ParticipantMy problem is similar Paul…my normal page permalinks seem to be working fine.
I have a WP 3.3 setup using BP 1.5.2 in a mulitsite ENABLED platform. Sometimes the links work properly…but in other areas of the network, links don’t. NAMELY, the URLs to Member Profiles don’t link properly from the MAIN site.
Background – the ‘main’ site in our multisite platform is called “networkit.com”. One of our subsites is “tvhra” and found at http://www.networkit.com/tvhra
Overall, links seem to work fine within the TVHRA site when linking to member profiles, activity, forum topics, etc….all good.
However, from the main site (and i’m signed in as the site admin) – BP members section (found here http://www.networkit.com/community/members/ ) – if I click on a member name, such as “Betty Kidd” who signed up originally on the networkit.com/tvhra blog site, her link tries to go to: http://www.networkit.com/community/members/bkidd/ – instead it just refreshs back to the designated home page for networkit.com
The url is wrong…should be going to http://www.networkit.com/tvhra/our-community/members/bkidd/
Note that in the main site, all BP components are under parent page “community’, but in the subsite, the BP components are under parent page “our-community”…don’t think that’s the problem, but thought I’d point it out.
ACTIONS TAKEN THUS FAR TO DIAGNOSE:
I’ve already deactivated all plug-ins on the MAIN Network Admin panel, and in the NETWORKIT.COM panel AND in the TVHRA panel. Then deactivated BP. Reactivated just BP and still have the same persistent problem. UUGGGHH.The intellect of this community is far above mine…..any thoughts on why this is acting this way and what I need to do to fix the problem?
FINAL NOTE: I dd see a thread on this started about 1.5 years ago, with 30+ posts…and no real evident answer…so, I’m trying again fresh.
Much, much thanks!

@mercime
ParticipantHave you gone through basic troubleshooting like changing to bp-default theme and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress?

MemberI’ve already enabled group forums. I tried it again, and it still didn’t work.
I continued to receive the “Please pick the group forum where you would like to post this topic.” or “This group does not have a forum” messages even after enabling group forums.
Thank you for your suggestion though.

ParticipantYou’re welcome. Glad it was just a minor correction. Marking this thread as resolved.

MemberI am basically ridiculous. I repeatedly typed forums instead of forum, the accurate slug to use. I need to read the address bar a little closer next time. Thank you so much!

Memberlol…….I am a book of questions……but you’re right, this particular issue (I believe) is on the WordPress side, so I’m heading over to the WordPress forums to see if I can bang that one out……..

MemberI hate to bump-post for attention, but I have also been posting at the WP MUDEV forums for some help with this. http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/dead-links-when-searching-replying-anything-loaded-by-ajax?replies=9#post-170134
Phil, who has been helping me debug some, believes this *may* be a bug with BuddyPress being installed in subdirectories. I unfortunately cannot install WP/BP at the root of this server I am working on, but I decided to post this update in case it gives anyone here any more ideas.
Thank you in advance for any leads or help you can provide.

ParticipantThe “existing bbPress install” is about the internal bbPress integration, Forums for Groups, and not the bbPress plugin, aka Sitewide Forums. So looking for bb-config.php doesn’t apply in your case.
Go to dashboard menu Tools > Forums and check whether the Archive slug is correct. i.e. Page name of your bbPress plugin forums e.g. Discussions is the same slug that you see in Archive slug “discussion”

KeymasterPinging the entire core team and a forum moderator is not going to help get a quicker response.

This sounds like a weird bug, I have not seen it before. Is it all profile fields? Or just custom fields which you have created? Have you renamed the default profile field (if so, to what)?
Is it always the same user’s data, or does it change? Is this user an admin or have any other special role on your site?January 12, 2012 at 7:27 am #127846In reply to: How do I remove topic tags from BP forums?
@mercime
ParticipantYou have no forums/topics created in the link you gave above. In any case, whether it’s Group Forums or Sitewide Forums, just go to the Topic page and click on the Edit link. Delete the tags.

Member-by the way: my apologies for posting this in the wrong group at first… I’ll check both threads, but wouldn’t mind if an admin deleted the first post that was in the wrong group.

MemberInstallation didn’t work, but it has worked out after some rummaging around. I have at least found the link now and changed it.
January 11, 2012 at 9:51 am #127813@mercime
ParticipantChange to bp-default theme and see if issue is corrected. If it is, please contact theme author and bring it to his attention. If issue is not corrected, deactivate plugins except BuddyPress to isolate the issue.

@mercime
ParticipantYou could install and activate – Theme Check Plugin and the Log Deprecated Notices Plugin.
The first plugin will check if your theme is up to latest WP standards. Take note of “Warnings” and “Required” notices and make corrections as noted..
The second plugin kicks in some minutes after you activate it. When you check it under Tools > Deprecated notices, it will let you know if there the deprecated template tag/s in your active theme and usually give you the replacement template tag/s.

MemberI have now tried to add the bp-template-pack from the wordpress.org site (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/). However, the download worked fine, the installation went fine, but upon activation both my admin and site went blank. Literally white pages instead of both. Any thoughts?

KeymasterYou either need to create a page not called “forums” and map that to the BuddyPress Forums component in the set up, or change the name of the Forums slug name in the bbPress settings.

ParticipantSearching in either the top buddybar search field, or the search field on each page, goes to: https://buddypress.org/?s
But that page always is just the blog page. Annoying. Very hard to use this site if I can’t search the forums for solutions to my issues

ParticipantI am having a similar issue. Upgraded to latest BP and WP, and now although ALL of the other associated pages, Activity, Members, Forum, etc., are working, the page I’ve mapped for the groups to show up on does NOT. Flushing permalinks didn’t help. Trying to associate to a new page didn’t help.
I have redefined the groups slug in bp-custom.php, but removing that line didn’t change anything. Please advise. Urgent!

ParticipantI added something to your other topic about bp search: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/remove-the-default-search-in-bp-default/
I had a look at your site and wonder if the border colour could better match the main widget footer area.
In /bp default/ default.css there is the following in `#footer-widgets`
`
border-bottom: 1px solid #e0e0e0;
border-right: 1px solid #e0e0e0;
`
`#e0e0e0` was to go with a white area… It could be overridden, in the child theme, to better match your new colour for that areaJanuary 10, 2012 at 10:49 pm #127772archonic
ParticipantI’d say forums have been *the* backbone of online communities since shortly after the birth of the internet. Focusing on them has brought BP a lot of success and I’d like to see more development there.
I’ve faced some privacy issues in trying to setup an LMS – Schools have strict policies on what information is available to the public about their students (nothing!). It isn’t too hard to close the /members directory to the public or ensure users viewing a profile are logged in. It would be nice to have this as a default feature though.
I agree with a front end member search. BP is geared for niche communities and that’s one feature that would help BP graduate to being useful to communities of 100 or 1000+.
Paypal integration should definitely be the job of a plugin. I’ve also got a use for that feature – donating members having an icon beside their name and such. I haven’t found a plugin to do that but it would be pretty easy to make – paypal can pass back confirmation of payment completion which would change profile metadata, then just add a little if statement to profile templates.

ParticipantThe file should be called exactly style.css and the name is important . What is put at the top of the file is also important – see previous link to codex…..
It needs to go in it’s own directory, such as in wp-content/themes/my-theme/
NB: Please use backticks in this forum to make sure any code you quote is precise…..
