KeymasterNo reason to bump anything here at all. The forums don’t move fast enough and all of the core devs and moderators do a great job at keeping their eyes on things.

Can anyone help? It’s clear to see there are no topics, but equally clear to see to the right the tags that spammers left…any thoughts?

KeymasterMake sure bbconfig.php has the correct database info in it (that file must be in the root of the web space). I had the same problem when moving from local testing to an actual server.

ParticipantI’m using the same versions, sitewide forums too and very often despite showing the excerpt from a post or a reply, doesn’t show the thumbnails added to it at activity stream.
I use to make a recount on settings from dashboard and it starts to work again.

KeymasterIt’s caused by posting a forum topic from the forums directory page, and not picking a group for the “post in” group dropdown box.
Is this what you’re doing?

MemberThanks for reminding me about using widgets! How nuts is that!… ‘paralysis-by-analysis’ and all that – I was just mesmerised by getting the forum to work, which it does now… incredible! Thanks dcavins and mercime!
Question for mercime: Perhaps the deactivation of Discussion Forums via Components tab should be mentioned in the Installation instructions for BuddyPress so bbPress would work and do its thing. I would never have known how to sort this out because I was on a hiding to nothing following the advice on the bbPress forum itself, which had me chasing my tail! Good thing you guys know what you’re talking about!
At https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/2/ I still don’t quite understand the following…
“Note: During the Installation Wizard, Forums will be associated with the “Forums” page. In some installations, you do not need to change anything. But if your sitewide forums won’t work, go to wp-admin BuddyPress > Pages and you’ll find the association and remove the Forums Page as the selected page.”
As far as I can see removing the Forums Page is not an option from the Pages tab (!) – only from the Components tab where Discussion Forums can be unchecked…mmmmm…January 25, 2012 at 8:39 pm #128585In reply to: Change Group Sub Nav Tab Name
Keith Kelly
ParticipantTried what was called out in the above link.
Not sure why, but that wasn’t working either. I thought it might have been the fact that I had the group hierarchy plugin enabled, but after disabling nothing changed.
I am able to successfully change the slug of the main forum ect. by changing the page slug. What I am trying to change is at least 3 levels deep in the group. For example:
/groups/nfl/forum/
I want to change the display word “Forum” on the subnav to “Message Boards”. I am assuming if I can change that last slug, it will change the display text as well.
I would hard code it into my theme if I knew where to find the code.

Participant>> how can I have a page visible in my sidebar
Not quite sure what you mean. If you activated the Sitewide Forums, you’d find that there are bbPress widgets that you could add to your sidebar like:
– bbPress Forums List
– bbPress Topics List
– bbPress Views List
– bbPress Reply ListJanuary 25, 2012 at 12:59 am #128538In reply to: [resolved] BuddyPress Forum Errors (Help Needed)

ParticipantSorry I didn’t get to this sooner, I’m glad you resolved your problem!
For anyone else searching this same issue and landing on this thread. The file you may need to check is bb-config.php. You’ll notice it looks very similar to wp-config.php:
`// ** MySQL settings – You can get this info from your web host ** //
/** The name of the database for bbPress */
define( ‘BBDB_NAME’, ‘Your Database Name Here’ );/** MySQL database username */
define( ‘BBDB_USER’, ‘Your Username Here’ );/** MySQL database password */
define( ‘BBDB_PASSWORD’, ‘Your Database Password Here’ );/** MySQL hostname */
define( ‘BBDB_HOST’, ‘Your Host Name Here’ );`If you are unsure about any of these settings, ask your webhost.

MemberI’m having the same issue. And my privacy settings are set to allow search engines. This is quite strange to me because everything was working fine and now my activity streams are empty. Nothing at all is showing up. Prior to this happening (or at least, prior to me noticing this had happened), I was tweaking things with forums. This is all on my localhost.
Any thoughts?

Member@mercime Do you guys have any plan to add the search option to this forum? And unfortunately Google does not index buddypress.org forum topics. it index all other pages but not the forum topics. I tried this in google search bar to search only the buddypress forum and get nothing:
`site:https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/ comment notification`
Although it works when you are searching groups:
`site:https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/ comment notification`
A forum without a search option makes it useless. please please please add a search option.

MemberI justed posted the same problem on this forum. I read something about adjusting htaccess? My BP site is on a subdomain of my website and my htaccess is in the root of my head domain. What should I change?

@mercime
ParticipantYou might want to check the custom community forums to check if such issue has cropped up and any solutions or if no such issue was brought up, post in that forum about your issue.
If you want to check if the issue is corrected using bp-default theme, backup your database where the custom community theme’s options are stored. Then change to bp-default theme and check if you can post updates without issue.

MemberAside from the confusing method to setup and get site-wide forums working, has anyone resolved the issue of site-wide forums not showing up in the activity stream? I am attempting to get this to work on a new installation ( WP 3.3.1 | BP 1.5.3.1 | bbP 2.0.2 ) without any luck. It is very frustrating and taking up lots of time. I’d rather not enable group forums just to have them in the activity stream. If anyone has site-wide forums only on their BuddyPress installation, working properly and integrated with the activity stream; please offer a step-by-step guide or link to one.
Thank You

@ChrisClayton
Participant@derek-melo, you will get a quicker response by posting on the albums/media forums (https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-album/forum/) People who are most knowledgeable about that specific plugin keep a closer eye on that forum.

KeymasterI didn’t have any luck with that setup either. My working setup for a site-wide forum is
1) Disable the BP Forum component altogether (BuddyPress>Components)
2) Don’t create a “Forum” page. If one exists, I got odd behavior, even if it was in Draft status. (Definitely don’t make a Forums page with the shortcode.)
3) Enable bbPress plugin
4) Create a new forum via the admin menu.
Now, when you go to your bbPress default slug, it should take over and build the page.January 23, 2012 at 7:08 pm #128466In reply to: Search forum/support
