ParticipantI can use CSS and I use to make WordPress themes by myself but I don’t know how to make a theme for Buddypress, that’s why I made a layout using Lubith.com. And when I was installing Buddypress it asked if I wanted to change my theme and I said no so it said it edited it to make it work with Buddypress. And it works but the only thing that doesn’t work is the sidebar. I tried changing the code again but this doesn’t work. What should I do?

ParticipantFor starters you have a critical markup error in a misplaced closing div this will not only throw out most browsers ability to render a layout but makes tracking down any other issues pointless until it’s rectified.
Can you confirm that you haven’t originally attempted to run the template pack plugin on this theme to get it BP compatible as those BP pages do not feel like ‘theme compat’ ones. You don’t have any BP template files moved into your theme do you?
March 16, 2013 at 11:40 am #156534Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantI thought I needed to activate the BuddyPress Template Pack
Why?
The theme you chose is a BuddyPress enabled, aware theme; you do not need to or want to run the template pack on it.
I would just delete the ‘Custom Community’ theme and install a fresh copy and start over.

ParticipantOk… I’m a dope.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated by this technically deficit boobhead! I can usually figure something out with good instruction – and I’ve tried figuring this out unsuccessfully 🙁
I thought I needed to activate the BuddyPress Template Pack and when I did, I now get:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_dtheme_ajax_querystring() (previously declared in /home/usafun/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/ajax.php:91) in /home/usafun/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/custom-community/_inc/ajax.php on line 81
I can’t get into dashboard of my blog to deactivate the template pack or anywhere else on the website at http://www.funseekersusa.com/blog 🙁
This is my son’s non-profit organization (he’s 13 and just incorporated in Florida), so I really need help undoing what I did to crap out his blog.
Again, any and all help would be greatly appreciated (and is desperately needed).

Participant@demetrius-pop ah the permissions problem. For the multisite installation, activating BuddyPress network-wide resolved that for me.
Deactivate BP – from main site or subsite dashboard. Then go to Network Admin > Plugins and activate BuddyPress there. This will activate BP in main site by default. If you want BP in secondary site (subsite), add the following to your wp-config.php file before activating BuddyPress network-wide:
define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 3 );
change 3 to the blog ID where you want BP installed.March 16, 2013 at 12:21 am #156516In reply to: changing the header

@mercime
ParticipantYou would want to look at how creating pages, slugs, along with front-end posting are done within the member’s profile section in theBuddyBlog plugin. It’s a bit more than what you need, but you’ll get the drift when you look at the code.

Participant@cikez Glad you resolved the issue and thanks for posting back on what caused it 🙂 Good to know that theme compat is working even in Artisteer themes.

ParticipantWP/BP versions? Single/Multisite install? Have you done some basic troubleshooting like changing to BP default theme or deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress?

‘href’ => ( ‘bp_loggedin_user_domain() . bp_get_friends_slug() . ‘/requests/’ )
and this for the messages
‘href’ => ( ‘bp_loggedin_user_domain() . bp_get_messages_slug() . ‘/view/’ )i also answered to you here

ParticipantThis has been resolved. The issue was there was a space in the folder name of the theme but BuddyPress was looking for the custom css file WITHOUT the spaces. To resolve this I just renamed the theme folder to not have spaces in it.

ParticipantWell, the next day, I was able to log in again. However, I still am not able to run the wizard install. It still says no access privilege.
I installed the plugin in the main admin of my multi-site. I will try and deactivate all other plugins. I have tried installing on the main site, as well as subsites.
I also installed buddypress on a standard WordPress install, and it works fine. I was able to run the install wizard, settings, and the whole nine yards. It’s wonderful by the way.
