    i have a spam problem in my forums section and Wordfence, which i have installed, suggested my problem maybe this. their words:
    “You will need to ask the BuddyPress plugin authors for current best recommendations if they are recommending very outdated information on their support page to prevent spam registrations.”
    is this true and if so what is the solution? how do i stop this spam?

    Hi guys,

    I’m trying to add some content after the “user nicename” but I’m not able to do it. I achieve with “mentioname” with a forum tweak using this filter:

    add_action( 'bp_get_displayed_user_mentionname', 'yzc_add_xprofile_field_data_in_profile_header' );

    But I’m not able to do it with “user nicename” (I tried with bp_get_displayed_user_nicename and any other posible combination):

    What I need to filter

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi, I have discovered that bbPress forum moderators can access another user’s BuddyPress Email & Password page by going to URL/members/USERNAME/settings/ revealing the user’s email address.

    How can we block access to this page to protect user’s privacy?

    Thank you, Sam

    I am getting new forum sign ups that I am wondering if they are bots or something as they have what looks like a legitimate email address but their name is just random letters. I have emailed a few of these email addresses to see if I get a response but no one seems to be home any ideas how to stop this as I have decided they are potential spammers and delete them as they sign up.

    I have added this in bp-custom.php but the code throws error on screen:

    And when I have added it to wp-config. Now it shows members page as default but still not the forum (discussion) even the code says “forum”.

    Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

    This works, in wp-config.php or bp-custom.php,
    define( 'BP_GROUPS_DEFAULT_EXTENSION', 'forum' );

    Currently n the groups activity feed(wall) is the default landing tab for all users. I want to change t to the forum so everyone sees the discussion topics as soon as they land on groups. I have tried many different ways by adding code in the bp-custom.php but most of them are from 6-7 years old and probably not working anymore. They through errors on the top of screen and makes the group navigation un-usable. Does any have a custom code for this? Many Thanks

    Hi guys

    I have the Aardvark theme which comes bundled with Paid Memberships Pro and BuddyPress/bbPress.
    WP version 5.3.2, BP version 5.1.2
    I’ve set the site so any non logged-in user goes to a set page, the site is essentially private.

    For some reason, the activity feed on the homepage wall only shows activities when logged in as admin. Any other user gets the message “Sorry, there was no activity found. Please try a different filter.” If they post a status, it’s visible when posted and goes into the database, but refreshing the homepage leads to an empty wall again.

    I’ve only made one recommended tweak to the child theme – redirecting non-logged in users to a “public page”. I can provide the admin login if that helps.

    function my_template_redirect_require_membership_access() {
    if(!is_admin()){
    if ( function_exists( 'pmpro_has_membership_access' ) && ! pmpro_has_membership_access() ) {
    wp_redirect( pmpro_url( 'levels' ) );
    exit;
    }
    }
    }

    add_action( 'template_redirect', 'my_template_redirect_require_membership_access' );

    As I don’t know where the problem lies I’m not sure what settings to show you. I’ve tried disabling all of the additional plugins I’ve installed to no avail. Here are the plugins I have installed:

    Aardvark Plugin

    bbP private groups
    This plugin adds private groups to the forums, allocating users to groups, and combinations of forums to those groups, creating multiple closed forums.

    Hi,

    I assigned different topics on Forums (bbpress) and arranged its heirarchy.

    However when I added groups, there was an option to add forums to groups. I ticked add forums to groups. I thought the forums added via groups will only be viewable in : groups.

    When I checked my forums, the ones on top are already the group names. The forum topics I created are already on the bottom part.

    1. May I please ask how the group forums can be automatically assigned to the last part of the forums so the forum heirarchy I assigned will remain the same? When there are members who’ll add groups, the layout won’t be messed up since the groups (forums assigned by group) will just be placed on the lower part.

    Or

    2. How do I remove the portion in Groups where the group creator can add forums? This is so the members won’t be able to add their group forums on the forums I originally created (only when #1 doesn’t work).

    Thanks.

    This worked to get the alphabetical listing by last name set up.
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/last-name-sorting-of-member-directory-standard-method-not-working/ (thank you very much!)
    But default to last active doesn’t make any sense for this particular group.
    I’d be happy to delete the option or preferably make alphabetical the default. I’ve been searching thru these forum posts for days.

    I’m using buddypress + bbpress + ultimate member
    I found that only avatar from ultimate member has been fetched, which is not what I want.
    I think the ultimate member caused this bug but I need ultimate member to create login and register page.
    Can I fetch buddypress avatar to show up in the bbpress forum without deleting ultimate member?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi guys,

    I have an issue that has stumped everyone that has had a go. So I thought I’d drop a message on here to see if someone could help 🙂

    Background:
    As a note, I have been using Buddy press and Youzer for a while – all works well – no issues.

    I wanted to add a feed to a particular page which would give users the ability to add their own YouTube videos and for non-members and members to view them in a feed style system. There is now a group installed within a page which allows this functionality. Each racing circuit has a different group.

