    i’m sure it depends on the version your using: i was getting mad to solve it in my local installation with no success: i thought it was a fault of my custom theme. Then i’ve tried my custom theme on my second local installation and all worked fine. I don’t remember how to see the current version number of buddypress, if i know how to see it i can tell you what is the working version.

    have now reverted back to RC1 and it’s working ok – had some conflict with All in One SEO plugin as well. Will have another go at it with the plugin disabled – still confused about the error message.

    You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.

    Please download the Default BuddyPress Theme and install it in /wp-content/buddypress-themes

    I overwrote all my bp files with those in the trunk in order to try the bp-fbconnect plugin, but since doing this a lot of the names of my members are missing and when clicking on their avatar i get the message

    You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.

    Please download the Default BuddyPress Theme and install it in /wp-content/buddypress-

    This is not correct as i have two themes installed and i think all the files are in the right place, but not in the folder wp-content/buddypress-themes as i’m not sure i’ve ever had this, guessing it’s a new feature? Should I roll back to the RC? Has anyone else had this issue?

    Also still can’t get the bp-fbconnect button to show. Any help on both would be truely appreciated

    You can currently use the bbGroups plugin by BurtAdsit to do this with group forums. He’s paused integration for other Extended Profile fields and non-group forums for now, but that is the closest integration available currently.

    Take a look over at http://code.ourcommoninterest.org/

    Science Content!

    The problem with doing it any other way right now, is that without grabbing and caching forum specific BuddyPress profile info and putting it into a convenient user_meta array, it would require an additional query into the database for each user that you want each piece of info for. So lets say you not only want the avatar, but their fullname, and another piece of profile info that you’ve made up. That’s three queries a person, per post, per page. A page with 10 posts just gave you 30 extra queries. The bbGroups plugin works great to counter act this, but I’ve been the primary beta tester experiencing hiccups and Burt has patiently been trouble shooting with me to figure out why. The past week life has sort-of halted my ability to test, but it is a priority for me to address.

    unfortunately this did not work for me, i’d also like to use one wpmu install and run multiple separate domains with buddypress on a subdomain and bbpress, using the inove theme.

    see my post on wpmu forum

    Hello thanks for your reply.

    The only things I’ve changed in the themes are the logo.gif files and the adminbar.gif in bp-core/images, I’ve never touched any php or html file.

    Only in footer.php I added google analytics code, just before the </body> tag.

    I just tested with the latest unmodified bp-themes (home and member) from SVN.

    I also updated all buddypress mu-plugins to this latest SVN.

    The sidebar is still in the content div.

    Offcourse I cleared browser-cache etc, etc.

    oh i know well that …lovely… bug: it happens only when you are not logged in.

    Yes you’re right this doesn’t happens when a user is logged in.

    Anyway I’ll keep on searching what causes this.

    If anyone has some advice, you’re welcome to post.

    How do we address the path issue?

    Hi everyone,

    I’m new to BuddyPress and I had a search on this forum before adding this new topic. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything.

    I already have a standard (not MU) WordPress website with almost 100 users. Everyone with their profile and posts. I’m planning to migrate to a social network platform for my users, and I’d like to export users and their data into WordPressMU/BuddyPress.

    Is there any workaround or plugin, to do this?

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I’ve already submitted this issue to trac, but I’m hoping somebody else has had this problem too and found a temporary fix to it.

    http://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/590

    Essentially what is happening is no crop tools are given when a user uploads an image. The uploaded image will show on the screen, but they are unable to crop it, and the “crop preview” is non-existent. This happens with both my user avatars and group avatars.

    Before anybody asks, I’m using the Trunk version 1202, I have GD Library and Image Magick installed, and I’m on a VPS, not shared hosting. If anybody knows what could be causing it I’d greatly appreciate the help!

    Can I just say that you have made a excellent choice in pmwiki. Have you thought about making group wikis?

    Thank you for your reply. As I noted earlier, I’m already running a WordPress blog network with active members. Incidentally, the README.txt file for WordPress actually uses the directory /blogs as an example:

    * If you want to have your WordPress MU installation in its own

    subdirectory on your web site (e.g. http://example.com/blogs/),

    rename the directory wordpressmu to the name you’d like the

    subdirectory to have and move or upload it to your web server.

    For example if you want the WordPress MU installation in a

    subdirectory called “blog”, you should rename the directory called

    “wordpressmu” to “blogs” and upload it to the root directory of your

    web server.

    I imagine this may be a problem for others who went in this direction. Are you saying that those of us in this situation are out of luck with BuddyPress unless we reinstall and try to import all of our users’ blogs into the new site?

    Thanks again, I do appreciate your time on this.

