I followed it line by line, Andy,

bu there is no way I can see the buddypress theme.

But buddyptress is shown as a plugin activated.

The funny thing is pages other than the main page do show the buddypress theme.

Please see the difference between the following twi inks.

Im thinking about setting up a website like youtube/flickr but specifically for gig and concert pictures.

People will be able to upload pictures of gigs theyve been to and other users who also attended the gig will be able to log on and search for the gig and download pictures of the event if ones uploaded for it. There will be a rating system etc and people will be able to join groups for the bands etc

Reason being that i go to alot of gigs and concerts and sometimes my picture quality is not so good or my battery runs out on my digital camera or my mobile phone etc and it would be good to get pictures of the gig from different areas of the venue or closer to the stage or just have memories of the gig.

Each user will have their own profile and be able to comment on other peoples pictures etc

Is this something which will be possible with buddypress?

This is just the basic concept, what do you reckon?

    Thanks for the terrific instructions!

My only question is after WPMU 2.7.1, BuddyPress RC-2 and BBpress Alpha 6 is installed and functional, is how to include the Forum button on the home and member templates or did not follow the instructions properly?

    Thanks Again

I’ve just checked and replying to messages works fine on the default themes. I’ll take a look what the problem is on buddypress.org – but it’s most likely because I forgot to mention something that needs to be upgraded.

Before you report bugs, always check to see if it broken using the default themes. Most of the time you’ll find those bugs are because you haven’t updated your old theme properly.

Be sure to put your bp-custom.php in /plugins/ and not the /buddypress/ directory so it is not overwritten on upgrades. You’ll need to add a comment header and activate it in RC-2.

Phluxor: disabling the admin bar is easy, add this to your bp-custom.php or your wp-config.php:

    define( 'BP_DISABLE_ADMIN_BAR', true );

I installed WPMU 2.7.1 and then BP 1.0 RC-2, but nothing happens.

Neither ‘themes’ no ‘appearance’ shows BP RC2 is installed.

Further, plugins show “You do not appear to have any plugins available at this time”.

It obviously is not as easy as you have mentioned.

here’s the solution in case you missed it. and for all others with the same issue.

I had the same issue and this time around my BP core hacks are really at a minimum (but I still had to hack ! ). Mostly my hacks are to do with disabling some includes (like the admin bar – I wish there was just a switch which isn’t too hard to do).

As Jeff says, I used bp-custom.php for my custom functionality but that only goes so far… You OK with that approach as long as the core BP functions uses a filter or action. If that’s not the case, then your options are gone. What I ended up doing in a couple of cases, was just copy the core BP function into my bp-custom.php file, rename it and change the functionality then call that one instead of the original from my template. Again, this only works if you’re going to change the template functions only. If you need to dig deeper then I have no grand ideas left…

    Maxaud-

Yeah, hacking core files is never a good idea. That is why there’s a slick, simple solution!

Place all your custom code in a file called bp-custom.php. It should be located in /wp-content/plugins/ not in the BuddyPress directory. This file will load before the BuddyPress components load.

The file has to be named bp-custom.php and placed where I indicated.

Now, when you update BuddyPress, since your custom code exists outside of the BuddyPress directory, you’ll be fine.

I’m in the process of updating http://www.WannaNetwork.com.

When creating WannaNetwork.com we had to make some changes to the core of BuddyPress for it to functon how we wanted it to.

I know php but I cannot say that I’m proficient at it.

Would would be the best way to redefine or modify buddypress function as to preserve them when updating BuddyPress so I’m not having to go in and change BuddyPress core files every time there is an update made?

    Thanks in advance.

agree with @belogical. Sometimes it’s user error or there’s an easy fix.

Actually, it’s that page itself because I can’t change emails from their either. Something with the Settings page with BuddyPress. I can change these items just fine through either bbPress’s admin or WP admin. And nothing else in the profile seems broken. The Settings page loads fine, but clicking Save Changes leads to a 404 (so /general doesn’t seem to exist, I guess?)

Anyhoo, running 1.0 RC 2 and bbPress is 1.0 alpha.

I always like to verify it’s an issue 1st in the forums, then report it to the trac myself.

I’m not sure if I’m using it correctly or not. But type the problem, attach file if any, and submit. right? :)

    #43665

Trac is intimidating to most people, including me somedays. I don’t think it’s not knowing they have the ability, I think it’s just not knowing how to use the trac system.

I wish I could contribute, but I got no skills to code. ;)

btw, I don’t see active forum users reporting problems/bugs on the trac. Perhaps they don’t know they can simply do it with the same account.

    #43660

Andy’s got a few bug fixes he’s working on at the moment. Keep reporting them as you come across them but also know that he’s on top of them. BP.org was actually down completely yesterday for about 20 minutes, so we’re lucky he brought it back up in its current form. :)

    Hi all,

My uni degree project http://spotskenya.com is comming on quite well but there is one fatal thing that i really need some help with.

The main thing of my project is these spots which are places and on buddy press are grouos but renamed.

What I need to do is integrate google maps so that when people create a group they can a geotag the exact location of the group or in my case a spot. Basically show where the group is on a Google Map

    1) I have a course mate that has made the Google Maps part HERE

    http://veer.me.uk/rough/spotskenya

    – this simply gets the lat and lng from a marker and puts it into two fields. (these fields are visible on the protype page but can just be hidden.) ALSO note the other fields are just for show…

    – then uppon submit it needs to ad this to the databse and preferably in the groups table.

    – then through xml we will display the map on the group page with only that location (basically just that spot on a gmap)

    2) So what i need help and guidence with is how to patch or HOOK this into the buddypress groups componant.

    – how can i get the JS in the header only for this groups page. I know that it could just sit in the header all the time but i need to be optimum with the sizes as it needs to run on slow connections. This is not a major though.

    – how can i get the div which displays the gmap on the create group page?

    – how can i get the lat and lng saved in the database

    – how can i then display the gmap with the marker on the NON ADMIN side eg just on the main group page

    – would it be posible to also re edit the marker in the admin.

    POSSIBLE SOLLUTIONS

    Nicolas Extra Group Fields plugin.

Creating a custom componant / plugin thingy

Editing the core code (not recomended i know)

I SADLY JUST DONT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT ALL THE CODE AND HOOKS AND CUSTOM COMPONANTs and Meta tags ETC TO DO THIS

That is why I am asking for help here.

All the google maps side of things is DONE its just a matter of hooking it in and displaying the geo tagged map. I know that make is sound simple but i really don’t have the expertese for this.

Burtadsit and NicolaGreco and others have said its possible and hopefully if we get it working then others can use it and i think it will help..

Please do let me know if i need to explain myself a bit better.

    I’ve posted this last night.

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2352

rc2 has so many bugs that disable basic features. Bug fix should be released asap.

Since other users are facing this, I’ve made this ticket as critical.
