Hi everyone, and congratz to you Andy with versjon 1.0 of Buddypress. I have been watching the Buddypress developement since about November, 2008, and I must say I really do love everything you have created!
Now, I actually have two small questions about the Recent Blog Posts widget witch is showing the latest blogposts all across the network. Number 1 could be easy I guess, but I would like a little “how-to-guide” if anyone of you guys can help me.
1: How can I limit the excerpt in the widget, to only show a sprecified number of charachters,? Note.: Not words, but charachters.?
2: Is there anything I can do to exclude the main blog from this widget?
That’s it! Any help on my 2 small questions would be appriciated.!
I figured out that there is TEMPLATEPATH available. However when i use TEMPLATEPATH it refers to the absolute path rather than to the relative path on my Server?! Is there anybody who could help me with this?
echo '<a href="' . $bp->root_domain . '"><img id="admin-bar-logo" src="' . apply_filters( 'bp_admin_bar_logo_src', TEMPLATEPATH . '/images/admin_bar_logo.gif' ) . '" alt="' . apply_filters( 'bp_admin_bar_logo_alt_text', __( 'BuddyPress', 'buddypress' ) ) . '" /></a>';
WOOOOOOOOOOT!
This is the only time I think all caps should be encouraged!
I’m marking this as resolved since it sounds like you figured it out. Feel free to unmark it if it’s not.
<marquee> Woot!!…. woot <marquee>
This is no longer an issue with the BuddyPress 1.0 Release, however the bug remains in WPMU.

WOOOOOOOT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
Bumping this because I’m curious about the same thing DJPaul mentioned. The need to create a random account for bbPress is fine, but it’s pointless having it listed with the BuddyPress members when it’s not really one.
Any suggestions?
Hi,
I was using buddypress rc1 and those days item_id was id of blog on which message was posted when component_action was new_blog_post. After upgrading to rc2 it is something else – like auto incrementing… How can i return to saving blog id?
Or – is there another way to get out of database latest posts with their url and tags? i was using sth like:
$result = mysql_query(\"
SELECT primary_link,name,date_recorded
FROM
wp_bp_activity_sitewide
INNER JOIN
$posts_table
ON $posts_table.post_date=wp_bp_activity_sitewide.date_recorded
INNER JOIN
$term_relationships_table
ON $posts_table.ID=$term_relationships_table.object_id
INNER JOIN
$term_taxonomy_table
ON $term_relationships_table.term_taxonomy_id=$term_taxonomy_table.term_taxonomy_id
INNER JOIN
$terms_table
ON
$term_taxonomy_table.term_id=$terms_table.term_id
WHERE
date_recorded
\'$time\'
AND component_action=\'new_blog_post\'
AND post_type=\'post\'
AND taxonomy=\'post_tag\'
ORDER BY date_recorded
\");
jotem, look for references to ‘root component’. That’s what you are describing.
So I posted the same support topic over at wpmudev.org and they advised me to ask you about this issue, whereby Andrew stated:
“Sounds like they’ve figured out how to bypass a step or two in the signup routine.
Probably best to mention this on the buddypress forums so they can look into it.
Thanks,
Andrew”
Does this help?
Are user-to-user messages working? I just sent several on this site, and none of the messages are showing up in my \’sent messages\’ box.
I am able to successfully send PMs on my own buddypress install.
