I’m in a process of writing my own plugins for BuddyPress. But I faced with the problem – I don’t understand how to remove filters (while I do know how to add them). What I mean:
I want to change function bp_get_blog_description(), which has this code inside:
return apply_filters( 'bp_get_blog_description', $blogs_template->blog['description'] );As I understood I need to remove this filter (to add then my own with my extra info).
remove_filter either don’t work or I don’t understand how to use it.
What could you advice me?
Any help would be appreciated. I can just catch the idea if there is no clear solution.
Oh, BP1.0 and WPMU 2.7.1 (unuseful info, I know).
Topic: Blogs
Just a simple question if I may. Can you install Buddypress without allowing users to create blogs?
wondered if it was possible at all as I do not need this feature.
Apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered already, have searched but cannot find an answer.
All the best
Boobies (i was drunk when I chose this UN)
I have just installed WPMU 2.7.1 + Buddypress 1.0 + bbpress 1.0 rc1
I followed each instruction given in the installation guide and almost everything is working apart from 2.
When anyone posts in forums through the group, the post always reflects the user which was added as keymaster in the buddypress forums setup instead of the actual user who posting.
But if the post is done directly into the forums but not through the buddypress groups it does reflects the actual member posting.
Also the group owners cannot delete the posts or threads done in their groups.
I’m having issues with group and individual avatar images; they result in broken image links. I have worked through the other FAQs / fixes to no avail.
Symptom:
Uploading and cropping avatars appears to go fine – it even displays the proper thumbnail for each.
The images themselves do not appear. Also, curiously, we get URLs like:
In that case, in fact, I look at that directory and the other images are there, but *not* the jpg (ie, owen3.png)
libjpeg is installed, but is it possible something somewhere isn’t finding it?
So far, have investigated:
* Changing directory permissions for blogs.dir (recursively) to 777. It’s set to our user:group that Apache, etc., uses and everything else is fine.
* safe_mode is OFF
* readfile function is NOT disabled
* Standard .htaccess
* Gd/libpng/libjpeg all seem to be fine.
* Currently on BuddyPress 1.0 (final, not RC – just upgraded from RC1)
* MU 2.7.1
* FreeBSD
I will say, the jpegs seem to be what are missing. libjpeg does itself seem to be working as we can upload and crop jpegs elsewhere.
I do NOT get the permissions error message – randomly got it once but otherwise just get a message saying the image was successfully updated (eg, when I change a group avatar)
I haven’t yet tried creating an avatar from scratch to see if that goes better.
Hi All!
We currently run a magazine-style web site using Joomla which contains many thousands of unique articles, and we are considering porting the content over to BuddyPress.
I have a question for you BuddyPress Experts!
Question: I understand that BP allows each user to have their own blog, and access social networking features between profiles. However, we want the site to have a custom home page with only our own articles, as well as main sub-sections that only show our articles. The social networking features of BP would more be shown in a separate community area of the larger site as a whole. Is this easily done? Can we have a premium theme home page (such as from the Revolution themes), where we control what story appears where (and can assign a thumbnail to each). I just wouldn’t want to use BP if it is difficult for us to keep our own original content front and center.
If you have any suggestions on how to run a magazine-style web site with BP, please speak up! Example URLs of existing sites would be great too.
Thank you!
I’m trying BuddyPress with my college classes this summer. Because of this, it’s important that I be able to identify student work with their real name and not just a username (I don’t want to have to figure out that blazer20 is John Smith; I just want to see John Smith on his posts).
I’ve got 48 students in the site, and each of them created a profile during signup that included the standard name field. So, when I use the Members list, I see real names and a link to the profile, but when I look at comments made by the students, I get only their usernames–except for 4 students.
These 4 students each show their real name in comments, and each name links back to the profile. And when I went into the user listing in the admin backend, their real names show up in the name column instead of the username. When I click on a student’s name to edit the user info, these 4 students each have extra user info filled in: first name, last name, nickname, display name, and the web site field is filled in with a link to their profile. In talking with these 4 students, none of them can identify any extra steps they took to provide information on the site: they created an account, accessed a blog post, and added a comment–the same thing all the students have done.
Whatever it is that happened with these students needs to happen with the other 44 so that I have full names for all of them without me having to manually edit each of their user pages. I have blog creation turned off, so none of these students has a way to access the backend user page and enter the info themselves.
Any ideas on how/why these students ended up with more information than the others?
I installed buddy press newly using the simpleScripts to the following site:
http://www.dr-lokku.com/doclock
When I click on the Register button or Signup button it takes me to
http://www.dr-lokku.com/doclock/register
but alas !! I get 404 page not found error
