@mercime
Participant(unless you’re using “blogs” as the slug for “Site Activity” possibly… haven’t tested that).
@masonjames Yes, I’ve always used blogs as the slug in all my installations so never had that issue, thank goodness. Thank you for the clarification and for posting the trac ticket 🙂
Have great weekend!

ParticipantI have to confirm exactly that issue with WP 3.5 Multi Site, BP 1.6.2, bbP 2.2.3.
Only group forums are affected, not sitewide forums.
Also, I don’t have the bbPress Settings -> Theme Packages options as shown in https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ? So I’m using the BuddyPress Default theme.
Only advice I found so far: “Disable BuddyPress’s Forums component” – https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/version-2-2-fatal-error-creating-topic/ …

KeymasterIf it is a BuddyPress bug, or if there’s something WP Engine needs from us, they know we’re ready and available to ping ideas off of. They’re good folks, and I’ve met several of the guys in person on multiple occasions.
If you can, update in this topic whatever happens, and we’ll make whatever changes we need to on our end.

ParticipantWhen I have buddypress turned on I get all sorts of errors when I try to do certain things.
For example, when I try to post a status, the following error pops up
Fatal error: Call to undefined function vt_resize() in /home2/username/public_html/wp-content/themes/salutation/framework/theme-functions/buddypress.php on line 78
December 29, 2012 at 12:18 am #149165faeronsayn
ParticipantI’ve had it previously set to 256M which I thought would be enough, I don’t understand why I would need more than that much memory. All the resources i’ve looked at for buddypress they all recommend about 128M.

KeymasterIf it gets to the point where WP Engine can’t understand what BuddyPress is doing, please let them know — or any other web host, actually — we’re happy to work with them on any problems; paul@buddypress.org.
This is probably just a bug(s) in BuddyPress rather than the host; hopefully someone will be able to spend some time investigating soon.

Participanthi curious about your situation @themightymo i also have been experiencing a rather odd bug of my own since we switched to wp engine:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/my-join-group-button-is-acting-funny/
i have found them to be very knowledgable over there and the service itself seems to be beyond comparison for wordpress hosting.

You might also look into custom walkers for the WordPress menu.

ParticipantYou could replicate the styles in the plugin and then manually create a menu via your theme. Would that suit your needs?

Participant@lunchgirl,
I had an odd experience on WP Engine as well. In my case, pushing their support team to correct the problem via the WP Engine ticket system led to a solution. Unfortunately, it took a lot of nudging before they took action.December 28, 2012 at 7:36 pm #149147In reply to: BuddyPress Moderation 0.1.6

ParticipantYes, I suppose it’s always possible to commission a suitable developer to upgrade a single plugin.
I must say that since coming on these forums (wp & bp & wpse) I have experienced nothing but hardworking, selfless givers who have slaved over and solved the sometimes absurd problems of takers (for the most part) like me. And in fairness the vast majority the stuff is up-to-date.
Some open source bp plugins like bebop & commonsinabox have been helped along with grants from outside sources. Perhaps if there was some fund that some of us (or hopefully a lot of us) could contribute to in a small way that could be used to fund a project such as this (the updating of one buddypress plugin to be put back (working with current versions of wp & bp) in the wp repository) and then another and another.

Participantbuddypress is not doing anything to stop it.
And pray tell what is BP supposed to do about it? Be nice to get some suggestions!
fwiw spam is a pandemic or appdemic issue it affects nearly all CMS / forum apps out there on the net, the issue is not one that can be effectively dealt with one can only stem the tide and also fwiw it’s up to you the end user of this frely provided software to put you various traps and safeguards in place, and to be massivelly pro-active in the fight, if on the other hand – as some have wailed, that they return to their site after a week and it’s all full of spam well…
So posts – and they are quite frequent – that point the accusatory finger at BP ought to stop doing so, it is NOT BP’s issue it’s yours!
And there are a whole heap of approaches one can take and a million threads on the subject, oh and it’s not just above specific apps or plugins a little knowledge of how to manipulate resources such as .htaccess can help.

