Is the following possible with BuddyPress (& bbpress):
(I am following the steps under section B in https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/)
– ability for a user to be set up as a ‘group moderator’
– the moderator from above can grant access to users who have requested access to a private forum (if this is possible without the need for them to log in to wp-admin that’d be great)
The https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-private-groups/ plugin does the private forum stuff but does not allow for moderation of users by other users

Any caching plugin will ignore (or should ignore) logged in users and not present them a cached version.
The only way to get around this is to use fragment caching which is when you take parts of the web page which do not change, even if the user is logged in and cache them and present these cached versions to the user. For example, sidebar content.
W3Total Cache does support fragment caching but it is a premium feature and you have to buy it at a price of $95, I think but don’t quote me on that 🙂

The good news is that you do have several open sourced and free options for fragment caching. There are several out there is you just google, including one by rarst.
The fact that caching isn’t really helpful for buddypress sites – since the whole point is to have a social site where people login and interact means that a HUGE amount of priority from a development point of view should be going towards optimization and performance.
We’ve seen some improvements but there’s a long ways to go yet to even come close to wringing out the most. Buddypress is hampered by a large legacy code base with some fundamental structural decisions made early on which still have repercussions today and the desire of the developers to have backward compatibility.
But you can always speak up and add another vote to let the dev team know what your priorities are as a user and community member.

Did you try using a standard theme like WP 2012 to see if any of the issues are caused by your theme?
Did you ask the creators BuddyPress Activity Plus about your issue re that plugin?
BP ( and WP for that matter ) don’t take other plugins into account when they create an update.
These issues are not infrequent.
A decent developer can solve them.
You might be happier staying with the version of BP that you were happy with.

I did the last buddypress update and it conflicted with several plugins on my site. I installed a backup and waited for the next update. Version 2.1.1 was released and I waited a while for any other updates. Finally, I updated and it created the same problems as before. It has caused my MapPress Easy Google Maps plugin to quit working and on my frequently asked questions page the dropdown answers no longer work. It has also caused my BuddyPress Activity Plus plugin to stop working. That’s all the problems I’m seeing at the moment. This is a mess. Is there a fix?

@tiger007xy you’re right in thinking something’s awry in your installation. WP/BP versions? Theme/Plugins used? Have you done some basic troubleshooting like changing to Twenty Fourteen and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress to check if issue is resolved.
Currently when a user views another users profile they are able to edit their password, info and change avatar.

I’ve been testing some with buddypress and W3tc by using page cache, what are the recommendation when it comes to caching part in buddypress? I have setup that w3tc doesn’t cache very dynamic pages like activity,groups.. I have read a lot of topics around about this, but some are pretty old. So I don’t know how things looks right now. Should a just page cache my theme and then not cache anything with buddypress?
Because that’s ‘where’ the hook is.
Take a look at
buddypress\bp-templates\bp-legacy\buddypress\members\single\member-header.php
Use one of the do_action hooks or create a template overload of that page and put your code in it.
@cartographer Not sure why it’s happening in your installation. What theme/plugins are you using? Also, check pending users list in a new admin screen added by BP https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-components-and-features/member/pending-users-admin-screen/
@fugglet Unless you’re using the BP Default theme, the change you made won’t affect what shows up in your theme as you found out. Instead of revising core files (which would be overwritten when you upgrade next), you could do either of the following:
– copy over https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/2.1.1/src/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/register.php into your theme or child theme following the directory structure, i.e. yourThemeName/buddypress/members/register.php and make the changes in that file.

Sorry for spamming! But is it somehow possible to give BuddyPress pages certain IDs, so the comments can use them?

Thanks! I put the function into wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/single/home.php. I tried several comments.phps from several themes, but the only thing that always shows up is the number of comments (0 comments), but no comment forms. I think that’s because comments are closed on this kind of page and I don’t know how to “open” them. And when I modify the comment forms to show up on closed comments, the blank wp-comments-post.php appears, after I click submit.

file, at about line 18. Where the text was like the above, but after changing it – it doesn’t affect it, it’s still the same.

That’s how your theme styles the page. It’s done via HTML and CSS. Regarding your question, you have a few options:
1. Write HTML and CSS yourself so that the style looks the same. See here and here for a guide to get you started
2. Find a theme from the Themes Directory that does this for you. Note that you’ll want a theme that includes styles for the BuddyPress profile page (unfortunately, there’s not many around right now but more and more are slowly being released)
3. Hire a designer to write some custom styles. The BP Jobs Forum is a good place to start if you decide to take this option.
But you’re saying comments_template() is also possible on BuddyPress-sites?
Yes definitely, but as far as I know, only inside singular contexts (i.e. page.php and single.php templates).
Where were you pasting the function? And what does your comments.php file look like (that’s the file comments_template() uses)?

I’m sorry to bug you again, but it just won’t show normal comments on our BuddyPress sites. Is it impossible – or is it too obvious and I’m kinda stupid? 🙂

@dceditore I seen someone’s screenshot of the same issue around a year or so ago. WP/BP versions? What theme are you using and what plugins are activated in your installation? Change to the Twenty Fourteen, deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress, and then check if the issue is resolved on that page.
By default Buddypress doesn’t have it’s own Login or Forgot Password pages. The behaviour of your site is correct. You could create your own page templates for separate pages, or use a plugin something like this:
