ParticipantNice work. I’m very curious what your bbPress styling looks like, but I couldn’t find a link to a forum in any of your example sites.

ParticipantI think you are correct, there’s 530 users now.
Some of them have bot in the email name and many are from the same domain.
What’s interesting is that the default forum role is being assigned to these users but not others and these users have their name field filled out whereas others don’t.
What is the point of signing up for an account but then not confirming it to then spam the forum?

Participanthave you tested this on a vanilla WP BP install
If it helps at all I got the times working using the BBpress forum running alongside BuddyPress, But I’m still having the same issues that you posted regarding the BuddyPress Activity times.

ParticipantNot yet. Am living with this on one Forum at the moment and will see if it happens on the next. It may have been a corruption of some kind when the Forum was created due to loss of connection…? Anyway, the second post on the Forum correctly displays the # posts etc but oddly the sub-deck to the Forum still shows ‘0’ posts…

Participant@kebecweb as @mitesh-patel mentioned above, please do not post admin credentials in public forums and the issue is the username with space. I only asked for testuser account to see the issue. I have deleted the info you posted above and I strongly recommend that you change admin credentials in your site as well right now.

Participant@kebecweb the problem seems to be the ‘space’ in the login name (userID). I checked all other users have userID without space, hence the problem is specific to this profile only. I may be wrong, but this doubt needs to be eliminated first.
And it’s not good to post admin user credentials on public forums.
January 30, 2013 at 3:47 pm #152061In reply to: Accepting groups
@mercime
ParticipantOther than creating a plugin for that, the simplest/cleanest alternative is to create a form where members can request for a group OR create forum specific for such requests. You can create the group, and promote the one who requested for the group as Group Admin.

ParticipantI am getting the same problem. It seems a bug, but I don’t know how to report it correctly.
I am on latest versions of wp, bp and bbp (3.5.1, 1.6.4 & 2.2.4 respectively), developing locally using MAMP.The problem is essentially this.
When wordpress is installed with buddypress and bbpress (sitewide forums with group forums enabled for buddypress), if one hovers on “Howdy” menu to access forums quick-links, the forums menu offers 6 links (when you hover on “forums” quick-link), with 4 unique and 2 (“Topics Started” and “Favorite Topics”) duplicates. However, contrary to what @rmohney observed, even if group-forums are turned off, the problem (duplicate quick-links) persist(s).January 30, 2013 at 1:47 am #152028peripatew
Participant@modernlooper Thanks for the reply. When I’m looking at the forum/index.php, I’m not seeing a duplicate content area: https://gist.github.com/4669889 Is there something I’m missing there?
And in reference to the CSS additions, what’s the proper location for adding in custom bits?
Thanks again for your patience!

ModeratorI totally understand wanting a place to put the code snippets that can answer those repetitive forum topics.
The best way is to write a topic in the Creating and Extending forum with title that says what code snippet does and then link to it from the codex. This will allow a discussion to begin on that hack/trick/tip and anyone can include fixes or better ways.
Then it’s easy to respond to those repetitive topics by linking to the same page in the codex. I will clarify this on the codex tips/tricks page.

Participantok, message received.
So feel free to delete or move the tips i added today. š
But if it’s not thatĀ important, can i suggest to remove the whole tips, tricks and code snippet page from the Codex ?
Even if i’m sure most of the user prefer to go to the Codex first, because it’s the naturally “my issue answer place to be” !Or create a dedicated, moderated and well categorized blog for such stuff, because at least it’s annoying to get theĀ same daily issues querying answers on the support forum.
Issues, as you know,Ā are rarely accompanied with the user’s configuration information. So it’s anyway difficult to help in such case. With or without official, uptodated informations, tips or whatever.
January 29, 2013 at 7:02 pm #152012In reply to: Reduce size of Photos on Activity page.
@mercime
ParticipantI thought the information I give on the version of the scripts, would do.
Not really. There are many images in the activity stream including avatars, it would be hard to keep guessing what the issue is. If you use Firefox or Chrome, just right click > Inspect Element on the image uploaded by u-forums and you’ll see the HTML tag surrounding that image e.g. div class=”u-forum-image” (guess only) and add something like this to your theme’s style.css file .
`div.u-forum-image {
width: 350px;
height: auto;
}`January 29, 2013 at 6:51 pm #152009In reply to: Error in creating topic
@mercime
Participant@heidilf it has been a long time since I saw this error reported in BP forums. Btw, you only have group forums installed in synergycommons.net per my recent check. Looking back at old reports, following check/action could help you (backup DB before making any changes, just in case):
1. For group forums, a bb-config.php file should have been created at the root of your WP install, the same level where wp-config.php is. If you moved your installation from another server, make sure that you updated the DB information in your bb-config.php file as well.
2. Check if 7 xxx_bb_xxx tables were created in your database see https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#bbpress-forums-tables-in-database
3. You might have to make some DB changes via phpMyAdmin re forum ID http://buddydev.com/support/forums/topic/error-when-creating-topics/ and http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/buddypress-groupforums-not-working

ParticipantThe theme I’m using is updated for WP 3.5 (which I am using) and BP 1.6.1 (which I reinstalled). I also tried switching to the BP-Default theme and still get the same error message, āThere was an error when creating the topic.ā when trying to create a group forum topic. Any other suggestions?

ParticipantOh I solved this with, modified the topic.php. Don’t mind editing the core files.:
`
echo date (‘M d, Y, g:i a ‘, strtotime(bp_get_the_topic_post_time_since()));
`Thanks for the help Chouf1!

ParticipantHey Chouf1,
thank you for replying, this code works partially, it only get the LAST topic replied post date and time and display all the same date and time throughout the rest of the replies for that topic. Any helps? Thanks again.
`function my_topic_date_ouput () {
global $forum_template;
echo date (‘M d, Y, g:i a ‘, strtotime($forum_template->topic->topic_time));}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_time_since’, ‘my_topic_date_ouput’ );`January 29, 2013 at 1:52 pm #151986In reply to: [Resolved] Group Forum display time

Participanthi @omgbud,
if BP 1.6.x, you can add this to your theme’s functions.php
This will change the date format of each group forum topic`function my_topic_date_ouput () {`
global $forum_template;
echo date (‘M d, YĀ ‘, strtotime($forum_template->topic->topic_time));}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_time_since’, ‘my_topic_date_ouput’ );For for changing the freshness date/time, use this one
<code>function my_topic_freshness_ouput () {
global $forum_template;
echo date (‘d/m/Y H:iĀ ‘, strtotime($forum_template->topic->topic_time));
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_time_since_last_post’, ‘my_topic_freshness_ouput’ ); </code>Take care with quotes (must be single quotes)Ā when copy/pasting from here

@mercime
Participant@intimez the Codex page has been updated. Sorry for the confusion. Basically, you install bbPress via Plugins > Add New https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#c-set-up-sitewide-forums-only

ParticipantOkay thanks alot anyway.
One final question.
I’m thinking about completely tearing down the whole BP section of my site and starting from scratch again with 1.6.2 since it works on my test site.What is the best way to kill everything and start from scratch. The last time I tried that it appeared that some files were not deleted when I re-installed thru wp-admin because it still had the Groups/Forums/Avatars etc. basically nothing changed.
Should I delete BP and all related plugins thru wp-admin dashboard first and then go in the backend thru cpanel to ensure everything is gone.
Any insight would be helpful.
Thank again ubernaut you’ve been great!
