ParticipantYou can hide your pride by amending the footer.php file
Though when you contribute something to open source that is used by over 20% of all websites imho it’s a reasonable presumption that many are indeed proud to use the software – hence the insert.
There are obviously some like your good self who would prefer to hide their pride.
Those who are using the software but are not proud to use it, well, they have a problem that will not be solved on this forum.

Participant@willandmae sorry, we prefer to keep the conversation here. As mentioned above, you can always delete or disable the throw-away account when the issue is resolved if not by me, by some other forum volunteer.

Participant@rameshkanakambr the Activity Plus plugin is specifically for the activity stream pages. Best place to get support for additional functions is at the plugin’s suppoprt forum at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/buddypress-activity-plus

ParticipantI don’t think the original intention was to display a live example of a forum topic view, it certainly shouldn’t be. I have adjusted that page entry to properly display the example shortcode rather than have the page actually parse the shortcode; however yes the link directly below directs you to the bbPress codex for examples of all the shortcodes available.

Keymaster@dennish The installation of bbPress that is packaged with BuddyPress contains a file at
buddypress/bp-forums/bb-config.php. When you attempt to access the bbPress installation directly as you describe, the bbPress bootstrap loads this bb-config.php file, and sends a 403 Forbidden header to the browser. Thus, it should NOT be the case that users are able to create accounts (or do anything else) on these pages. If you are finding otherwise, it could be because yourbuddypress/bp-forums/bb-config.phpfile is missing or corrupt. In the future, when you find what you believe are security issues in BP, please do not post them to the forums, but instead send an email to security@wordpress.org. Thanks.

I’ve logged this as a bug, I think we have got as far as we can support wise.

ParticipantAdd new page where, and for what? Remember this is BuddyPress help, an inability to add new pages is more a wordpress issue and would be better asked on their help forum.

ParticipantHi @mercime
Sorry to pester you, but is there a place I can log this officially as a bug? I saw you mention something called trac? is that where I can log it? I assume it should be logged in the bbpress trac since this is an issue with the bbpress widget?

Participantand additionally adding a member with “participant” role in the forums to a hidden group does grant them full access to the group’s forum however the widgets don’t show any of it’s recent topics.
honestly its really pretty messy and I’m kinda starting to lose hope in using group forums in buddypress 🙁

ParticipantHi @mercime
ok another small update 🙂 by deleting and re-creating the groups the topics no longer list in the bbpress recent topics widget if you are not a member of said group. This is one step closer! however…
bbpress moderators are still able to see the topics listed in the widget even though they are not members of said groups…. if they click on them it gives the expected “paged cannot be found”; but again they shouldn’t even be listed and click-able in the first place?

willandmae
ParticipantYou Are correct! When I deactivated this I got it confused with another plugin. The Group Extras is working fine. The culprit one was with bbcodes (30) for forums GD BBPRESS TOOLS. When I finally got to remove this one everything came back to working. I am sooo excited to have control over this website again. Hehe kind of scared to add anything else. But, there are a few desired needs still. Maybe you could suggest working plugins for me.
1) For the forums it would be nice to have breadcrumbs for easier navigation. It seems most breadcrumb plugins cannot keep up with buddypress groups and bbpress forums.
2) These were the things I liked for the forum tools
BBCode shortcodes support
Quote Reply or Topic
User signature with BBCode and HTML support3) Also, it seems the buddypress-default theme login in the right hand corner of the screen sidebar — isn’t working. If I try to login there it fails everytime. It then brings me to wordpress login and sucessfully login everytime. Any Suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

ParticipantHi @mercime
I appreciate all the help 🙂 .. however!.. (sorry!) I’ve updated to WordPress 3.7, Buddypress 1.8.1 and bbpress 2.4.1 and also ran the repair tool mentioned above and still hidden topics in group forums are showing in the bbpress recent topics and replies widgets, even to logged out people 🙁

@mercime
Participant@rigormortis_uk glad you were persistent and resolved the group forums issue 🙂
I’m running WordPress 3.5.1, bbpress 2.3.2 and buddypress 1.8.1
I suggest updating your bbPress installation to version 2.4.1 as I remember that issue was fixed in the bbPress Trac sometime after bbPress 2.3.2. Also, I recommend updating your WP installation to the latest version as well. Of course, please back up before updating.

danbp
Participanthi @vernonfowler,
i answered a similar question on the french bp support forum. No need for a third party plugin.
I embed a soundcloud track simply by copy/pasting the widget link witch is under the “share” button (the link containing an iframe tag) below the track. The track comes up on a standalone forum, but also on a group forum (on my test site). The track is not visible on the site activity because of the html tag restriction on activity. Can be solved by hooking into bp_activity_allowed_tags (not recommanded)
See here the result.

ParticipantHi @mercime , thanks for trying to help earlier, I’ve managed to fix all the issues I listed, I was stupid enough to enable the legacy forums component in buddypress along side my bbpress plugin; removing that fixed the group forums.. however! one problem remains.. the bbpress widgets!
I have a group setup with its own discussion forum which is set to hidden! the forum works fine but any topic posted in it is shown in the bbpress “recent topics” or “recent replies” widget which defeats the purpose of the group forum being hidden or private.
Is there a way to fix this? I’ve tried running the repair tools located at:
http://……/wp-admin/tools.php?page=bbp-repair
“Repair BuddyPress Group Forum relationships”However this says nothing has been repaired or changed and the problem persists.
I’m running WordPress 3.5.1, bbpress 2.3.2 and buddypress 1.8.1 (problem happened in 1.7 as well)

ParticipantI’ve got this problem as well, have a hidden group and while its content is not accessable, any the title of any topics created in the hidden/private forums are visable to everyone in the bbpress recent post widget, is there a fix for this?
I’ve tried running the forum relationship repair tool but this just says its updated 0 forums and the problem remains.

ParticipantPlease don’t open duplicate threads, you have one running and a response.
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/what-to-use-when-and-how/Closing this post.
N.B The reason for the response you got on your initial posting is that your asking for quite a lot of ‘functionality’ and some moves into developer expertise rather than providing explanations on how to do something, also requesting ‘detailed’ descriptions is a little off on a volunteer help forum, people will help and give advise where they can and to the depth they are able, but be patient s it is the weekend 🙂

Participanti changed the permissions on the file and the error is fixed; so back to the original issues.
Still can’t view topics in “Group Forums”. They show blank in the browser when clicking on them; but topics in the regular site-wide bbpress forums are fine. I’ve tried a different theme and disabling all plugins and still happens 🙁 also tried updating buddypress to the latest version without success.

Participant@rigormortis_uk have you checked what’s in your .htaccess file recently?
Have you tried backing up htaccess file, deleting it and then running Settings > Permalinks?October 25, 2013 at 5:17 pm #173366In reply to: What to use when, and HOW?
