I coded a recursive function that makes a new member friends with everyone once there account is authenticated. Is there an easier way of doing this?
Interesting fun fact:
This was what I was working on when i did this
http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/accidently-dropped-the-wp_users-table
I hate to ask, but will this plugin see daylight at all?
I’m not mad or anything but the first post in this thread was started about 2 months ago. I do start wondering if this plugin might never be aviable for download?
Hi
Is it possible to have two subdomain options or more for the user to make his/her blog on?
For example…
“something.bpress.com” and “something.bpblog.com”
If not maybe this can be done for future buddypress versions if possible?
I have seen this on other blog hosting service sites.
Thanks
There’s not too much you can do–unless you made a backup of your MySQL DB before messing with it in the backend.
You should always make a backup of your DB before you do anything to it that may result in changes to the data or the data schema. In fact, make a backup of your DB at the end of each coding day just incase the unexpected happens.
I assume that you did zero customizations to the data schema of your MySQL DB. If so, then just delete your current DB and then create a new one with the exact same username and password. But, if you do this, you’ll need to reinstall BuddyPress so that BP’s tables get created in the DB. You will also have to reenter any test data, but it should get you back up an running.
Also, I’m not sure why this is an issue:
I’ve customized so much code on the back end that reinstalling buddypress would be a huge pain.
Do you mean that you have hacked the core or WPMU and / or BuddyPress? If so, you should stop doing that as every time BuddyPress is updated, your hacks will be lost.
Instead of hacking the core BP files, either create your own custom plugin(s) to hold your code, or use the bp-custom.php file. That way, if and when you need to delete your install and start from scratch, you can easily do so. Just make sure you have back ups of any custom theme files, a listing of all your plugins, a copy of your bp-custom.php file, and a copy of your wp-config.php file assuming that you want to use the same MySQL DB.
I accidentally emptied the wp_users table. The site wasn’t live so I dropped or cleared out any of the other tables that had user information in them (i think anyways)
Now when new accounts are created weird things happen (data doesn’t get carried over after registration, new accounts contain different information from what the users have entered, the avatars you upload on registration don’t match to what you uploaded)
The site isn’t live, but I’ve customized so much code on the back end that reinstalling buddypress would be a huge pain. Is there anyway to fix this by resetting the way new accounts are created by manipulating the data in the tables?
Korhan-
Please report this as a bug in trac by creating a new ticket. You login to trac with the same credentials you use to log into this site.
The theme used on this site will not be made available. This question is asked about once a week. Here was the first thread that posed that question. See Andy’s response.
You can design your own theme to accomplish a similar effect–use Firefox with Firebug and see how Andy styled the theme.

Hi everyone!
I’m new and don’t know if this is available (have been searching the forums and open repositories tho) somewhere. I’m very interested in how buddypress has been implemented here at Buddypress.org. I can’t use the navigation bar from bpmember theme.
I’m in the process of editing bpmember to have it horizontal and just saw the beauty of buddypress.org’s impementation…
Thanks!

I read about some plug-in that would give you the ability to do this. Search for buddypress in the plug-ins repository.

