Attention
Participant@ubernaut – your website gotgame dot come looks very nice on the front end. I registered and was able to login. But here is the key question and the reason why I wanted to test it on some website that looks nice on the front end like yours.
Question is – don’t you think that the average user gets confused when they register and login. I mean, after registration, I see homepage I already saw and there is new bar on the top. I am like “Huh! What now…” – nothing is intuitive and user has not idea how to add content to this website and contribute.
I assume this is default way BuddyPress handles experiece after the login and I must say – GUI does not help you to grow your members, contributors and content.
Is there a better way? Is there a better template we can redirect logged in users so they can have AN IDEA of what to do after they login?
Help from anyone greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

ParticipantIt would be helpful if you could check your PHP logs and find out what the 500 error was. I’ve never seen a 405 message before; it could be a problem with your ISP.

ParticipantI also noticed that the left curly quote was not correct in the activity stream, and curly quotes can cause other problems. To remove them I added the following to my functions.php in my child theme:
remove_filter('bp_get_activity_content_body', 'wptexturize');April 25, 2013 at 3:42 pm #162586In reply to: BuddyPress Demo WebSite

ParticipantYou can run in theme compat mode i.e no BP folders directly in the theme root, or for that matter any BP templates in the theme then create a folder in the theme named ‘buddypress’ or ‘community’ into that you copy the templates from /bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/ e.g /members/index.php and/or /members/members-loop.phpΒ preserving the folder structure to your new folder in theme root now you can copy the mods you had to those files and see how things pan out.
A slightly more detailed guide to read is here:

ParticipantI found a way to create a group but i can see the group that i have created.
If you go to the admin page. There will be BuddyPress icon on the top of the admin login.
Hover over the icon and hover over Profile fields/group and then add new field groupApril 25, 2013 at 8:07 am #162567In reply to: BuddyPress Demo WebSite

ParticipantThe reason why i need to customize the membership directory template is
a, You have to click on All members when you get to the memership directory page instead of automatically showing all the members
b, Since i have some extra profile fields showing in the membership directory it becomes distorted and fields are all over the place
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Participantok so i discovered that because i set up multi sites first and later added buddypress, the orignal multi site sub sites did not register. so now when users register a sub site it is showing up under the buddypress sites tab.
if anyone can explain how i can add the original sites to the buddypress profile i would be a happy vegimiteApril 25, 2013 at 2:58 am #162552In reply to: complete sign up button

ModeratorWhat am I missing? It seems to be working on your site. You’re just missing some css.
http://www.victoryrock.org/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/css/buddypress.css
The file is there but it’s not loaded into header. Is there a buddypress.css file in your theme folder?

Participant@hnla All I did was install Buddypress without any themes or plugins. It’s as raw as it could be.
@modemlooper where do I find that file? And where do I paste the piece of code into it? Is it possible for me to send you my buddypress.php file and have you install it? To reiterate, I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to code. I kinda sweat if I have to make changes to it π
@mercime Here’s a link to my site. It’s all in the tab FORUMThanks everyone for your help!
