Participant@pdillon809 the video was for bbPress 2.2+ and BuddyPress 1.6.1+
Follow the latest instructions for for bbPress 2.3 beta 2 and BuddyPress 1.7 beta 1 to create group and/or sitewide forums at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

@mercime
Participant@homeschoolmommy 1st thing. Your BlogsMU theme is version 1.3.5 and the latest is version 1.3.7
2nd, check bb-config.php at the root of your WP install, i.e., where you’d find your wp-config.php file. Check if DB configurations in bb-config.php is the same as DB info in wp-config.php file
3rd, have you tried changing to BP Default theme at a time when visitor levels are low?

ParticipantHugo, I asked him directly cause he has been one of the only really helpful people in the forum – to me at least.
The last thread about the two plugins was probably one of the best discussions I’ve heard on buddypress. It was two people debating on the future of BP Media, which is essentially the future of BP. The sad part is that the conversation was (censored) stopped.
Media does not have to be MS only as long as WordPress can contain BP avatars I am sure there is a solution for both. If relationships can be assigned by specifying friend, colleague or family – then assign values to who can see what then it should be doable.
djpaul, I originally titled the post what you retitled it as, however realized “Pink elephant” is exactly what this should be titled. And I would actually have preferred that you left the title as such, instead of censoring my post.

com·mu·ni·ty [kuh-myoo-ni-tee]
1.
a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.
4.
a group of associated nations sharing common interests or a common heritage: the community of Western Europe.
<<<- ooh look a picture, I think buddypress just got a little colorful. JK5.
Ecclesiastical . a group of men or women leading a common life according to a rule.
<<<- pictures add a little life! Thats all I am saying – there needs to be a solution addressed by BP. Because you cannot have a community without colorful interaction.***************************************************
How many communities have you been to where you have no idea what the other people are like. Hence the need for photos, videos and human interaction. I am just trying to get some focus on what will make these community sites more effective.

@modemlooper, you wouldn't happen to have any plans on creating something similar to what you mentioned above – would you? Because I really cannot see using the heavily coded plugins that are out there.March 2, 2013 at 2:33 pm #154877In reply to: [Resolved] BuddyPress.org issue…

Participant@daronna I assume that you’re on a Windows server thus trying to get pretty permalinks working as required by BuddyPress by appending /index.php. That method is not going to work with BuddyPress.
I suggest deactivating BuddyPress first. Then check out the other methods for pretty permalinks without /index.php on Windows server:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Permalinks_without_mod_rewrite
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/developer-docs/iis7-web-config/If you still have issues with pretty permalinks, do post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
Only activate BuddyPress after the issue is resolved.

Participant@jimchester Jim as there is very little detail to go on and as @mercime mentions the link is not valid the best thing to do is start confirming a few things by way of troubleshooting and feeding back information that can be useful.
First thing I would do is deactivate BuddyPress, & any plugins you have activated, revert back to your basic WP installation and establish if that works correctly, if it doesn’t then this may point to a general issue with the main installation and that is best looked into on the WP support forums, if it does work correctly then try reactivating BP – but please only with the default BP theme no custom themes as they are often main culprits in problems – now see if things are any different, try and note as much detail about problems and report back on this thread.

@mercime
ParticipantI’ve installed BuddyPress but there’s no option for Admin to create forums or groups.
@feleciarose in BP Default theme, the groups create button shows up beside the title of Groups Directory page. As admin, you could always just append “create” to the groups slug. For example, http://example.com/groups/create and you’d get the group creation panel. As for forum creation, which forums are you referrring to – sitewide or group forums?
I assume you also posted at Studiopress forums regarding this issue.

On the top left side there is Log In button. In my theme there are also Activity, Groups, Members and Forums button. They are found the theme’s po file but still in English on the front page. What could be reason?

ParticipantIf you’re only using group forums, there is nothing to uninstall. First you deactivate the forum in the group admin and second, you deactivate the forum component in BP settings. Done !
Your issue could be theme dependend. Have you tested with bp-default ?
February 28, 2013 at 11:47 pm #154761In reply to: BuddyBar Links Wrong?
danbpfr
ParticipantNo this is the normal behaviour. The ToolBar top right menus are “Your Account” access menus.
Before BP integrates the WP ToolBar, the plugin had is own toolbar (ak buddybar). On this “old” bar, those menus where all under a label “your account”, on the left. Since this bar is disabled, the account access menu was migrated at this place.
Global activity or global group access or forums buttons are all on the menubar. (if your theme use a menubar !)

Jon Henwood
ParticipantHi
Can make a plugin for Buddypress so that the forum sends private messages to group users. This will then cause the notification system to pick up the message and show it in the grey WordPress/Buddypress notification bar. Your forum notification problem solved for only £15.
Let me know if you are interested and we will build it

ParticipantHi does anyone know if uninstalling the forums and then reinstalling them would work (or is possible)? I assume that I’d have to fully uninstall them?
Any advice on how to proceed here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

ParticipantThere is a error on the activity page
Warning: Illegal string offset ‘infobartext’ in x/x/x/x/ProudConservative/wp-content/themes/Tersus/lib/adm/inc/meta_config.php on line 29This is not a big deal. It shows until some text is put in its place.
have you set your permalinks, as recommanded, to something other as default path ?
Yes
Have you old pages in the trash with identical names as the online pages ? If yes delete them definely ?
Yes. There are no duplicate pages
Are all pages appering on the BP settings page tab ?
Yes.
Each BP option you use should have is own page. (xprofile, forums, etc) Is this the case ?
Yes. I create buddypress sites all the time and have never had this issue before. I’m sure it’s a minor thing somewhere, and I’m just unable to find it. I was having issues with products on this site before and found out the website owner was making his own slugs and using underscores instead of dashes. Once that was repaired, all was fine with products.
It’s frustrating when clients try to “help” while I am working on the site, but some are very hands on, if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, I actually tried a new install and had the same problem. So, I probably just imported the problem.
I will double-check the profile page settings and see if this repairs anything. Thanks for your time and I will let you know.

ParticipantWhat this forum? Please be clear and accurateand provide a little detail to your post otherwise you will get little response! ‘Forums’ is essentially a bbPress issue, but yes you can do whatever you like in terms of styling – is the short answer
