ParticipantHello Ben,
Thank you for the insight given.
I also await advice on how to be able to continue using the “BuddyPress Registration Options” plugin – it is currently disabled because it was not allowing the public to access/read the groups/forums of the site.
Thanks again.

Participantanything which is publicly visible is also by definition indexable. Even with no follow and no index meta information embedded on the page there is no guarantee you won’t be indexed.

ParticipantThanks. So, after unserializing data in my OPTIONS table, user_roles, I find, among other data, the settings of “keymaster” and “member” and “moderator” and (not) wordpress “subscriber” and a lot of settings like this:
`[moderate] => 1
[participate] => 1
[keep_gate] => 1
[import_export] => 1
[recount] => 1
[manage_options] => 1
[manage_themes] => 1
[manage_plugins] => 1
[edit_users] => 1
[manage_tags] => 1
[edit_others_favorites] => 1
[manage_forums] => 1
[delete_forums] => 1
[delete_topics] => 1
[close_topics] => 1
`All this has to be Buddypress ghosts inside the user role row in the different “options” databases. I guess it is impossible to remove all these data… but… do they have any effect upon my multisite performance, or do they have any effect on my users (multisite blog owners) roles in the multisite?
I am asking because something is messing up my multisites different blogs comment settings.

ParticipantHi,
forget languages in a first time and set up your WP to a network.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_NetworkThen install BP with group forums activated
Then create a group for each language you wantThis is the most simple solution i guess. The’re probably others. 😉

ParticipantYou’re right! I tried it again and it didn’t show up! Not even for me! What’s strange is I had it set to private, then checked it again and it was listed as public, so I switched it back again :/
So, aside from making the activity feed the main page issue – everything else seems to be resolved at this point.
I am getting another error: when I post a comment on a forum discussion, I get this error message:
Page not found
We’re sorry, but we can’t find the page that you’re looking for. Perhaps searching will help.When I re-load the forum discussion, it resolves it. Any idea how to fix it?

ParticipantHello Ben,
Thank you for the response.
With the settings I made, the groups and forums are now publicly accessible on the internet, and may also get indexed with time.
Request you to suggest an alternative arrangement.

ParticipantHugo, thank you for pointing that out. I was not aware of your forum protocol, I apologize. I should have used italics? I want to stress my point, but not shout 🙂
I have seen many posts here that have gone unanswered regarding the very same issues I’m having so I got the impression that patience wasn’t leading to any answers. I don’t mind being patient, I just really would like answers one way or another – it can be fixed or it can’t. With that information, then I can make a decision on whether I can use Buddypress/bbPress combo or not and move ahead.
Here is what I still need help with:
1. How to make the Activity page the static Home page and not get the 404 error when posting. Paul said this is fixed in the next release of Buddypress. Does anyone know when that release is and is there a workaround in the meantime that someone can walk me through?
2. Buddypress offers options to make a group ”Private” or “Hidden”
Both options claim: “Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.”
This is not true – everything I post in the “Hidden” group I created shows up in the public activity feed to a test user I created who is not a member of that group. I need to be able to offer the secure knowledge of privacy in these groups to our users. Is there a way to truly make this information private and not be mortified when one of my users finds their private information on a google search?
Paul’s answer is unclear to me: “I am not aware of any bugs with your second issue; if the current user is a member of that private group, they have access to see its activity items on any page on your site.”
3. I would like to make the whole site private – accessible only after registration. I would like people to have to register and their registration be approved by me before gaining access to the site. Is this possible?
Thank you for any help.

ParticipantThe page doesn’t exist because activity comments are fired on the same page by an ajaxified comment form.
Have you perhaps some pages in the trash box ? If yes you must delete them completely. This can cause many side effects on the existing pages.
Deactivate the rrs multi importer plugin
Have you installed group forums OR the bbPress plugin ? There is probably a problem with the page name “forum” who interact also with existing BP pages.

Participant@tarkham Not for nothing, but you’re also using the Vantage theme, which is still fairly buggy as I’m sure you already know. If you need help with Vantage, let me know, as I’ve been chopping it up and cleaning up some of the code for one of my own installs of the theme. You can find me on their forum and PM me at VegasKev
@jjj John, you were completely right about my comments not being very helpful in my last post on this thread. I should have taken notes when I started seeing the bugs I saw in 1.7 back then, but I was all hopped up on redbull and was working on minimal sleep. That is my fault entirely. My apologies.

ParticipantHello,
This problem was solved, as follows:
1. Disable “BuddyPress Registration Options” plugin.
2. In Settings >> General >> New User Default Role, set to “Blocked”, or some appropriate value to make spam registration difficult.Thanks to Hugo for pointing to the solution.

ParticipantHi @intimez,
you have 2 possibilities to use bbPress. As group forums, this is intended in buddypress standard install, or as standalone forum., aka sitewide forum, with the complete bbPress plugin. The bbPress part shipped with BP is not exactly working as the plugin.
In the first case, you may use the install wizard of BP. Activate “discussion forums” and create the appropriate page on the “pages” tab. Done ! You have to create first a group, and from ithin the group admin you can then activate a group forum.
In the second case, don’t check “discussion forums” and install the bbPress plugin. Once installed, a “forum” menu appears on the left in the dashboard. Go to the forum settings page and do your settings.
If you want to use ONLY a sitewide forum, you can let all the forum settings by default.
If you want to use the group forums AND a sitewide forum, witch is not recommended because confusing for your members probably, you have to take care to one thing.
The “forum base name” in the forum settings of the plugin. By default this name is “forums”. But this base name is also used by the group forums, so it wouldn’t work for both. In fact, this name is reserved for BP only.
So if you want both forum types, CHANGE OBLIGATORY the base name to something other as forum or forums, and that’s it !

ParticipantHi @tombot86,
of course ! You can use syntaxhighlighter evolved plugin.
Because BP is stripping out some html in posts replies, you have to modify a line in
bp-forums-template.php:1167 (or near these line)
Replace by this:
<code>`return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_content’, wp_specialchars_decode( $topic_template->post->post_text, ENT_QUOTES ) );`</code>And in your child theme functions.php, add this:
<code>`remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_content’, ‘bp_forums_filter_kses’, 1 );
remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_content’, ‘wptexturize’ );`</copy>From now you can use the different shortcodes provided by the plugin to insert code snippets into your group forums posts.
Take care of quotes and backsticks by copy/pasting from here.
Here’s an example of what you will see on BP 1.6.2 MS/ WP 3.5

ParticipantI mean’t tested with WP and BP default theme and only BP pluigin activated. Not necessary a new install…
FYI, TF themes are not all performant at least…. and it is very very possible that the error comes from your theme or a conflict with a plugin.
Anyway,this couldn’t come from WP or BP, because this forum would be full of your same question. And you’re the only one here to claim about this… So, the truth is elsewhere ! 😀
