    Thanks @chouf1

    I’ve finished moving the group forums to bbpress 2.x now so I don’t think it is required but it is great ot have this response here for future googlers.

    Hi,

    i had the same request. And finally built a plugin based on this one.

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-topic-mover/

    works now with 1.6.1 and WP 3.4.2

    Prior to bbPress 2, BuddyPress used bbPress 1 — which wasn’t a plugin — and so had its own integration for it. The Discussion Forums page and Forums component are some of the legacy settings for that. Going forward, 1) Disable the Forums component in BuddyPress, and 2) Install the bbPress plugin.

    Hi Kevin,

    I wish I could recommend Salutation theme but alas I cannot.

    I am very comfortable with WordPress and have been designing websites from purchased themes for several years now and this was my first venture into the world of forums.

    The theme itself looks awesome – the main problem is the work I had to do to get the theme looking exactly like the demo – when first installed, Salutation does not communicate cleanly with WordPress so it comes out jumbled with static blocks all over the place. The work I had to put to figure out how to get it to look exactly like the demo alone was astronomical (and the demo was why I bought it).

    The support available was very basic. I would ask a lot of questions and be given half an answer – frustrating and very time-consuming. I could not figure out how to work it out myself – a very unintuitive theme.

    The videos are excellent and I did find some help there but here I sit… 50+ hours later with a beautiful website that does not work because I can’t get Buddypress to play nicely with Saluation… Hence, my request here for some professional assistance.

    Hope this helps, Kevin!

    beingblissful,

    I have been waiting on a response for several days myself. I am about to invest in the Salutation theme and use it on a new site I am launching. But, like you, I really want to utilize forums. If you are having trouble, it does not bode well for me either.

    Other than the forums not working, what do you think of the salutation theme?

    Hi there!

    I need some professional support.

    I have put 50 + hours into buddypress and the current theme I am using for a new website (Salutation) and have come to the end of my tether.

    I cannot get this working myself. (the website is http://www.tigressyogateachers.com)

    Can you please point me in the direction for where I can find some professional help? All of the problems are centred around getting the forum working correctly and someone who is familiar with Buddypress will certainly be able to help me – quite easily I imagine!

    Thank you so much and I’m looking forward to your response as soon as possible!

    Yep. Setting the correct prefix fixed things.

    Can I suggest we update the guide to include a note to ‘check your bp-config.php file to confirm the table prefix’

    Cheers,

    Dane

    I’ve worked through the guide but am still having some issues. I’m doing some troubleshooting now and hopefully will get things working but I’ll post my issues here in case anyone has any good tips.

    1. Group forums are not appearing in the Dashboard forum screen (wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=forum) I would have expected them to appear here after the import.
    2. Previous group forums do not appear to be linked to the group any longer. The forum tab for the group simply says ‘The group does not have any forums’. Reactivating the old buddypress discussion component resolves this.

    Troubleshooting so far …
    After some digging around I discovered that the buddypress bbconfig.php file has a different table prefix set for the forums. Suspect that the forums didn’t actually import because wp_bb wasn’t used.

    Where is the new codex? When I click on “Documentation” in the header, I also get a 500 error.

    On the new codex them, there is a search form in the right sidebar.

    Hi thank you for this.

    When I click on the first link (the codex) I get a 500 error.

    The buddypress profile menu looks very promising. I will be installing that.

    The other question I had is if there is a search function for the FAQ/Support? I can’t find one.

    Thank you again.

    @paintermommy did you ever get this to work with the wishlist plugin? Are your forums private and only for paid members?

    I just tried a completely fresh install with the default WordPress theme and then the default BuddyPress theme. It is still not working. In this install, I can’t even get the Forums menu to show up on the menu bar.

    This is getting more than a little frustrating. I am really trying to understand this process, but it is thus far not intuitive, nor do the menus and setup options look like they do in the documentation.

    I cannot get the link to open in Chrome. But it does open in IE. I have seen those instructions before. But in step 4 the screen capture shows 3 options under bbPress. It shows “Settings”, “Deactivate” and “Edit”. I do not have those options. I have “Network Deactivate” and “Edit”.

    I tried clicking on the link but the link not working. I get the following message:

    The website encountered an error while retrieving https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

    Nevermind, I figured it out. Apparently those 16 files that you’re supposed to change in your template became unchanged and I had to recopy them back over again.

    Am I allowed to bump? I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Buddypress and I’m so mixed up and turned around now, any hints or help would be SO incredibly appreciated! I was so pleased with getting it set up and have no idea what I must have done…..

    If you’re using bbPress 2.2.2 and BuddyPress, the preferred method going forward is to disable the “Discussion Forums” component in BuddyPress and use bbPress to handle group forums.

    Try reading this guide:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/

    And let us know if you have any questions or if the guide isn’t clear.

    Yes.
    I think I found my problem. I have buddypress installed and bbpress 2.2. I went to the buddypress settings and removed the check mark for the discussions forums. This removed the extra Topic Started and Favorite Topics from the menu. I’m not sure if I have things set up right. Kind of winging it and learning as I go.

    hmmn… it still works for me but only for the activity feed ( excluding the ` lines which weren’t converted to the new bp forum format ). It used to work for members as well.

    To disable all feeds I just tried the following from http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/33072/how-to-remove-feeds-from-wordpress-totally
    :

    /**
    * disable feed
    */
    function fb_disable_feed() {
    wp_die( __('No feed available,please visit our homepage!') );
    }
    add_action('do_feed', 'fb_disable_feed', 1);
    add_action('do_feed_rdf', 'fb_disable_feed', 1);
    add_action('do_feed_rss', 'fb_disable_feed', 1);
    add_action('do_feed_rss2', 'fb_disable_feed', 1);
    add_action('do_feed_atom', 'fb_disable_feed', 1);

    Which worked for me to disable All feeds to everyone. It’s a bit unsubtle but does plug the security hole….

    @ibnusaheed

    Thanks for the link – i’ve installed it and it looks great. I’ve got a few question on the functionality , but will ask them at the github support πŸ˜€

    Certainly provides some of the functionality I am looking for.

    @monkfish13 You can checkout BuddyPress Media plugin here

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-media/

    This plugin is actively updated so you may love this. Note that this is different from bp media plugin that @mercime has shared just above. It has features like multiple file upload, album support and more. You can also check the demo page here.

    http://demo.rtcamp.com/buddypress-media/

    As far as I know, currently there is no plan for BuddyPress to integrate multimedia sharing as core feature.
