ParticipantHEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp me toooo.. i’ve just install BP 1.0.2 with wpmu 2.71.. when upgrade to wpmu 2.8 the problem stays.. so i guess it’s the BP, installed with Nginx.
BTW in install instruction =>
Head back to the plugins admin panel. You will need to activate the BuddyPress plugin by clicking the Activate Site Wide or Activate link (both will work).
i don’t see Activate Site Wide.. is it using a plugin or something with wpmu? cos the Bp admin bar is only on the main blog.. not on other blog i have. is it normal ? or should i put the BP in the mu-plugins folder?

ParticipantSince nobody has figured this out yet, I was wondering, maybe there might be a different way. Such as when people signup, it automatically logs them in upon signup. Then while it automatically logs them in, it leads them to the change the password/profile page.
Although, it would be great to see buddypress profile section to actually have the option to change passwords, as right now we have no other choice but to edit the passwords in the wp profile area.
Hopefully, somebody will get this figured out, as it is a horrible idea to send out e-mails in this manner, because most of the time the e-mail could get lost or placed into the spam areas or the e-mails can become delayed and users never check for it, or they just don’t bother to login because they are concerned that they may not have the option to change their passwords so readily.
Time will tell. But, there needs to be a way to automatically log people in upon them creating their own account, then they can change their passwords as they like. Otherwise, if they don’t change their password right there upon auto login, they will still be e-mailed the password that the website created for them by default.

Keymaster_cK_ is a tried-and-true bbPress plugin developer; not sure if she’ll step into the confines of BuddyPress! But if you don’t ask, you’ll never know!
It’s probably possible to extend Nicola’s BP-TinyMCE plugin to add a filter for profile fields as well… you’d have to bug Nicola about that.
Here’s a post which explains how someone added a filter to profile fields:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=604
I might write a filter as well regarding this… we’ll see.

InactiveOh yes, that’s what I meant. In alpha 2, the group categories and tags were displayed on the right side of the main group page. So if one of members click on the main group nav tab, they would see the group categories and tags. The same was true for the main members page.
Thanks so much for considering that.

ParticipantNot sure what you mean. You want to display the user and group tags under the avatar? That’s always possible. Just because I remove that from the distribution doesn’t mean it can’t be done. What I think I will do is include the code for the tags/cats display for members and groups and then allow people to turn it on. It’ll be off by default.
I’ll include that in 1.1 which I have planned for release by next Friday 7/10.
July 4, 2009 at 11:03 pm #48539In reply to: Group Forum Admin Moderators
gen-superman
ParticipantWell, I realized that bppress included a way to use moderators for group forums, which is through admin settings for that specific group.
However, all that a moderator can do is in buddypress 1.0.2 is :
– Change group name (Bad idea to give to moderator)
– Change group news (semi ok, but still a possible security risk)
– Change group description (Bad idea)
– limited ability to delete only wired non-admin posts. (Very limited).
Also, it seems that all members can invite their own buddies into the group? Are you serious??? Only the admin or the moderator should be able to have that access.
Unbelievable.
Anyways, I hope that in future settings that we see admins and moderators have:
– ability to edit, move or remove group or wire posts
– ability to edit topics.
– Get rid of ability to rename group name for moderator
– Only admin and moderators should have access to invite members? This is a security risk for it to work otherwise!
An admin of a group’s purpose is the entire control over that group.
The moderators of that groups purpose is to maintain the integrity of the posts in the group/group forum area.
I would like to see the ability to ban, but then again, maybe the best idea is a “REPORT” button. Where if someone has posted something bad then they can simply just click “REPORT” and a MAIN Site Administrator will look it over and decide the appropriate measures of either deleting that post or punishing the member within that group themselves.
So, maybe Group Admins shouldn’t have the ability of punishment, but Main Site Admin’s should.

InactiveHi Burt,
Thank you for the explanation. I understand the logic.
Is there a way to restore the your list of group categories and group tags to display in the right column of the group section, and the same for the member page? The reason I ask is to help our members who are not as social network savvy and may not understand tags. If they just look on the right side, it may be easier for them to make the connection.
Thanks again.

ParticipantI can’t make assumptions about the parent/child relationship between categories. Specifically what use that relationship will be put to. Perhaps in some environment the parent category will not be displayed for selection and only the children will.
The relationship still exists even selecting just the child.
Actually I had intended to eliminate the profile tag display altogether. I just forgot to do it. I don’t want to force the display of something in a theme. It was a design decision to omit the category profile display and an omission to omit the tag display. Huh?

I’d prefer to leave the inclusion of those things up to theme authors and site admins.

InactiveHi Burt,
Uploaded and installed bpc 1.0 no problem. Couple of questions:
I see the parent and child category features. Great! Why the option to click both, versus just one or the other? Just curious. Explanation: parent category is ‘COUNTRIES’ and child is ‘United States.’ I can select ‘United States’ without selecting ‘COUNTRIES.’
After adding the two categories described here to a group, I clicked on the just categorized group. The group profile shows tags but no categories. An ommission or a decision?
Thanks for your hard work.

