@mercime
Participant@abbas667 there are indeed some who have not succeeded in installing group forums but there have been many many more who have successfully gotten their group forums plus sitewide forums going for old and new installations.
What we’re doing now is troubleshooting to see why it’s not working for you and how to resolve this. I can empathize with your situation and frustration, but in order to assist you, we need to know the answers to the questions I posted above – WP/BP versions, hosting, etc.
You should also check out – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
Then, to enable forum in each group – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs

ParticipantWow! That’s quite something.
Here I thought that 1.6 release was set to coincide with bbPress 2.1, which has been “close to ready” for weeks now…
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/21-release-dateSomehow I imagined that open BP tickets for 1.6 would simply be punted onto 1.7 when bbPress 2.1 is ready…
If they match BP 1.5.6 with WP 3.4, that means we’ll have to wait at least 3 months for it. And 6-9 months for 1.6
Ohh! The horror!

robertbishop
MemberIs this perhaps more an issue of sitewide forum posts not showing up in the activity stream?
April 24, 2012 at 11:21 am #133476In reply to: Forum tab disappears after associating with page
robertbishop
MemberOkay, I have created a custom menu to force the forum tab to show in the menu.
I have associated my forum with the page linked to that tab.
When I click the tab it redirects to my home page.
Anyone got any ideas?!

Participant@verteus You need to install the Group Forums first, then you have to enable forums for each group.

ParticipantThanks Chris. We have made the changes suggested in that codex, but it has not changed the blank pages. I deactivated then reactivated as well, no change.
Any other ideas? I am going to post this to the suffusion forum as well.
April 23, 2012 at 9:59 pm #133458zillabuggs
ParticipantI am using 2011 theme. I don’t think the 3 groups on the page are of particular relevance. It’s just the fact that the posts show on the activity and group home pages, but if it is a long post you can’t read it all. One post that I put on from my admin account has [read more] as a link to see the rest of the post. All the others have […] including another one from my admin account posted today. I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem. You can see at http://justcatchat.com if that helps.

Participant@zillabuggs have never installed any WP/BP on Windows because of many possible issues. Adding “Windows server” to title of this topic even it’s possible that it’s not a server issue.
== My users are putting posts on, but you cannot view all of the post. . I am referring to a groups page with 3 groups set up on it.==
To clarify, do the members actually get to publish that group forum topic in the first place? As in, do they see a message that the forum post was successfully published after they post similar to what you see happen when you post here – “Your reply was posted successfully”?
Sorry, not getting this -> “groups page with 3 groups set up on it”
What specific relevance does the Groups Directory (?) page have to do with your issue? What theme are you using?

ParticipantThanks mercime, it seems to be caused by the plugin BP Group Hierarchy. I deactivated the plugin and the problem was gone. If the plugin has support, I will ask there.
Thanks

Participant== why the report bug page is not working in site ==
You need to log-in again in trac with same username and password== our forums problem still not fix. please help ==
@abbas667 start your own topic. When asking for support, include WP/BP versions, theme used, plugins installed, single WP or multisite, Linux/Windows hosting, WP installed in domain root or subdirectory,
Did you go through the Installation Wizard after activating BuddyPress?
Did you change to bp-default and deactivate other plugins?
If you deleted bbPress forum tables in database, did you also delete bb-config.php file in root so you can re-start installation of the Group Forums?April 22, 2012 at 9:19 pm #133413In reply to: Long forum posts don’t work

@mercime
ParticipantApril 21, 2012 at 8:22 pm #133372@mercime
Participant1. Create a Network in subdirectory structure
2. Set which blog ID BuddyPress will run on: For example, your new sudirectory, /network is the first subsite you created (therefore with ID #2), then add this to your wp-config.php
`define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 2 );`3. Install and activate BuddyPress. Go through Installation Wizard.
4. Install and activate https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/threewp-broadcast/ where you broadcast posts from /network/ into main site which will have a regular WP theme. Author link, if theme dev added it per post, would link to main site’s author.php/archive.php file which will list author’s posts in main site only and will not link back to /network/ site.
Should you have any issues with ThreeWP Broadcast plugin, please post at WordPress Multisite Forums or at plugin WordPress.org

@ChrisClayton
Participant@vnmember Can’t help with Super Cache, but others have spoken about how to get W3 Total Cache working with BuddyPress over here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/configuring-w3-total-cache-with-buddypress/
April 20, 2012 at 11:05 pm #133339@mercime
Participant@kiddie Per option #1 discussed above, you only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, members, groups, register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the bottom of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
``Save file.

Participant@tank2012 these questions are a little general, have you read through the BP codex ? Read through the beginners guides first as they will answer some questions.
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/Basic things like starting forum topics, registering really require having a little play around with the install before you let lose live. Registering is a WP function and initially you need to enable it in the WP general settings then the BP page will work at /register/ or whatever you titled the empty page.
Forums have to be enabled in the BP settings and then you can add them to groups or run as a sitewide one – again have a play around first to see how these things work then post back in a new thread if you have specific issues and problems.
Lastly bear in mind that TastyKitchen woulld have taken a while to get to the stage you see so be prepared for a little work getting there.
April 20, 2012 at 7:48 pm #133335tank2012
MemberThank you for your reply mercime. I got it installed and everything fits and looks fine. I am having some issues though.
I’m trying to set-up my buddypress side of things and community like http://tastykitchen.com . It seems they have a normal site and then they run buddy press in it. Is that correct?
At first I only wanted a forum plugin and that’s how I found buddy press. I did want to develop a community eventually – buddypress looked like the king and so I installed it !
How do my members register and how do I set this up? Do i need more plug-ins Buddypress or have I over looked something? Ideally I would like a side login section just like tasty kitchen.
Also how do I start forum topics?
I want users to be able to join as members for free post and interact in forums and have their own unique profiles like tastekitchen in a controlled environment.
Please help I’ve looked for tutorials and tut vids but I’ve yet to find a decent one.
Also is there other plugins that you could recommend that I might need to help me run it like tasty kitchen.
THANK YOU
