I had the profile pages showing up and everything was working; for those of you who were helping me with my slow bp issue know this (ndcom.com). This morning I was clicking around and now the member profiles can’t be viewed I receive this:
You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.
Please download the Default BuddyPress Theme and install it in /wp-content/bp-themes/
So I installed the bp theme in the wp-content/bp-themes/ and still doens’t work. I can see blog and home and individual blogs of members, but I can’t access members, member profile, groups, blogs for I receive that error message above?
What could be wrong?
Thanks for the advice, I will go ahead and get a dedicated server hosting plan.
Hi,
i have installed bp with mu and wanna now change bp in german language. In mu german languages works fine but when i download the german files from http://codex.buddypress.org/translations/deutsch/ and upload it in wp-content/mu-plugins/db-languages/ all of my widgets are away from my homepage like at the starting point but the translation is working. if i delete the translation-mo files all runs well.
Have anybody a idea or suggestion?
thx for your help,
illya
The theme and the profile back end don’t support this right now but there is a mod you can try.
Change line 11 which reads:
<?php if ( bp_field_has_data()) : ?>
To read:
<?php if ( bp_field_has_data() && bp_field_has_public_data()) : ?>
In /bp-themes/buddypress-member/profile/profile-loop.php
Then you will manually have to use phpmyadmin and go into the table bp_xprofile_fields and change all the profile field records that are parent fields and have \’0\’ in the column \’is_public\’ to \’1\’ for the fields you want to show on the profile and \’0\’ for the fields you don\’t want to show.
Parent fields are the ones that have a \’0\’ in the \’parent_id\’ column.
i have successfully installed wpmu/buddypress/bbpress. and they all have been sucessfully share cookies.
my buddypress is rc1
ok. i find it !!
wpmu admin -> group -> edit -> group settiongs.
I am also getting this.
I am hosted with 1and1, WPMU 2.7 and BuddyPress RC1
WPMU was working fine until I uploaded the BP files, then it started.
Trying to isolate it something odd happened when I took bp_groups.php out of the picture, then it began to function a little bit, the profile admin bar was appearing on the site, but any time I attempted to go anywhere on it it would return to the 500 Internal Server Error. I cannot even go to the wp-admin without getting the error. If I remove BP from the mu-plugin directory, it returns to normal again.
All files are chmodded to 755. I tried 777 just to see if it changed anything, which it did not.
So I am stumped at this point, there is clearly something in BP that my hosting does not agree with as WPMU works just fine otherwise.
Any ideas? Other things to look at to isolate the problem? Database weirdness? I will keep working on this

it’s all about consolidation and managment. i think WP not only a blogware but also a CMS. so it will forge alot of MODULES just like Drupal does.BuddyPress is one of them. if all modules put it’s theme a diffrent folder, it’s not an error, just somewhat chaos for developers/site admin.
i DO know buddypress user theme cannot used by WP blog.
Also try using the object caching support:
Improving Performance
WordPress MU itself is not designed to run on a shared server, so you should really avoid that if you can.
Personally i think it is your shared host; WPMU+BP needs pretty healthy servers to run optimally. I’m quite obsest with speed and testing. The WPMU+BP sites need at leats 512MB ram and CPU resources so any servers with avg load >3 it will just die. I’d say on shared hosting the HDD is being battered and trying to run BP MySQL queries on a shared host for it will run out of memory and start using the already busy HDD to store temp tables and data. Even using Super Cache you are reading and writing from an overworked HDD.
I’m not saying it is your shared host but i think its likely.
But i would still test it. Move your site to one side. Install the latest stable WPMU + BP and see what happens. If its still sluggish on those then its your host.
In my experience you need at least 512Mb free RAM, CPU load averages <3, good HDD health, basic apache (unnecessary modules removed), Super Cache, WP_Cache and e-Accelerator or x-cache if you can compile it into apache.
I tried to get nginx setup as a reserve proxy but had issues, that would be the ultimate.
Take a look at the latest trunk
https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk
They have re-organised the themes into a bp-themes folder. Maybe in the future you could drop any member theme in there and manage it through the admin to select what theme you want to use.
At the moment its just more logical.
i think wpmu should judge the theme type before show in the admin interface.
if it’s for buddypress then just skip it. so we can put any member theme in the wpmu theme folder.
Did you have a working install of wpmu before deciding to install Buddypress? If so, how were those blogs and user accounts made – via the usual way? No import from another site or use of some sort of plugin?
Hey,
This may sound a bit complicated but I have quite simple intentions for it!
Lets say I have a catchall email address for a domain. Is it possible to query all of the posts in that email account using imap (or something like that) and put the emails into the messages section of the buddypress powered site.
This way, if a user who has an account at my site (schoeben.com) had a username like spencer, then, any email that was sent to spencer@schoeben.com would end up in the catchall account but it would still be marked as adressed to spencer@schoeben.com.
Then, could you somehow query the catchall account and find any emails that are addressed to (*username*)@schoeben.com and put those messages in with the rest of the internal buddypress messages for (*username*).
Anyway, just looking to be pointed in the right direction.

I have had problems installing this on WPMU 2.7 … The buddypress files go in mu-plugins/ but the fbconnect go into plugins/ ? I have had lots of problems with this install. I have ripped this all out to start again. Do I install to mu-plugins/ or plugins/ ? Is there a test I can run before I add the fbconnect part to be sure I have it all right before I install this? I have been doing fine up to this point, it seems; just wondering where I’m hanging up. Many thanks for the help.
i have had this before and i belive it is all in one seo, so if you have that installed go to the options and uncheck rewrite titles, as it doesnt play nice with buddypress, hope that helps
Just a quick look at your site. I guess it\’s slower than other bp sites I\’ve seen. Speed depends on a lot of factors. The plugins you are using can slow you down if they do a lot of db queries. The host you use is also a major determining factor as well as the type of hosting. DV is usually faster than shared hosting.
bp takes advantage of the standard wp object cache now. I’ve heard of significant performance improvements. Use the latest trunk to take advantage of this. See below on how to turn it on.

Vida, this is a custom theme just for buddypress.org. It’s not being released at the moment.
I think this new home theme is beautiful. Any idea where we can find and download it?
I have just uploaded the zip version of buddypress on wordpress mu 2.7. Although I love the old home theme, I would very much like to access this one too.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much;
Vida
Download BuddyPress RC-1 → is not the same with the trunk wersion?
If not how can i upgrade?
Alrighty, installed WP-DBmanager and didn’t get the WSOD. I had to deactivate my other plugins and install WP-DBManager and then re-activated the other plugins, but still the site is slightly laggy at the beginning of any click.
Forgot to mention. I tried to install the WP-DBmanager plugin, but I received the “white screen of death.”
Well alrighty then. I just thought it had been overlooked.
Andy can’t update the readme because it would change the readme in the download RC1 package. Something like that. He explained it. I got that out of the explanation Bloom.
Hi all. I’m new to buddypress and the community here. I’ve installed buddypress RC-1 and wpmu successfully. I’ve also installed bp-dev.org’s plugins successfully. The auto-suggest feature is pretty cool. My problem is this. I have installed the WP Super Cache and went through the “improving buddypress performance,” yet there is a noticeable lag on my site. ndcom.com
Basically, when you click around on the site, there’s noticeable lag and then the content explodes and loads quickly. Wondering if:
1. there’s a fix for this?
2. is it my hosting plan/company?
3. or is it just “how it is” with buddypress/wpmu?
I’m on a shared hosting plan with aplus.net if that helps (or makes a difference).
Thanks,