KeymasterHi Burt,
I’m assuming that you upgraded from 1.0 alpha 6.
Did you remove the “cookie” lines from wp-config.php before you activated the bbPress integration plugin in WPMU?
And re: #3, Are you sure don’t need to activate the BuddyPress Support plugin in bbPress?
I’ll give this a shot soon. Just wanted to get some detailed instructions before I do so!
July 4, 2009 at 5:49 pm #48532Burt Adsit
ParticipantThe alpha 2 issue you mention will go away. bpc 1.0 doesn’t use the bp directories anymore.
There is no upgrade path from alpha 2 to 1.0. It doesn’t use any of the same low level code or any of the tables. Complete re-write of the underlying core code using wp’s taxonomy tables instead.

ParticipantSame thing here. I was not able to create avatar and got the same message. However, once I skipped ‘avatar’ section and finished creating group I was able to create avatar from inside group admin.
I’m running latest versions of WPMU and BuddyPress. I have a lot of plugins for MU but I didn’t include any extra BP plugins.

Burt Adsit
ParticipantHello.
1) Doesn’t really matter what you were upgrading from. Just install bbpress 1.0.
2) I don’t trust the auto upgrade process so I manually upgrade
3) No buddypress enable plugin is needed. You do have to be running the right version of php though. See:
http://josephscott.org/archives/2009/03/conclusion-of-libxml2-issues-use-php-529-libxml2-273/
http://josephscott.org/archives/2009/03/wordpress-libxml2-episode-iv-a-new-plugin/
4) Don’t know what the issue is there
5) Yes this user switching is needed.
Don’t forget to enable pingbacks and xmlrpc. Also my test group forum didn’t work right away. I disabled the group’s forum component in the group admin page, saved the settings and then re-enabled it. Worked after that.

ParticipantLarsg, the buddypress plugin can be found in
wp-content>>plugins>>buddypress>>bp-forums>>bbpress-plugins
It needs to be moved but the location depends on your version of bbpress. Assuming you renamed bbpress to forums, you have 2 options:
forums>>my-plugins>>buddypress-enable.php
forums>>bb-plugins>>buddypress-enable.php
If 1 location doesn’t work & you try it in a 2nd location, remember to MOVE it. Having it in more than 1 location can make the wrong file be activated. Also, if you move it, you will have to reactivate it.

TheEasyButton
ParticipantI have a couple of questions because I still can’t get my discussion to activate in groups. Integration is fine, but that dang “you must configure forums” warning won’t go away no matter what combination of codes & plugins I use.
1. “Upgrade to bbpress 1.0”
Upgrade from what? I’ve never been able to get an RC version to work so I’m running alpha 6.
2. By upgrade, do you mean install the new version or should I find an upgrade button somewhere? (not seeing one on alpha 6)
3. Buddypress enable plugin (from buddpress>>bp-forums)
Where did you put this? In my-plugins or bb-plugins or nowhere?
4. “Go into bbpress admin and the wordpress integration settings. Fill out the forms properly”
Anytime I EVER EVER (haha) try to change stuff in there, it totally boots me out of all of the bbpress logins. No login name/pw will work.
That’s it for now but I’ll probably be back with more questions.

**Edit — #5 (told ya I’d be back) Did you put the “allow user switching” code at the bottom of the bb-config?
Thanks

InactiveHi –
Just upgraded to Firefox 3.5 this morning and yes, total panic city because I am using the Facebuddy theme. It is a total mess. Kind of like Harry Potter on the Night Bus squeezing through traffic in London. When I changed the themes to the default theme, it all went back to normal, and if I just tried IE 7.0 with the Facebuddy theme, all is as expected.
So I agree that this is a FF 3.5 issue. Not sure if I concur that Firefox will find and fix the bug immediately.

InactiveBurt,
I found a bug in the 1.0 alpha 2 and I was curious if the other members have experienced the same issue, and also if you resolved the issue with the 1.0 release.
Problem:
click on Members Directory
click on a letter for a member listing, say ‘M’ and it shows 21 listings. Okay, first 10 members are displayed. If you click on page 2, it goes to a weird submenu that leads to a blank page.
Here is the weird behaviour –
a new page loads with the following url and it’s blank:
http://www.xxyy.info/OurSocial/OurSocial/wp-load.php?upage=2
Resolution:
deactivate the bpc plugin, return to Members Directory
follow same member listing search for category ‘M’
click on page 2
all is fine – works as expected.
The links for pages 2 and 3 show the same links as listed above, but when you click on them, the main page stays the same,
http://www.xxyy.info/OurSocial/members
and only the Member Listing changes
Using:
wpmu 2.7.1 and the new bp 1.0.2
Also, an other question: if we upgrade automatically to bpc 1.0, what about the existing db created tables? Will they be in conflict or will the plugin just create a new table? I ask this because I read the ‘details’ of the upgrade and it says the new plugin creates one new table in the db
Thanks so much for your hard work.

ParticipantHi, “Turns out I forgot to enable the buddypress plugin in the BBPress admin area.”
What is this? Where can I do this? Is there a BBpress plugin that I have to install? Pls provide URLs.
I get the “There was an error posting that topic.” and wonder if this may be the reason (if I missed activating something in BBpress).

ParticipantThe Post Haste WP plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posthaste/ could replicate some of the functionality of P2, and it has the advantage of theme portability.
It took me weeks to find it, but I think it’s pretty great, especially for buddypress themes.
