In reply to: [Resolved] WPMU BP 1.7(b) Sub Site Ajax URL Issue
dasped
ParticipantHi @Chouf1
I already told my theme author about this and in return he offered a solution:
Remove: wp_enqueue_script( ‘dtheme-ajax-js’, BP_PLUGIN_URL . ‘/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.js’, array( ‘jquery’ ), $version ); From theme functions.php
I did this and this and this stopped the duplicate post issue I was having see: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/troubleshooting-duplicated-activity-restricted-mapped-domain/
Is it your thoughts that add_theme_support( ‘buddypress’ ); is possibly the root of the ajax issue too .. ?
Oh & thanks for your input anyway @Ben Hansen, any food for thought is better than none at all.

ParticipantHi
Can make a plugin for Buddypress so that the forum sends private messages to group users. This will then cause the notification system to pick up the message and show it in the grey WordPress/Buddypress notification bar. Your forum notification problem solved for only £15.
Let me know if you are interested and we will build it

ParticipantThanks @Ben Hansen
Have suffix’s or specific tld’s been known to cause any issues in the past?
I do have a .com tld WPMU set up using sub doms and that works fine, though I not their ajax URL’s appear within a <![CDATA[ wrapper. I note that my current problematic sites do not appear in such a wrapper! ?
The only thing I can find within my problematic WPMU BPMB child and master theme that possibly relates to this issue is as follows.
buddypress-functions.php (File found in child & master)
/* Load the default BuddyPress AJAX functions */
/* We are going to load the ajax from the BuddyPress plugin directory so we always use the latest version */
require_once( BP_PLUGIN_DIR . ‘/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/ajax.php’ );
But if I edit those lines out, there is still no change .. ? (So don’t think that that is related)
The saga continues…

Thanks for your reply.
I’m using WP 3.5.1 and BP 1.6.4 and a child theme of BP default with nothing in it but a style.css
I deactivated all plugins except buddypress and it still has that weird stuff at the end of the url so what could it possibly be?February 28, 2013 at 10:28 pm #154747bp-help
ParticipantYou can use this tutorial http://wpmu.org/how-to-add-profile-privacy-to-buddypress/
its meant for profiles but it can be adapted for friends. Follow it exactly but instead of putting3. Edit your theme file to include the friendship check:
To restrict profile info, open up /members/single/profile.php and add this at the top of the page:add that code in 3. instead to /members/single/friends.php
You may also want to change the test in 2. step to:
You must be friends in order to access users friends.February 28, 2013 at 10:12 pm #154746Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIt’s not part of BuddyPress core. Maybe it’s a theme or plugin.

ParticipantThank you, now got it. Theme switcher looks better option than redirecting user to different URL, I am looking at different theme switcher, thanks for your guidance. @modemlooper

ModeratorYou don’t have separate sites. Use the same install. Use htaccess rewrites to show a different url when on mobile and a different theme.
If you don’t care so much about the url it’s easy to show a different theme at the same url. This is the preferred method now. At one time having a dedicated subdomain for mobile was the way but google frowns on this and your links are confusing.
url.com/item should be the same url no matter what device. You just display the content accordingly.

ParticipantI agree with BeautyPirate – it would be great if the user backend pages were included in the template pack. I know that’s quite a bit of work, but it would make it much more user friendly.

ParticipantAbsolutely can´t wait for the release!
Just one thing:
PLEASE don´t make Subscribers go to the WP Dashboard. I want the subscribers to have all they need on the front end of the site only due to the crappy looks of the dashboard plus all the WP logos which kind of break the experience of being on my website, right? There was a plugin which did that but it hasn´t been updated to WP 3.5.1 and it might never be.
Just in case you guys don´t have enough work to attend already 😉 I wish I could help but that code is like Chinese language to me.

Participant@mercime Thank you so much, for that link, will try it.
@valuser I used wp-user-frontend for 1 week, after I got link from you, and it worked perfectly, where my user was able to post, edit their post (if needed), thats what I wanted, ability for users to post and edit without sending the user to backend and with subscriber role, but soon the plugin gave error, and thr was no response in support, after that, when I researched a bit, I got some info like this plugin is going PRO. but yes, when now I look into the plugin support, i am glad to see that its working. ParticipantThere is a error on the activity page
Warning: Illegal string offset ‘infobartext’ in x/x/x/x/ProudConservative/wp-content/themes/Tersus/lib/adm/inc/meta_config.php on line 29This is not a big deal. It shows until some text is put in its place.
have you set your permalinks, as recommanded, to something other as default path ?
Yes
Have you old pages in the trash with identical names as the online pages ? If yes delete them definely ?
Yes. There are no duplicate pages
Are all pages appering on the BP settings page tab ?
Yes.
Each BP option you use should have is own page. (xprofile, forums, etc) Is this the case ?
Yes. I create buddypress sites all the time and have never had this issue before. I’m sure it’s a minor thing somewhere, and I’m just unable to find it. I was having issues with products on this site before and found out the website owner was making his own slugs and using underscores instead of dashes. Once that was repaired, all was fine with products.
It’s frustrating when clients try to “help” while I am working on the site, but some are very hands on, if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, I actually tried a new install and had the same problem. So, I probably just imported the problem.
I will double-check the profile page settings and see if this repairs anything. Thanks for your time and I will let you know.

ParticipantSorry to bump (Hate feeling a need to do that) But I really could do with some thoughts here, I’m nearing x2 weeks to install Buddypress here (Has to be some kind of record). My whole site build is on halt whilst I get this working to some effect.
Ajax URL is always pointing to network base site and therefore preventing BP from allowing posts or editing within a mapped domain site within the network.
Even if you don’t hold a wand or wizard’s staff, I’d still be grateful of your input. Surely there is some interest/concern as to why this would be happening within a WPMU BPMB enabled website?
I just can’t get my head round, how any WPMU BPMB cross network set up can function as it is meant to if this occurs?
Thanks

ParticipantEnsure pages exist that can be assigned to BP components, then ensure you have refreshed permalinks and that permalinks are set to anything other than default.
