@mercime, thank you for the advice. And for starters, I appreciate all of the time you’ve taken for this one thus far… I did, in fact, forget to do that, though in doing so I haven’t been able to produce any positive results, except I DID GET TO actually use the cropping tool this time, so I definitely got a feeling of momentum.

Here are the results from that…

With default bp theme activated, an image can be uploaded and taken to the “cropping tool”. The cropping tool seemed to function as per normal, though once I make my cropping selection I get this error…

“There was a problem cropping your avatar, please try uploading it again”

I get this in all browsers, with all plugins deactivated (besides buddypress, of course – even the coming soon plugin).

I’m starting to knock around the word “befuddled” in my head, as I haven’t been able to find anything that seems to work either.

Thanks for the response @mercime. I probably should’ve mentioned that I already tried it with the ultimate maintenance mode plugin deactivated.

Also, I should note that this is the error I get in Chrome, while in safari a large file gets the ‘too big to upload’ message and a small files does get the upload, though after cropping and saving the uploaded image, I get the ‘there was a problem uploading your image’ message.

Sorry for not making all of this clear up front, truly a bad mistake on my part.

Any other thoughts as to what could be causing it?

@mercime Yes that is the very theme. I will go now and post it on the the authors forum. Thank you again!

@bphelp You’re welcome. Are you referring to this Simplify theme? https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/simplify If so, might I suggest posting at theme author’s support forum at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/simplify and ask if he/she could take the time to resolve it so that more people may be able use the theme with BuddyPress.

@mercime Yes you are right I switched to Twenty Twelve Theme and BP Default and cropping worked good. I suppose the Simplify Theme is a little buggy for BP 1.7 though I wished it was because it is a nice looking theme.
    Thanks for your help!

It could be a theme issue. Cropping is working with me using Chrome with either the BP Default Theme or the Twenty Twelve theme. Change to either of the themes I mentioned above and check if same issue occurs or if it is corrected.

Thank you! This was exactly my problem.

Did you find another plugin like firewall to use, or a fix for the plugin?

The avater cropping issue was fixed eventually by enqueueing the jcrop stylesheet in bp functions so for some reason your theme isn’t getting bp default functions file fully.

@parniaznet only saw this issue reported in older versions of WP/BP. What are your WP/BP versions?

If you’re on the latest WP/BP versions, then change to BP Default theme and check if avatar cropping issue is corrected.

Perhaps the image is too small and it just scales… Try to upload the big image (in px) and crop it.

The thing is that wp-crop-image has changed with the new editor in 3.5, now every web page showing how to do that trick is outdated..

This has been fixed in 1.6.3

Odd you are having issues, wouldn’t have thought it necessary as a new file but try a hard refresh of browser.

Are you on WordPress 3.5 as well?

I tried adding this CSS and it hasn’t fixed it for me. The crop function doesn’t show at all.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Crop handles fixed in BP 1.6.3 – out later today.

I’m having the same issue. Have just updated to WP3.5 and BP1.6.2.

On inspection it appears that the jcrop handles are absolute positioned but with no top/left/bottom/right values. As such they’re all appearing in the top left. I can right click and edit each one to add the values (ie SE = bottom 0 and right 0) and once done this fixes the issue.

Am I going to have to hard code these into my own style sheets?

Buddypress is installed on a folder “social” and not to the website root. Is this a problem?

Maybe…. BP is only a WP plugin. But if your WP is in the social folder too, there should not be the problem.
    Sorry can’t help more.
