KeymasterIt’s not you, it’s us. It’s a known bug. Thank you for reporting it

KeymasterHmm.
Are you accessing the forums page on the site’s admin screens, or the network admin screen? It ought to be the latter in a multisite config.

MemberMany thanks for your reply with helpful link, mercime.
I must say you are a star! You (& very often you alone) always reply to my posts for help-many thanks
The link helps with anti-spam BP measures & I also need help running BP on site.Today I tried creating a new BP forum (a public forum) on my site. From my dashboard I appear to have group forums installed. If I try to install sitewide forums the page displays bbPress plugin details & tells me I have the bbPress plugin already installed(which I already knew). I am not sure how these 2 BP & bbPress forums coexist!?(in the sitewide install >”You may activate both Group and Site Wide forums, but this may create a poor experience for your members.”<)..
I did successfully manage to create a new BuddyPress public group forum & am trying to display it on my nav bar links which will help accessibility (I think I have an issue with my WP nav menu code to add sub level menu-as they are not displaying-hopefully I can fix that soon). It is a little confusing for me the difference between BP group forums and bbPress sitewide forums & using either or both on site! Where is any help documentation for BuddyPress & bbPress to make setup & use easy & clear?
Anyway after I fix my menu drop down issue on my WP site, I will see how my BP experience develops from here-so far it has been very, very rocky for me with BuddyPress/bbPress….
It really shouldn’t be so hard to add BP forum to a WP site & use it easily but for me it is!!!
I just hope one day BP/bbPress will work well on my site….
Once again many thanks for your help

Participant== I have associated Discssion Forums with a blank page named Community. ==
Change Forums base to community as well.
Go to wp-admin menu Settings > Forums – Archive Slug – Forums Base ==> from forums –> communityMay 31, 2012 at 6:50 am #135303@mercime
ParticipantThis could be tricky, but let’s give it a try. You will need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your metrolo theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your metrolo theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
UPDATED: 07-13-2012
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
`[ DELETE FROM HERE ]<?php extract(get_option('mt_set'), EXTR_OVERWRITE);
$msarray = unserialize(get_post_meta($post->ID, ‘meta_settings’, true));
if($msarray==”true”) {
$mt_sortlay02 = $msarray;
$mt_bp_scbox1 = $msarray;
$mt_bp_scbox2 = $msarray;
$mt_bp_scbox3 = $msarray;
}?>
<?php $modules = explode(",", $mt_sortlay02);
foreach ($modules as $module) {
switch ( $module ) {
case ‘pos_0’: // Message
include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/modules/mod_msg.php’);
break;
case ‘pos_1’: // Posted
include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/modules/mod_pstd.php’);
break;
case ‘pos_2’: // Accordian
include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/modules/mod_acc.php’);
break;
case ‘pos_3’: // Page ?>[ DELETE UP TO THIS LINE ONLY ]

ParticipantI installed a fresh copy of WordPress Multisite and added the BuddyPress plugin and Network Activated.
On the primary site I configured BuddyPress and then clicked the “Install Group Forums” button. I still received the “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” error.

Moderatordo_action is a WP thing. Tons of info on it. Google it.
Given all the things you’re trying to do ( based on your posts to these forums ) you’ll be a lot more effective if you start learning about the environment you’re coding in.May 30, 2012 at 8:38 pm #135288In reply to: Help to run BuddyPress forum on my site…

ParticipantI have this issue as well. I have a primary site with BuddyPress enabled and configured and several subsites with BuddyPress enabled and configured.
Did you Network Activate BuddyPress or activate it on a site by site basis?
If you network activate BuddyPress is it automatically setup (but not configured) on all subsites.
May 30, 2012 at 7:21 pm #135281@mercime
Participant1. No, you don’t need to install bbPress plugin aka Sitewide Forums as well if you don’t need it in your specific installation. Having said that, know that per roadmap, come BP 1.6, group forums will be migrated into Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin). For installation of Group/Sitewide Forums https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
2. BuddyPress is a WP plugin, so no problem there at all. I test on XAMPP so I don’t know what challenges you face on a WAMP server, maybe someone can chime in on this one.
Did you check out BP Codex – to start off:
1. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/
2. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/

MemberI’m using the exact same selectors from default.css I simply copied them all over and removed the styling. I only add styles to those elements I want to change. The Home page works fine I can change any style I like on there but none of the sub-pages (activity, forums, users) are taking my styling at all.
Edit: I’ve tried what you suggested, making the selectors as specific as possible (or as is sensible), without success. Surely any styles which I set will take precedence over those in default.css as my stylesheet is the one that is loaded last?
I also forgot to point you at my site: http://platoon13.org/news/ Have a poke around, you may see something that I’ve missed.

ParticipantPer roadmap, BP 1.6 ==> BP Group Forums will be migrated to Sitewide Forums/bbPress 2.1 which is more easily indexed by Google

KeymasterWell, it’s one of the things I am more interested in to look at adding to core. Of course, just like anyone else, I need to make the case to the rest of the team that there ought to be a Like in BuddyPress, which is why I had a bit of an experiment in my Labs plugin.
If people like the idea for core, I would suggest they think the idea of a Like button through — bearing in mind we are changing how theming will be easier in 1.7 — in terms of where the button(s) should be, what should it do, any options it might merit, how it would replace Activity’s existing Favourite button. Perhaps even think about how it could be implemented in the code, and where the likes should be stored in a database, and how other 3rd party plugins could extend the Like button (I might want to make it work with my Achievements for BuddyPress, for example).
Once you’ve got something meaty, either post it somewhere on the BuddyPress.org forums, or make an enhancement ticket on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/

Memberwell my buddypress forums page is http://msflights.net/xforumsx
but my archive slug in forum settings is http://msflights.net/forumsIf I change the puddypress forums page slug to the same as the forum setting page (/forums) the links don’t work because its some kinda of conflict having them both the same slug.
Is there a way to make the buddypress forum page link to the correct slug? Or should I just delete the buddypress forum page and link it with a new page?

ParticipantYou mean your Archive Slug for your Sitewide Forums and the Page name were also xforumsx as per your post above, Buddypress Forums page ( http://msflights.net/xforumsx ) ?

If you use google you can put in
site:buddypress.org
with your search and the search results will be limited to results from this site which is cataloged daily by google, including all of the forums. I did some searching and testing and was satisfied that it works pretty well.May 28, 2012 at 4:16 pm #135169In reply to: bp site-wide forums

Memberok sorry the links don’t work now. I unfortunately asked my web hosting company for some help and they said buddypress was the problem so disabled it and messed with some files and now it’s completely broken so I’m going to reinstall everything.
But if my original question makes sense I would still appreciate some input on it, thanks!
