    searched the forums to solve my problem

    But did you check through the codex where there is extensive documentation to help guide you through the template re-factoring required in step 3 of the process?.

    It would be much better if you could stop the template pack process, remove any files moved to your child theme and instead install the BP beta release of 1.7 along with it’s theme compatibility layer which will be a lot easier to cope with  as that will just require you adjusting styling where necessary.

    Thanks Chouf1. I’ve been overwhelmed with work and only had a chance to do more trouble shooting today. I followed your method for deactivating the forums but when I reactivated them the problem remained. I tried using the Default Buddy Press theme with no improvement. I also have a duplicate of the website running for development purposes that isn’t experiencing the issue. I don’t know too much about this sort of thing but could the database be corrupted? If so is there a safe way to remove the database information for the forums and get BuddyPress to treat it as a fresh installation?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Add this to bp-custom.php https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/customizing/bp-custom-php/
    and it will prevent non-logged in users from accessing BP pages.
    `
    /* Block BP Pages For Non-Logged In Visitors */
    function bp_block_pages() {
    global $bp;
    if ( bp_is_activity_component() || bp_is_groups_component() /*|| bbp_is_single_forum()*/ || bp_is_forums_component() || bp_is_blogs_component() || bp_is_page( BP_MEMBERS_SLUG ) ) {
    // add components to be blocked to non-logged in visitors
    if(!is_user_logged_in()) {
    wp_redirect( get_option(‘siteurl’) . ‘/register’ );
    } // Change /register to the page you want non-logged in visitors directed to
    }
    }
    add_filter(‘get_header’,’bp_block_pages’,1);
    /* End BP Blocked Pages */
    /* Remove RSS Feeds */
    function bp_remove_feeds() {
    remove_action( ‘bp_actions’, ‘bp_activity_action_sitewide_feed’, 3 );

    Hi Thanks Brajesh,

    found the settings buddypress tab and clicked through. but no configuration wizard to speak off
    all i see are the tabs across saying – components (with 10 active, and 2 must use), pages, settings and forums (where i installed the configure site wide forums). . checked again in the wordpress site, and still buddy press hasn’t shown up. .

    Should i be installing buddypress 1.7 perhaps?

    Maybe I am asking the question the wrong way since I have not received an answer. A search on our BP site does not return any results. If I do a search for “progress reports” search returns “No posts found. Try a different search?” when I know one of the three forums we have is called Progress Reports. Please help!!

    Curious if I’m phrasing my questions wrong? I’m new to this forum and I notice my first three posts have received zero replies.

    Is it because I”m Australian? 🙂

    @unsalkorkmaz please note that I have edited one of your posts above. No personal remarks/attacks are allowed in this forum.

    I appreciate that you want to give users as many features as possible with your theme and I understand your frustration. Having said that, the WP Theme Review Team Admin already noted which he considered plugin territory starting here https://lists.wordpress.org/pipermail/theme-reviewers/2013-March/012183.html and more so for the TinyMCE buttons later on the thread.

    I supported you in the Author URL in the same thread. While I don’t agree with the TRT Admins 100% of the time, I support them 100% in the above-mentioned plugin-territory discussion. My unsolicited suggestion is to remove the items listed above which are considered plugin territory from your theme and create a plugin specifically for the theme e.g. Firmalite Theme Booster or Firmalite Add-ons or whatever you want. Further suggest submitting a revised theme while your theme is still up in the review queue.

    Firmalite is the 13th in theme review queue as I write this. We’ve cleared many of the backlogs the past week and there are reviewers doing some reviews this week. Know that all of the reviewers are volunteers and also know that way sometime ago the waiting time for a review was 3-4 months.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Hi, @shanebp

    Oh no, not all this is happening in the one customised plugin. I was simply describing what appears to be happening in the system as a whole when you hit the Submit button in the customised post. This thing is one tortured mass of plugins. 🙁

    The Custom post page is generated by Gravity Forms. This is the plugin that handles creating a post & saving it.

    The Add-a-Post-to-Activity-Stream-so-it-sends-an-Email-Like-an-Update is provided by a custom plugin that extends the functionality of BuddyPress Group Email Subscription.

    It just seems that the timing’s out a bit.

    If I can make the postmeta handling occur before the post is added to the Activity Stream, then all will be well, as my own trivial addition to this will be fine.

    I’ll take a look at wp_mail. I thought that Buddypress may override what happens in there.

    Thanks for that & apologies for posting in the wrong part of the forum. Just noticed that.

    @benracicot all are encouraged to use bbPress plugin for sitewide and/or group forums see instructions at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

    NVM.

    I had to turn off the old groups in the components and then make a new group.

    So far everything is working as intended, just not as lazy as I wanted. < Joke

    Thanks Hugo! I woke up today realizing that I’m looking for the template hierarchy. Just like BBPress has:
    ‘plugin-bbpress.php’,
    ‘bbpress.php’,
    ‘forums.php’,
    ‘forum.php’,
    ‘generic.php’,
    ‘page.php’
    Read that doc here.

