ParticipantAlright, I figured out what the problem is. @SeannyFunco the tip that WPMU mentions is how it’s supposed to be setup.
I think the codex needs to be updated to say that if you’re only using Site Wide Forums, you need to disable the Discussion Forums component since this is meant for Groups integration.

Participant@abysshorror I know, a proper privacy plugin is something ALOT of users want, including myself – but sadly, this plugin does not achieve that and i don’t think their is an easy way to force the plugin to hide activity… (if it was that easy, we’d already have a real privacy plugin and wouldn’t be having this conversation. lol)
i remember reading a reply from @modemlooper (though, i might have mis-read it, or something) on his plugin’s forum before he closed it stating that he wasn’t putting proper activity privacy into the plugin because the core devs are supposedly working on a privacy component and it’s something that needs to be in core.

ParticipantThanks @SeannyFunco I also saw that post and tried it prior to posting here. I am thinking I’ll give the group forums a try since it seems to work well here.

MemberHey man, I was having the exact same problem and could not find anything to help me on the BuddyPress site. Then I stumbled upon this website and it solved all of my problems:
http://wpmu.org/guide-to-buddypress-forums-how-to-set-up-group-or-sitewide-forums/The trick for me was following her tip, “If you have any trouble, you may want to try unticking the Discussion Forum box in the Components setup page.” So my forums work now however because this box is unchecked I cannot use the Activities for the Achievements plugin. So if anyone has any help there it would be greatly appreciated.

Participantthe whole bbpress+buddypress thing is expected to become alot easier and better in BP 1.6. (so it’s subject to change)
But for now, Sitewide forums are using bbpress 2.0 theming have a look here – https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-20-theme-compatibility

MemberThanks again….it isn’t a Suffusion thing after all. I found the members tab in the Profile area again by clicking on the highlighted terms in the profile fields. That is where it was/is. Not terribly convenient, so I will probably add a page link, too. You see, tab is not redundant to those of us who are not using the full functionality of BP, without forums.
January 4, 2012 at 8:03 pm #127423In reply to: where is membership directory?
@mercime
ParticipantYes it does. Suffusion theme had many options built in plus it’s own BP Compatibility plugin. I’ve never used the theme. I suggest you bring the issue over to the Suffusion forums as the theme dev would know what’s going on with your recent upgrade and compatibility with Suffusion theme and their compatibility plugin.
There’s never been any members directory tab is In user’s profile area ever in bp-default theme (BP 1.2 to present) nor in older bp-sn-parent theme (pre-BP 1.2). It would redundant as there is already a link to Members directory in main menu.

MemberHi, Mercime. I am using Salutation by para.llel. us It has been recently revamped for use with Buddypress and I can see that many members seem to be doing fine. I am sure it is something I have done. I have changed only one setting under buddypress and that is ‘hide admin bar for logged out users’. I messed up initially on my pages set-up, so had to go back and re-install bp to get the permalinks working right. Now everything but this section works – it throws me out to google and says it is a broken link:
Oops! This link appears to be broken.
Suggestions:
Go to http://www.atlantagardeningforum.com
Search http://www.atlantagardeningforum.com for members admin settings generalI will try switching back to bp default and see what happens.
January 4, 2012 at 7:28 pm #127420In reply to: widesite forum page wont show up
@mercime
ParticipantSince you only want to install sitewide forums, make sure that there’s no bb-config.php where you installed WP, i.e. same level as your wp-config.php. If you find that there’s a bb-config.php, delete it.
Check in wp-admin menu Plugins > Installed Plugins and see if bbPress is listed and activated there. If you ran “install sitewide forums” and were able to download bbPress via pop-up screen in backend and activate it, then yes, the link in BuddyPress > Forums – Sitewide Forums should be “Uninstall Sitewide Forums”. If you see “install site wide forums” instead, then you were not able to install bbPress in the first place.

MemberI am using Suffusion theme and have been all along.
What I am trying to say is that when I used to go to my profile, there would be my avatar, my name, the answers to my profile questions a few tabs for settings, profile, changing avatar, etc. There used to be (unless I have entered the Twilight Zone) a tab there to go to the member directory page…which makes great sense to me. A member clicks over to someone’s profile via, perhaps, the “who’s online” avatar widget in the sidebar, they read that profile then they want to read more profiles, so they click the tab that used to be there to do so.
I can make a menu link, but it just makes more sense for it to be in the profile section, doesn’t it? And wasn’t it there? The only place I’ve found it on these forums is on the forum index.
Does that further understanding at all?

Participant== But do i need to install the site wide bbPress forum in order to make the group forum works? ==
No. I never said that. I just linked to area where there’s a screenshot of the database with 7 forums tables so you could compare yours. Were the 7 bbPress tables for the forums generated in your database?Also, double-check if the database information in your bb-config.php is correct.

I don’t have any experience with multisite yet, but will give it shot!

MemberI do have bb-config.php at my root directory.
But do i need to install the site wide bbPress forum in order to make the group forum works? I just want the forum in the group only.January 4, 2012 at 5:07 pm #127398In reply to: [resolved] Group Forum Not Working
@mercime
ParticipantCheck two areas:
– server: see if there’s a bb-config.php file at root of your WP install, same level where you find the wp-config.php
– database: check if 7 tables were generated in your database or not. See examples of bbPress tables in either single WP and WP multisite at https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/3/#bp-forums-dbJanuary 4, 2012 at 5:04 pm #127397In reply to: where is membership directory?
@mercime
ParticipantKnow that 99.9% of those who help out in forums are volunteers living in different time zones.
Re link to Members directory, you should be adding that to your custom menu. If that’s not what you meant, please provide link to your site where the issue is.

ParticipantYou might just need to “jog” system up a bit. Go back to the Group > Admin where you enabled forums, and disable forums, and Save. Go to another page then go back to Group > Admin and enable forums and Save.
