@mercime
ParticipantThat’s default behavior of multisite installations whether BuddyPress is installed or not.
There are a variety of ways to make a sitewide main navigation. One of the ways is http://wpmututorials.com/plugins/networkwide-menu/

ParticipantNo, this is the actual line define(‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 3 );
I should also note this is a subdirectory multisite install where the primary mu site is an established blog (mgx.com) and the buddypress subsite is in a virtual subdirectory.

Participant@djpaul templating is a bit confusing between bbPress (shipped with BP) for group forums and bbPress as separate plugin for a single forum. So if i understand you and the codex, i can change the bbPress template for group and/or standalone from a bbpress directory in the child theme, and in the case of the standalone option, using bbPress shortcodes ?

ParticipantThanks for the response @4dmedia. That works to disable the sidebar from the entire site, but I just wanted to disable it for my buddypress pages (activity, members, etc.). Is there any way I can do that?

Participant@r-a-y why do we need to create brand new gmail account and then activate the plugin, why we can’t use older account? I have one almost new (3 weeks old almost virgin account) and after setting up username and password and enabled IMAP I always get this warning:
BuddyPress Reply By Email cannot initialize. Please navigate to “BuddyPress > Reply By Email” to fill in the required fields and address the webhost warnings.
Error: Unable to connect to inbox – Can’t connect to gmail-imap.l.google.com,993: Connection timed out

Keymaster@Chouf1 The bbPress plugin does things slightly differently, and you can use a bbpress.php file for its main templates. This should be explained somewhere if it’s not already on the bbPress codex. 🙂
@davidkooo BuddyPress doesn’t work like bbPress in this way, yet. You’ll have to go deep into the BuddyPress templates in your (parent?) theme.

KeymasterGoing to close this topic in favour of https://buddypress.org/support/topic/submitting-replying-to-activity-post-return-page-is-empty/ to reduce duplication.
Short answer: we’re aware, and will fix.

KeymasterWe’re aware: the bug report is at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4566
I think we’ll release a 1.6.3 soon.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterBuddyPress doesn’t add, remove, or change user roles, so something else must have happened (did you update something else at the same time)?
If you deactivate and delete the plugin, all BuddyPress will NOT be removed. It will stay in your database.

Participant@mercime hey i followed your steps and replaced the right lines and i pasted the twenty ten stylesheet below in my theme’s style sheet.
First of all thanks for helping. The result now is that my bbpress page’s show a blanc page.
http://www.kleedkamerkratje.nl/teamleden/
If you like i can give you acces to the cms so you can see and maybe adjust the php files and the style sheet? Or do you have another solution?
that would be great because i’m trying hard but it still doesnt work! :/

KeymasterDo you literally have “$my_blog_id” in the define() — if so, what’s $my_blog_id set to? I’d have expected this to be a simple number rather than a php variable.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterI have done a BP 1.2.4 to BP 1.5.7(ish) and it worked fine. Interested to see how well a 1.1 to 1.6.2 goes. I’d suggest not worrying about stepping the BuddyPress upgrades, and doing something like:
1) Switch to a default WordPress theme (twentyten).
2) Disable all plugins.
3) Upgrade WordPress.
4) Add new version of BuddyPress, and activate it, and do that upgrade.
5) Update all other plugins, and reactivate them.
6) Switch back to original theme.
Make backups

@mercime
ParticipantOne where the main site is a social based one where users can interact etc, but then to have a method by which to give users their own personal blogs as well yet still be part of the main site.
@voopress That’s exactly what you’ll get in a single WP Multisite installation by default. Read the information on the page I linked to above. You do not need two multisite installations like you mentioned in first post above
