No, not to begin with. You could still use it to post to your blog within a BuddyPress install however.
Yes, deep integration, then you should just be able to use the existing nonce that is generated by WordPress.
You get what you pay for I guess. Although, in the case of BuddyPress… at a cost of $0.00… you get a whole lot more than you pay for.
Besides, if they waited until the system had absolutely everything… it would never be released. It was only released about a month ago. And now that there is an official 1.0 version out, I predict that developers will be flocking to it and developing lots of great third party plugins. It’s already happening. Consider that a couple of motivated developers have already freely donated their time to create pretty decent (if basic at the moment) events and photo gallery plugins!!!!! Pretty awesome if you ask me.
As for document management… there are a number of standard WordPress plugins that will handle that for you. Of course, it won’t be integrated into the groups, activity feeds, etc… it would just be a WordPress page with downloads on it… but one of those plugins might serve as a stop-gap for you for now.
If you really want/need free social networking software that is more feature complete now… right now… try Elgg. But it doesn’t have nearly the same amount of developer interest, buzz and support… it’s no where near as user-friendly… and creating a theme that does anything more than change a few background colors and images is next to impossible. I did a lot of research into these two options and BuddyPress… even with the limits of it’s current 1.0 feature set… was the hands down winner. No contest.’
Finally, you say you don’t care if something if free or paid for… you only care about the final product. Well, if that’s the case, there are literally scores of commercial web applications out there right now that do similar things… socially networked Wiki’s, Intranets, etc… but most of them are very expensive. Look at SocialText, Telligent, Confluence, ClearSpace, MindTouch, Thought Farmer… and on and on. Tons of them. Some are more Wiki-like with some social stuff added and some are more Facebook like with some Wiki stuff added… but there is certainly no shortage of commercial options out there.
Burt, I’m not seeing bbpress post show up in sitewide activity, although everything else seems to be working fine. Could you point me to where you set the hook to stuff topic and post creation into activity so that I could try to run down the problem? Thanks.
I hope Andy can extend or modify the plugin and build it to the core saves time !
What about help from this guru @ Dallasclark

I’m having the same issue regarding the buddypress welcome widget.
I have buddypress working 100% on server_1 and I moved it to server_2.
I used gzip through SSH to compress the html directory containing the entire WordPress Mu and Buddypress installation. Then I used scp through SSH to transfer the tarball to server_2 and then extracted it.
I exported the MySQL database from server_1, and opened it in Notepad++. I did a search and replace for the olddomain.com changing it to the newdomain.com. I also search and replaced the directory path from /usr/local/apache/htdocs to /var/www/html. Then I imported the database to server_2 in a table with the same name as the old server, then edited the wp-config.php to use the new database.
In theory all this should work, but the only thing that isn’t is the text on the welcome widget, I can change it etc but it only displays the first character. Other widgets save and work fine, it’s seems to be just an issue with this one. I also haven’t altered any of the core files. I’ve also tried removing commas, etc in the MySQL for the welcome widget content portion before importing it.
I’m going to tinker with it further, such as disabling all widgets/plugins before moving the database to the new server, then enabling them. I know WordPress suggests this when migrating to a new server, although I have never needed to before. I’m using WordPress Mu 2.7.1 and Buddypress 1.0.
Thanks for any ideas.
In my buddypress,I have several blogs use same theme,in this theme I use 3 different template to create 3 different customizing pages, now ,I want to turn those 3 pages to default page, they will exist when new blog using this theme, just like page “about” exsits in every blog.
how can I do that ?
Thanks
I am restarting this thread because the other one has disappeared from the forum (akismet issue?). To recap, I am trying to put a call to the WP logout function in bbPress (WMPU 2.7.1, BP 1.0, BBP 1.0 RC1).
I have verified that the nonce is what I am missing. It seems that WPMU won’t accept the logout unless the URL includes the correct nonce value.
I have verified this by hardcoding the nonce (which only works once of course). bb_create_nonce() generates a different value, so that doesn’t work.
So how does this BuddyPress.org forum generate the correct nonce value? Is Andy using deep integration on this site in order to call wp_create_nonce()?
What does this mean for buddypress? Anything? Will it work with buddypress?