    Link to site: https://racecollective.com/racevenues/anglesey-circuit/#feed
    Buddy Press Version:5.1.2
    WordPress Version:5.3.2

    This is pretty much successful, functionality works.. however…

    The problem:
    This all works great if you are an administrator – however for everyone else i “Sorry there was no activity found – Please try a different filter”

    Non admin users – cannot see an previous posts, it allows them to post but once the page is refreshed the post disappears..
    Non users/ unregistered – can’t see anything – just the above no activity message.

    It should look like this: https://racecollective.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Admin-view.png

    Is this permissions related? I cannot find a setting anywhere and I’m stumped as to what to try.

    Any help in the right direction would be absolutely awesome?

    Also do you guys do a premium support forum?

    Thanks

    Sam

    Hi! I’m having a problem when someone edits their post in the BBPress Forum, the edits are suddenly not showing up on the BuddyPress activity feed. This is a new problem and has been updating just fine for years.

    Help?

    Hi,
    I have bbPress installed which sends BuddyPress notifications to users when someone replies to a topic they created in the forum. However, these notifications don’t seem to automatically go away when clicked (like private message and friend request notifications do).

    Is there a way to dismiss these forum notifications when clicked?
    Currently they can only be dismissed by manually marking them as read on the user profile page.

    Thank you,
    Sam

    Hi all, sorry if I repeat this question/issue but I’ve googled and searched this forum as much as I can. I have Linux Mint 19.3 (Ubuntu based) with the WordPress (4.9.5 -> 4.9.13) packages installed including the wordpress-l10n (languages) package installed. I have BuddyPress 5.1.1 installed and would like to enable my users the option to select their preferred language in their profile. Is this really not possible without having to pay the hefty price for WPML. I also have the BuddyPress Multilingual plugin installed, but activating it without WPML seems to be useless.

    Is there maybe another plugin I can install that will solve my problem?

    Oh by-the-way, I have a single-site WordPress installation.

    Thanks in advance for your help!

    A newbie here chiming in,

    Buddyboss looks promising. I bought a license for the boss theme to use with their fork of the platform. Some observational points:

    The boss theme is nice, but is missing some very basic functions on the mobile version (search being one). Support would not say when it would be implemented, just that it is “on the todo list”

    There is no dedicated support forum for buddyboss (at least that I can find). As a paying user, you do get access to the support ticketing system. But a forum for (even paying) users would be nice.

    Their feature “roadmap” is “coming soon” and has been for at least a month

    Their ‘Get Support’ is also “coming soon”

    Their “Contribute’ is also coming soon

    At this time they are giving a hard sell on their product licenses. Including a “lifetime deal” for $1000.

    Don’t get me wrong, as a developer I am happy to pay for features that will serve my customers, but without the above items (especially the feature roadmap), I am very reluctant to shell out more cash for something that “might (never) be”.

    So for now it is a waiting game with a periodic pinging of their website to see when and if anything changes.

    @buddyboss Hey Michael!

    I totally understand what you mean. I feel the same way about WordPress. Even simple whitespace changes there become endless discussions that result in no changes and no agreement, and worse… no fun.

    My own personal concern here, comes from everyone involved in BuddyPress purposely trying to create an inviting, open, fun, rewarding experience to contribute to the project, and seeing talented folks like yourselves choose to compete instead of collaborate is the opposite of the target we are shooting for as a project.

    What more could BuddyPress have done? What could the team have done differently? I’ve never really seen much in the way of upstream improvements or recommendations or requests in Trac or the forums from your team. Not that it’s necessary. Not that it’s expected. But there isn’t a history of anyone saying no or shutting y’all down.

    I applaud the independence. I wish all y’all nothing but the best. And I hope BuddyPress is inspired from the creativity and inventiveness that BuddyBoss is known for.

    I’m totally new to the BuddyPress universe. So far I’ve been unable to find any site which uses either BuddyPress or BuddyBoss. I’m sure they exist, just can’t find them. Posted that question on this forum, no reply yet. Emailed BuddyBoss, and they politely informed me they have no way of connecting me with any of their client sites so that I can try their system.
    Gotta say, so far my first impression is that none of this is ready for prime time.

    FYI, while I’m ignorant of all things BuddyPress, I have been working online since 1995 and have coded my own blog and forum software from scratch.

    Anyway, I’m hoping to be able to join anybody’s BuddySomething site so I can experience this software as a user. Activism sites would be ideal, but any site will do. Thanks for any advice.

    On a forum I moderate, some topics and replies have randomly been automatically marked as pending. I can’t identify any reason for this. Anyone know what could be happening?

    I’m experiencing the same on my forums but unfortunately don’t have much time to investigate further right now. Might be worth opening a ticket on trac if those are the only plugins you currently have active.

    I actually just figured out today that @mentions are working on the Activity dialogs, but not on bbPress forum topic/reply dialogs or regular WP pages; is that the intended functionality?

    Running:

    • Gutenberg 7.0.0
    • BuddyPress 5.1.0
