ParticipantI’m using Wanguard and that seems to be working better now after a few days. It worked perfectly, then I had a smattering of sploggers, then it’s been quiet again. Hopefully it stays that way. If it remains a problem, I will look into your recommendation Slava. Tks.
The memory issue wasn’t Private Buddypress after all. I deactivated all my plugins, deleted bbpress/buddypress and reinstalled them, then reinstalled one plugin after the other in the right sequence – buddypress first, then buddypress upgrade plugins after – the problem is gone.
I did talk to my host though and they said I need VPS, which I’m not convinced of yet. We’ll see.
In the meantime – is there no WYSIWYG editor for bbPress?

ParticipantSorry, I missed your reply. I don’t need a refresh button now because I’m using the RS BuddyPress Activity Refresh plugin to automatically update the activity stream in realtime but my idea was that I could use a refresh button to allow members to refresh the activity stream without needing to refresh the whole page. A refresh button would be quicker and smoother because it would use Ajax.

ParticipantHi @orbitor
How you said, WangGuard works great for protect your website and with the Wizard you can check many of the old ones. But every website is different and WangGuard knows many old Sploggers, but not all of them. WangGuard is only 1 year an 11 month old (today).
The first year blocked 750.000 sploggers, and in the in the next 11 months, 5.000.0000 sploggers. You can see that its growth is exponential.
About your question if there is a tool for check the humanity of your old users… I’m sorry but only WangGuard. WangGuard is the only tool out there to check users
Kind regards

ParticipantIt just seems many functions can be somewhat duplicated without buddypress so eventually it’ll be a decision if full social features from buddypress is actually needed or not. Thanks for each of your response.

ParticipantThank you, yes I am on a cheap host so it’s possibly the cause, although I had it all set up before without the problem.
Are there any alternative options to private buddypress. The entire site becomes useless if it can not be private. I’m coming from a private ning education site and it just wouldn’t fit our community’s needs so I feel I have no choice but to use this outdated plugin.

ParticipantYes may well be, even if it is a current stable stream , some hosts won’t have moved off 5.2.* so you may well exlude people personally I wouldn’t restrict things in this manner.

ModeratorOpen members/members-loop.php file in your theme.
Copy its code and paste into your page template file.
Find this string in that code:
`bp_has_members( bp_ajax_querystring( ‘members’ )`
Change it to smth like this:
`bp_has_members(array(‘search_terms’ => ‘virginia beach’))`PS Open `/buddypress/bp-members/bp-members-template.php` file, line 264, to see all possible values that you can pass to a function.

ModeratorYou can also look at groups like events (in some cases). So all joined members are attendees. Although there are several events-based plugins for BuddyPress…

ParticipantI’m sure it will be welcome as long as you submit it for WP theme review and inclusion in the WP theme repository .

Participantthanks @mercime i’ve dropped the theme designer a message.
it’s the onecommunity theme, a new one on themeforest.January 25, 2013 at 4:37 pm #151730@mercime
Participant@fpats Only plugin needed is BuddyPress. Join group button should be at Groups Directory page as well as in single group’s page. All’s well with BP Default theme. What theme are you using? Could be that you need to upgrade your theme or JS was not enqueued or something else.

Participant@shanebp thanks man.
This is the right code for BP 1.5+
`function remove_xprofile_links() {
remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘xprofile_filter_link_profile_data’, 9, 2 );
}
add_action( ‘bp_init’, ‘remove_xprofile_links’ );`It should be added to bp-custom.php