I’m surprised to still see things like the articles of the BP blog spilling over the right sidebar
If you are using a custom theme, that may be the reason. If you are using the default BP theme, then please start a new thread so that we may investigate.
However, the display issue that you’re describing does not equate to BP being “way too buggy.”
the fact there still isn’t a funding system for the development of plugins and features. The idea of funding is like taboo or something
BuddyPress is an open source project. As such, you are free to provide financial assistance to any plugin developer who is willing to take it. In fact, some developers have a “Please Donate” badge on their websites.
Having this website facilitate such donations is beyond scope of the project. It would create a management nightmare as tax code could potentially require the reporting of such distributed fees and the paying of taxes on collected fees. This is a volunteer run site. Any distraction away from supporting BP would lessen the quality of our users’ support resolution.
What is available lets the individual bloggers ( who are part of a buddypress-wmu site) choose individual themes for their respective blogs or for their admin areas.
However, if they want to see their buddypress site from a set of exclusive-buddypress themes there seems no way they can do that or the site super admin can allow them to do that.
I read docs as much as I could and searched as much as I can but apparently there seems to be no solution unless someone provides some way around.
The beauty of opensource is as long as you give credit where it’s due, you’re free to distribute anything that’s part of the GPL, which WordPress and BuddyPress are.
Unless Andy chimes in and feels otherwise, I don’t see the harm in it.
dude i already made it.
all i want to know is – is it okay to use it and share it for free ?
If you want it, at least something similar, there’re job groups here and bp demo site. BuddyDress also makes themes for buddypress. FYI.
okay… i made the theme for buddypress and bbpress.
i pulled all the css and worked it around.
some parts i kept different. now can i release it for all..
or can i use it on my site?
A visitor to my site can have a blog and choose any blog theme she/he wants.
However if they want to choose a theme for the home, that is the default buddypress home page, how can they choose one ?
There seems to be no option for the member to have a theme of choice for the buddypress page and use only the one fixed by the site. Please provide some clue / link to any such documentation.
I have resolved this issue. The members search did not work because members are not included in the search unless they have at least one piece of profile info filled out.
I had an issue with the “Edit Profile” page (https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2991) which had this knock on effect tot he member search.
Thanks for your reply!
That’s not a bad idea. As you can probably tell, all I did for this was change the layout and then work back in the default member theme’s css. I could just copy all of their css and do the same thing.

As Nicola states, we need more information. Please look at this post:

1. How many times have you reinstalled WPMU + BuddyPress?
– once (one reinstallation)
2. Did you use the same MySQL DB each time or did you start with a brand new, fresh DB?
-yes the same, but cleared out before reinstallation
3. You mention in point 2 of your most recent post that you’re basically making a custom theme. You changed the code in leave-group-confirm.php. In my mind, changing any code in the default themes means you’re making a custom theme.
– by deleting this <?php bp_group_leave_confirm_link() ?> I only was experimenting what the cause to these errors might be. (deleted part of the code, tested what would happen and then put the deleted part back…)
I am using the default themes you mentioned. I read that the most of these errors have something to do with custom themes, so I’m not using my own theme until these errors/problems are fixed.
My web host said DB is ok, working fine and the error must be in the BP code that generates the pages… In my 2nd post I said “He also said that some variable that has that table’s name is missing… Or something like that.”
That was when I was having forum problems (couldn’t post a new post or reply) and before the reinstallation.
Like I mentioned before, I’m not very familiar with php and MySQL but know some.
So what can I do to help to resolve these problems/errors? This is on the other hand quite annoying, but at the same time I find it fascinating
Just found this link in another thread, and figured it needed it’s own thread.

Finally photo galleries for buddypress!
All I can report at this time is it installed and works exactly as advertised. I can’t wait to see the new features that I’m sure will be added.
I searched all over the forums and found nothing on this topic. I recently downloaded BuddyPress and everything was working fine regarding user registration, etc. until it cam to user created blogs. When a user creates a blog he / she is able to access the blog homepage, but when the user tries to either add a post or access the blog’s dashboard the user is redirected to a WP login screen, but the username / password combo that works on the site home page simply doesn’t work.
The login page simply reloads with the two login fields blank. Please help, I’m going to have to disable blogs for the time being as they are essentially useless due to this bug.
nice tweaking there. good job on the members page
if someone make the theme and distribute it, will it be legal. i mean does the theme have any copyrights?
i could pull all the css files in this theme and then work my way back to the original. is it okay to copy the same css.
