Participant>>> Right now I only have 2 groups, as the site grows users will be able to create their own groups and have a forum. The 2 groups I have is one for all users (I don’t want a forum for this group), and the second group is just for businesses that join the site. The business member group has a forum that I am only making visible to the business members.
If you do not want a group to have a forum, then do not enable the group’s forums in that groups admin page.
If you want to make the forum visible to only the business members group, then make that group a Private Group or a Hidden Group.
>>> … the forums page is showing.
Not clear whether you’re referring to the group forum or the sitewide forums page.
>>> How can I set the forums page to be the sitewide forums? I have the custom link in the navigation bar and that is fine.
Not clear. Do you mean that you want to use the “forums” slug for your sitewide forums?
>>> But in the community widget, there is a link for forums and I do not want that because it just takes you to an empty forum and I do not want them to use that for their reviews. Ideally I would love for that to go to the review forum. Hope this makes sense.
Not clear. Which community widget? What theme are you using?

@mercime
ParticipantLooking over your theme, you will need to change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your telegraph theme in server during the compatibility process.
If you’ve changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder, replace all of them by deleting the 6 BP folders in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility
Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.

Participant@uloga surprised at your a la troll rant here. You have been positive iin these forums before. Didn’t know that changing avatar from unicorn to che guevarra causes change in behavior as well.
You know you don’t have to use BuddyPress. You also know that BP code has considerably improved since it was first released ( https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/ ) and that bp-default theme had those functions more or less even way back then.
BuddyPress is fortunate to have @johnjamesjacoby as Lead Dev with Core Devs @djpaul and @boonebgorges on the case.
Lambasting others for your frustration in updating your client site is not constructive at all. The unicorn should return.

@mercime
Participant1) Re: delete not deactivate
You can safely delete each Group you’ve created in each Group’s admin settings.
You can uninstall the Forums for groups in dashboard menu BuddyPress > Forums > uninstall group forums.
You can uninstall Sitewide Forums in dashboard menu BuddyPress > Forums > uninstall sitewide forums.
Then, go to BuddyPress > Components > remove checks for User Groups and Discussion Forums2) Re: if you look at my site http://www.sweepbook.com/rate-this/ you will notice the menu items are on top of each other
– I don’t see that in your site. So it’s either you’ve changed the theme to bp-default theme or you’ve decided to use bp-default’s custom menus to organize your links.
3) Re: The logos on my site, redirects to http://www.sweepbook.com/rate-this
– Right now I see that you have HTML pages at domain root http://www.sweepbook.com/
So where did you install WP/BP, in subdirectory rate-this?and the redirect is to
redirect is to http://www.sweepbook.com/sweepbook/rate-this/ .
WP Settings > General > Site Address URI/WordPress Address URI was changed without proper checks and this is not a BuddyPress issue at all.https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL and if that doesn’t help you resolve the problem, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

MemberNot sure if the ideal place to post, but here goes:
Have done a brand spanking new install of WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.4; and have no other plug-ins installed. I have attempted to create site-wide forums following the above tutorial to the letter, but cannot get my forum to display for love nor money.
When i click in forums on my site menu – it says the ‘forums component hasn’t been setup yet’ – http://county2county.co.uk/forum/ and retruns me to the site index.
If I click on the ‘view page’ when creating a forum then I just get a blank page – http://county2county.co.uk/forums/forum/general-discussion/
If anyone would be able to help out with what I am doing wrong; then I would be eternally grateful.
VMT!

KeymasterbbPress (any version) is a forum, right? Just like what we’re using to talk over now.
BuddyPress is a social network layer for your WordPress site. The pictures on the front page list its features https://buddypress.org/
February 17, 2012 at 3:59 am #129965In reply to: bbPress vs. BuddyPress
@mercime
Participant1. BuddyPress and bbPress have the same Lead Developer, https://buddypress.org/community/members/johnjamesjacoby/activity/just-me/
2. Current BuddyPress version uses own version of bbPress plugin for Group Forums and at the same time, can use bbPress plugin for Sitewide Forums. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
3. In upcoming BuddyPress 1.6, Group Forums will be refactored to use bbPress plugin https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3598
bbPress *heart* BuddyPress

Participant#8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones? None activated.
#12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in? 2.0.2bbPress 2.0.2 is a plugin, and you have to install it deliberately for the Sitewide Forums. Group Forums uses its own version of bbPress. So just to clarify, which forum are you referring to? Group Forums or the Sitewide Forums?
February 17, 2012 at 1:15 am #129949@mercime
Participant@fswd you mentioned that you set up the forum correctly (in your first post), did you enable forums for each group in e.g. GroupName > Admin ? https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs

MemberThanks for your advice about the appearance > theme editor. You’re already helping me with the other issue is also an another thread I made. I’m curious if you know of any video tutorials or anything like that because there are so many basics discussed on this forum that I don’t understand. For example, I don’t know how to make a bp-custom.php, I don’t know how to make a child theme, etc. When I google them, all I get is buddypress.org. Yet, while I’m here, I have people tell me to do these things, but I simply don’t know how. Any advice on how to learn the basics?