    Hi all,

    Sorry this is going to be a long post, but there’s something I find very strange in the open source world, and WP in particular.

    Since I first started to use WP 5 years ago I’ve seen people on forums saying they’d really be interested in seeing some plugin developed, and that they’d even be prepared to participate financially, but most of the time things don’t come through.

    I’ve always felt that there was something to be done here, some way to get interested people to fund together the development of plugins in an organized and reasonably safe fashion.

    Couldn’t we try something like this:

    1. Set up a new forum section, or a subsection of the “request & feedback”, to post requests by people who’d be prepared to commit to participate to the funding.

    2. For those projects that gather enough interest, we then create a dedicated group (a funding group), where only those who are prepared to finance become members.

    3. Since guys like me don’t know how choose a good coder (and here’s an important point), there could be an experienced programmer (from Automattic maybe… :D) that would act as the project’s “supervisor”, and guide the selection of the coder.

    4. Once we’re set on the features and dev cost of the plugin, we’d try and gather enough group members to fund it.

    5. Once enough members are there, a fund call message is sent to all of them, we wire the money onto some paypal account, and development can start under the supervision of the supervisor (the guy we rely on not to get swindled). There could be a devlog where we follow the process.

    The cornerstone of all this is finding professionals to act as supervisors. But I think that WP and BP would really benefit from this, as it could speed up the development of great features.

    Imagine, a plugin that would cost 800$ to develop would only take 40 people paying 20$ each. Why isn’t this happening already?

    In order to put somekind of incentive in funding projects, there could be a period of time set before the plugin is ultimately released to the open public for download.

    What do you guys think?

    PS. I just saw that there’s already a discussion on the same topic on the forum at BuddyPress Dev

    In my website i show my free themes for buddypress, but i don’t know how to create live preview of my themes. How it is possible to allow users (not registered) to choose themes and see them live?

    willwright

    Hello there, first post:

    I have searched and fiddled around for a way to register new users automatically to the blog they selected “register” in.

    This is what happens: I have a WPMU + BuddyPress installation with 2 blogs: “/” & “community”. “http://mysite.com/community&#8221; is where buddypress is running perfectly and “http://mysite.com&#8221; is the regular institutional website.

    When someone visits the buddypress installation on “community” and selects to register, he is redirected to “http://mysite.com/wp-signup.php&#8221; and therefore gets signed up at the main blog (“/”) and not to “community” as I intended. So I have to manually change each registered user in the wp-admin interface every time…

    I know there were a few subfolder issues (as was my case) but now everything else works seamlessly…

    Any pointers of what should I change in order for this to work smoothly?

    Cheers!

    I’m a newbie to BuddyPress, but I’m pretty familiar with WP, just not mu. I have BP rc-1 installed and running however, when I select a widget for the right-column or center-column it is added to the left column with the exception of the text widget. I am using the BP home theme. Please help.

    Make sure you are starting your customization with the latest trunk brad85. I don’t know what ver of bp’s home theme you are customizing. In the latest trunk there are two functions that control what goes on in the login/signup buttons. The bp home theme header.php file calls <?php bp_login_bar() ?>. In that fn it calls bp_signup_page() which you see below:

    function bp_has_custom_signup_page() {

    if ( file_exists( WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/themes/’ . get_blog_option( 1, ‘template’) . ‘/register.php’) )

    return true;

    return false;

    }

    function bp_signup_page( $echo = true ) {

    global $bp;

    if ( bp_has_custom_signup_page() ) {

    if ( $echo )

    echo $bp->root_domain . ‘/’ . REGISTER_SLUG;

    else

    return $bp->root_domain . ‘/’ . REGISTER_SLUG;

    } else {

    if ( $echo )

    echo $bp->root_domain . ‘/wp-signup.php’;

    else

    return $bp->root_domain . ‘/wp-signup.php’;

    }

    }

    Unless you don’t have the register.php file in /themes/<your theme>, or you’ve somehow altered the header calling sequence so this code doesn’t run, then it should work fine. The signup button should not have anything to do with wp-login.php

    I see that spot in wpmu code. What does something hard coded in wpmu have to do with bp?

    Burt Adsit
    Participant

    get_bloginfo(‘wpurl’).”/wp-admin/profile.php

    should be replaced with a call to: bp_core_get_userurl($bp->loggedin_user->id) which is the url to the currently logged in user. You’ll have to declare ‘global $bp;’ someplace before that in the code.

    “i have the BuddyPress Home Theme set to active and the other set to no.”

    here you are talking bout the “admin themes” where admin can approve or not themes that can be activated. But it is not the activation: go to Design / Themes and click on the selected theme you want to be active.