    Could I create a ‘bpress.php’ which will overrule BuddyPress’ usage of page.php as the template for members, groups and activity pages?

    I’ve been reading these forums for weeks trying to find a solution to all the spam registrations I’m getting on my site. Keep in mind that I haven’t opened it to the public yet. It is closed and the registrations are closed, but still they are getting in and creating accounts. I decided to do some troubleshooting to see where they are getting in and this is what I found out so far:
    1. When I close registration still they get in and create member accounts and Groups in which they inject their spam. 2. I started to turn off some of the buddypress features one at a time, such as the forums and the groups, and the registrations stopped. It’s been several days without spam registrations. I turned on open registrations and still there’s no registration. I turned on Forums and now they are coming back.
    Conclusion: they must be getting through the forum, since I understand, uses a version of BBPress. Now I have to get a solution to protect the forums and groups if I want these features on our sites.
    any solutions out there?

    >>users cannot communicate with, see each other, or even know other users exist). Only the admin will have the privilege of viewing profiles or commenting on users’ blog posts.

    @bg01
    As I see it, you don’t even need BuddyPress especially with the configuration you posted above.
    – Just create a network (go multisite)
    – allow students to create own blogs or create the blogs yourself and add student/user per blog
    – make all sites private (Super Admin can see anything and everything)
    – post comment on each student’s blog post.
    If you have any issues with your multisite installation, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite

    Alternatively, you can have one single WP site. Make it private, no feeds. Set access of all posts in front end and back end to Site Admin and respective post Author in custom WP theme. Only Site Admin can post comment in all posts.
    If you have any issues, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

    there should be more efforts like “CBOX”

    You really need to explain a remark like that. What are you wanting provided for you? CBOX is a theme development project based on the Infinity framework. It has entailed a huge number of hours, is backed by a number of developers, and also as far as I’m aware funded, so the fact it’s then returned as openly available for anyone to use is a bonus, but  do not expect that to be the norm it’s an exception.

    Your bullet points are understandable but not necessarily possible to do. Define work well? who writes those review and tests the plugins?

    Better forum responses? how do we achieve this then? Bear in mind a forum such as this  and many others are a volunteer effort, those of us that do answer questions do so at the expense of our free time even though for most developers there is  in reality no such animal as free time, again helping out on the forum is one way to help improve it as is contributing to the Codex as I mentioned before.

    – So yes no one would question things can always be improved and it’s fine to suggest so  but the real answer is get involved  help make that improvement – it’s a community driven effort.

    And on that note the thread does start to repeat itself so lets draw a line under things!

    thank you for the answer. I do understand what you’re advising. The theme has a .pot file that i translated to .po and .mo files. WP is running on the same language. The language is set in wp-config file. It’s a single site installation.
    But i still have those 4 words in English on dashboard. Avtivity, Groups, Members and Forums. Interestingly, when i change the theme to WP default theme, they are in translated version. But in that case, those words are not on the dashboard. If i activate the BP theme, they appear on the dashboard and back to English. If i manually insert the translation for those words, where they can be found? I guess that would be a file which is responsible for dashboard, right?

    First.. let me say.. I highly appreciate everyones efforts..

    — A paid plugin doesnt guarantee non-breakage…

    putting aside the conversation of “hey its free stop complaining” — there should be more efforts like “CBOX” and/or a better ranking system that addresses:

    1) Does this plugin work well
    2) What are the best plugins that work to do xyz..
    3) A better response to forum questions/inquiry..

    again.. I highly respect everyone here.. @modemlooper is a kick ass developer and wish i can afford his services…

    — But I do think theres gotta be a recognition that… BP & the BP Plugin forums support can use improvement..

    how could i set up BuddyPress so that everyone is contributing to one massive pool of content? should i use forums?

    Ok, new default installation following the latest instructions for for bbPress 2.3 beta 2 and BuddyPress 1.7 beta 1 to create sitewide forums.

    I guess the only issue I have is one of understanding the logic behind accessing the Forums or Group sections from the main menu as opposed to the admin bar menu or BuddyPress menus (under the avatar).

    Main menu takes the user to domainname/forums or domainname/groups
    (Here you can create, see listing of Forums etc, create a topic in these Forums.

    Whereas the admin bar links to domainname/members/username/forums/ or domainname/members/username/groups does not display Forum list – does not allow for creating new topics. Groups appear to work the same way.

    So, from within the “BuddyPress” menuing (by this I mean the admin bar dropdown and/or the Buddypress menus underneath the user’s avatar) the Forum and Groups menu do little except allow you to see topics that you have contributed to.

    The clean install is at:
    http://bp.youpix.org

    Is what I have described the way BuddyPress Forums and Groups are supposed to work or is there some configuration error on my part?

    thx
