I cannot figure this one out. The buddypress admin bar is in the middle of my page in my old theme. Ideas as to why?
Okay thanks. What I did last time i created a theme was pretty much following these instructions: http://www.jestro.com/web-design/convert-xhtml-css-to-wordpress/
So the theme I create for buddypress has to have the same kind of structure with a header, content, footer ect. And then eventually after i’ve structured it like that I can implement buddypress tags/loops into the layout and style with CSS.
probably a simple oversight, but good catch! the old site had one.

BuddyPress.org has no favicon icon for the main website. It is a very good idea to put one up.
Never mind. I just named it bb-force-login.php and put it in the bb-plugins directory. Works like a charm!
Group Discussion Board:
I would like to see the possibility to be able to reply directly to a forum-post, so that:
1)
everybody understand to which forum-post my post refers to.
2)
the person I am replying to will receive an e-mail which notifies him that I have posted a feedback to his entry
like threaded Forum and threaded Comment-system ( http://www.toni.org ).
Currently, it is very hard to find my own forum-posts and replies to my post within BuddyPress. You agree ?
Many thanks,
Erich
All blogs used to be using /themes/fourWPTPv2 (another them outside of buddypress)
The rest is correct!
The update buddypress link in plugins section in hinting me. Can I upgrade just by hitting that link?
Worked fine for me. You’ll still need to move the themse folders to the proper places, activate the new home theme, and go into the BuddyPress > General Settings and Save the member theme. Or at least, I did.
Hi Jeff, DJPaul,
many thanks for your feedback !
So can I get this working also in BuddyPress ?
Thanks again,
Erich
You are using the new bp home theme for *all* blogs?
All blogs are using /themes/bphome
All blogs used to be using /themes/buddypress-home
You have manually gone in to each blog’s Appearance > Theme menu and selected the bp home theme. Now the nav links return 404 on anything other than blog id 1.
Correct?
dear jeff, u r my only saviour
i have only dummy data.
i have not launched my site yet. so no problem there.
but i am not sure ftp will override the wpmu moorings.
btw, as i mentioned in a note above, ie6 only displays 800px screens.
is there a way to trick firefox or chrome into behaving like that?
wishful thinking?
This is what i have in my main blog theme that works nicely.. in the wordpress header..
http://buddypress.pastebin.com/m63552cf1
I just want to do the same thing on the buddy press side of things..
the above code doesnt work on the buddy press side.
I have been trying things like..
<?php echo bp_the_site_member_name(); ?>
The idea is to just alow for a quick create group button that takes dynamically adds the users username based on this url..
http://spotskenya.com/spotters/!!!!!username!!!!!/spots/create/
does that make sense??
Post the code for wt_get_user_name() here and leave a link http://buddypress.pastebin.com/
Hi Jeff,
I once designed a theme for wordpress yes. Been a while thou. I know CSS pretty well.
Anyways, ill probably figure it out once ive played around with the skeleton theme for a week or two. I guess its like designing a wordpress theme just that now you have buddypress tags to play with as well.
Do you know why the 3 sections Members, Groups and Blogs looks like they arnt connected to any css file in the skeleton theme?
On my site I only allow one theme, the same as the home page theme to keep things seamless. When I upgraded my beta site to buddypress, all the existing blogs are still on the old theme (problem #1). When I log in as one of my test users, or a new user, then manually change them to the default buddypress theme, none of the links (Blog, Members, Groups, Blogs) work on their home page (BIG problem #2). I get: “Sorry, that page was not found, The page you were looking for was not found”
Can someone shed some light on either problem for me? Any easy way to fix #1 or why #2 is behaving this way.
I am running WPMU 2.7.1 and BP 1.0
FYI, all the links on the home page work fine.
Hi All,
I am trialling WordPress MU / BuddyPress locally via WAMP but I cannot seem to get any emails – I was recieving emails from my “normal” WordPress install. Any ideas where I can check the settings for SMTP Server etc?!
Many Thanks
Tony

Have you worked much with CSS before? Have you designed a custom WordPress theme before?
If not, here are some resources I recommend for starters:
- First, if you’re not using the Firefox browser, do so. Also, install the FireBug Add-on.
- Second, the WordPress Codex is a great resource for theme designers
- Finally, BuddyPress themes are unique themes in the WP family. Andy has written a great BuddyPress Codex on BP theme loops
Ah, that could be causing an issue. Do you have a FTP client? If so, you should be able to delete any file and folder in any of your domains.
BEfore deleting and reinstalling, just make sure you’ve backed up any data that you want to save and any custom theme changes. Also, make a note of which plugins you’re using just in case you accidentally delete them out of the wp-content folder.
Just been playing with BuddyPress and a) WOW and b) how do you change the main image use in the Theme? is it a case of simply overwriting the image that is in the Theme folder or can it be changed via an admin screen?
I think I must have another clean install.
The only problem is WPMU folders are undeletable from c-panel.
Several of them with the wp-content already exist
@Squashroby & @Tyviris-
It appears that both of you are using WordPress single user version. BuddyPress must be used with WordPress Multi-User version (WPMU).
You can download it here: https://mu.wordpress.org/download/
Start over from scratch. First, delete all the files (except any custom themes you may have created or downloaded). Create a new MySQL database. Them go though the install process again:
- Install WPMU — the multi-user version! Follow these instructions
- Next, install BuddyPress following these instructions

Hum? That is strange since that directly addresses the admin bar styling. What browser are you using? Is it FireFox?
When go into FIreFox and make those changes, I see your site’s admin bar set to 800 px. Did you use the !important declaration?