Installed! Thanks!
How about stats from Events plug-in?
Hi Everyone,
Buddypress wouldn’t let me login with my old name so Catincoach is out and Catinw12 is in.
I posted this question a while back and didn’t get an answer. Is there a way to change the coding so that the link in the message/friend/group invitation email notification goes to http://www.xyxy.com/buddypress/”….”?redirect_to=http://xyxy.com/Buddypress/Buddypress/members/xyzmember/messages/
as opposed to this:
http://xyxy.com/Buddypress/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://xyxy.com/Buddypress/Buddypress/members/xyzmember/messages/
Ideally, I would like to change the coding in the email notification so that it begins as http://www.xyxy.com/…. but my efforts to find that have been futile.
Is this something for the WordPress MU forum?
Thanks,
Brian
Everytime I go to the BuddyPress component area and click “enabled” for bbpress forums, when I hit “Save Settings” the forum component returns to “disabled.”
Any clue why this happens? I thought I’d integrated forums on both sides, but the “forum” tab never appeared on my BuddyPress installation. Is there a step-by-step tutorial on full integration?
If you need to deactivate BuddyPress and the problem persist, delete wp-content/plugins/buddypress
but this is not the best way :S Even if BuddyPress hasn’t yet deactivation hook in use..
Hello
I just found out that there are language files, however I still wonder if I want to translate a hole buddypress site to another language will I then have to customize any images?
For example if I translate the default theme.
(I haven’t created a bp site yet but I am thinking of doing one)
Thank you for your time.
I have the latest versions of BP, and WPMU.
When I try to upload an avatar, I just get an empty box with an “x” in the corner, kind of like when you go to a website and the pic is missing (dead link). Any ideas? I have NO plugins at all, except buddypress.
You go to the themes admin and turn it off from there.
Does anyone know how much (server) memory is used by a single user visiting an integrated bbPress+BuddyPress installation (assuming standard installs and themes)? This could be a big impact on the ability of the system to scale to many users and lots of traffic.
I remember _ck_ (moderator on the bbPress forum) saying that it would be about 1MB, but that was before BackPress integrated a lot of the overlapping functionality.
How would one measure something like this?
Do you have other plugins installed that rely on BuddyPress being there? Maybe an early version of the BuddyBar, or something else? If there’s a plugin installed that requires a BuddyPress function to exist, and it doesn’t check appropriately for it being missing, you’ll experience this.
Just had a chance to see this Trace, glad you were able to get it resolved.
I use bp 1.0.3, wpmu 2.8.1 and bbpress 1.0.1.
I also use the facebook connect plugin and would like to be able to show facebook avatars in subdomain user blogs. I have this accomplished with forums pages, thanks to Reboot Now in this post:
http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/bp-avatars-and-nothing-else-in-bbpress-possible
I use prologue theme as default for subdomain user blogs. The avatar issue is important as you can see here, this user signed up through fb connect, but has wavatar and not his fb avatar. http://dimassimotalento.fenerbook.com
There is no problem when user is registered the normal way, their avatars are ok in subdomain user blogs.
This problem was solved in forums like this:
function _get_avatar( $id ) {
$avatar_file = bb_get_usermeta( get_post_author_id(), ‘bp_core_avatar_v1’ );
$url = BB_PATH . $avatar_file;
if ( strlen( $avatar_file ) ) {
return ‘<img src=”‘ . attribute_escape( $url ) . ‘” alt=”” class=”avatar photo” width=”50″ height=”50″ />’;
} else {
$default_grav = ‘wavatar’;
$user_email = bb_get_user_email( $id );
$gravatar = ‘http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/’ . md5( $user_email ) . ‘?d=’ . $default_grav . ‘&s=50’;
return ‘<img src=”‘ . attribute_escape( $gravatar ) . ‘” alt=”” class=”avatar photo” width=”50″ height=”50″ />’;
}
return;
}
and by using this:
<?php echo _get_avatar( get_post_author_id() ); ?>
Can anyone help me to show avatars of fb users in subdomain blogs?
How do you make it so that the buddypress home theme would not be visible to a user other than admin, I had some one turn it on and white screen the site
I’m using More Privacy Options to allow users to fine-tune the privacy settings on their blogs. It works by creating three new privacy settings and assigning them to values -1, -2, -3 in wp_blogs ‘public’. BuddyPress only puts a new blog post in the activity streams if the privacy value is an integer, which works fine if you’re only dealing with WPMU’s default values of 1 for public and 0 for private, but having the additional values from More Privacy Options screws things up.
I changed a line in /bp-blogs/bp-blogs-classes.php to keep this from happening. In the function is_hidden(), replace
$wpdb->prepare( "SELECT DISTINCT public FROM {$wpdb->base_prefix}blogs WHERE blog_id = %d", $blog_id ) ) )
with
if ( $wpdb->get_var( $wpdb->prepare( "SELECT DISTINCT public FROM {$wpdb->base_prefix}blogs WHERE blog_id = %d", $blog_id ) ) < 1 )
In other words, instead of ignoring blog entries with a non-integer privacy value, ignore all blog entries whose privacy value is less than 1.
Because this problem arises from a plugin conflict, I’m not sure if it qualifies as patch-worthy in BP trunk. But I hope it will be useful to someone out there.

Just realised that it may not be a good idea using the array_shifts at the end, in case the array only contains one element. C’est la vie!
Oops… trunk of course! it’s been a long day… got it working the old fashioned way
The other point I was making though is that this is linked off the main installation instructions:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/.
The reason I probably didn’t even look at the URL is because of that. I’m sure lots of people will do the same, and if they are new to buddypress they won’t be aware of the usual way of installing it and either post questions here or maybe even give up!