Participantwell most any theme should be able to incorporate buddypress content/pages but obviously a theme which is designed with buddypress in mind has the potential for a far more seamless user experience. in the next version of buddypress theme modification may not even be necessary for most themes, but again i would tend to go for a theme which takes advantage of buddypress’s additional functionality.

ParticipantThanks Hugo. I do have some Basic HTML coding skills…I know how to copy/paste code, change code in a HTML editor, add images, links, and that sort of basics knowledge. I have a Graphic design Background, so I am very familiar with layout and content, and features. My Problem is “MY Template” I’ve designed my whole site in WP which is not a problem for me…but after adding the BuddyPress Sections to the TOP Menu in my template, I have drawn a blank….lol….there is NOTHING on Each Page when viewed in Preview Mode Browser. I do know, that I have to ADD widgets and other content to A Created page in WP/BuddyPress in order to get the content to DIsplay in my browser. However,….lol….I’m lost at the Which Widget, and Things to add to the BP pages (Activate, Register, Activity, Members) pages. I have added them in Apperarance>>Menus>>Top Menu>>Select (Those) Pages>>Then Add To Menu….I’ve done all of this. I just don’t know what to add from here, to get these pages and their content to show-up so that everything works in my Current theme. Do I have to pick another theme, or just NOT use buddypress, and find another WP Membership plug-in that allows PROFILES and Writing in a Blog that every member can read? Another theme is NOT an option at this time. All of the other features I described in my Original Post, can be added with a few plug-ins right? So All I REALLY Need BuddyPress for is The MEMBERSHIP, Profiles, and Members Search Features intergrated to work with The Continuum Theme. There shouls be a better way around this, and I still get the same results. ALL Of My Website Content IS CREATED!!!! I’m just adding Members access, sign-up, and create a profile. Thanks.

i don’t think that’s a fair statement at all. everyone here knows how important this issue is and everyone here is doing their best to incorporate features that help without any downside. the article you mention is also referencing wanguard which sounds like a tool to fight slog regs but there is potential downside (blocking legit users who have been incorrectly flagged by wanguard for some reason or another).

ParticipantAnd this is the most frustrating part about running a production site based on a community of now and then programmers.
For so many years, we’ve been pushing open source, Linux, low cost software, etc etc but it’s always come back to hurt us one way or another unless we programmed our own stuff.I guess we wait or find a commercial solution.

ParticipantA lot of these requests are not necessarily that straight forward, if you do not have the level of technical skills required you probably ought to be considering hiring a WP/BP developer to get your site running, especially as you have a somewhat unrealistic timescale involved here.
Getting BP compatible with your chosen theme, does require a little coding knowledge, basic level. You need to look through the BP codex documentation for the template pack walkthroughs which will guide you as to how to make BP template files compatible, also there’s a long list of themes already put through this process so check yours isn’t on it first.
More detailed help might be forthcoming but this isn’t the greatest time of year to be seeking detailed help as many on extended breaks at the moment.

ParticipantHiya @mercime,
From the network admin you’re correct it will go to wp-admin/network/site-new.php.
Easiest way to see the issue is to go to the “My Sites” link and click “Create new site” from there (assuming logged in users can create sites). This is how non-network admin’s would create a new site.
This link is borked (unless you’re using “blogs” as the slug for “Site Activity” possibly… haven’t tested that). Here’s the trac ticket with the fix (slated for 1.7):
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4632Hope that clarifies. Thanks!

Participant@latinoleader Open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, post to pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php, and footer.php files.

ParticipantYou really should not post links like this on a open public forum where any age group has access, at the very least you MUST preface your op with the acronym ‘NSFW’ to warn people not to click on the link, but really considering the nature of the links it’s extremely poor form of you to post them at all here.
You should have described the nature of the issue in as much detail as possible and allowed other to see if they could re-create.

I am doing some further tests and I can see that the wordpress password reset email takes about 10 minutes aswell. Is that a buddypress issue (it takes about 2 hours),wordpress or godaddy?
