ParticipantOne of the users of my site also reported this error:
Warning: Variable passed to each() is not an array or object in /home/jewsbych/public_html/wp-content/plugins/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/forum-attachments-for-buddypress-bp-functions.php on line 461
Works like a charm otherwise.

ParticipantThere are many people who would gladly donate time and money to help Erwin with this. Not sure if you saw this, but Andy is about to make this much easier:
Andy Peatling (6 days ago): I’m working on a new version of this site that will automatically create a group for every new BuddyPress plugin that appears in the repo. This means plugins will get all the functionality of BP groups – a forum, activity stream, a list of members who are interested in the plugin, etc etc. I’m also going to add a donate page, which should help out a bit.
This has been held up a little right now because I’m trying to get the new upgrade/install wizard done first. This will allow BP to use WordPress pages instead of hacking with root components. It’s all bits of the jigsaw that need to be put in place before I can continue. Hopefully by the end of the month I should have at least the first iteration of the site close to completion.

Ultimately, this is Erwin’s baby, so he’s free to develop this at his own pace and according to his own specifications.

ParticipantWe are also thinking along the same lines.
There was a good discussion on this a while ago from Burt Adsit.
But I can’t seem to find it anymore.
Now there is discussion on duplicating group functions…

Please let me know of any developments along these lines.

Participanton the /groups/index.php theme file a hook is above the item-list-tabs (subnav)
<?php do_action( 'bp_before_directory_groups_content' ) ?>seems easy enough tag something against the groupmeta and display a group or two on that hook.
*edit – this is on the Groups component page – not the forums directory.
if you need a forum index, i’m working in that feature right now

ParticipantI’d vote for placing it above.
For starters, even just having that Featured Form space would be awesome…maybe optionally hiding the group aspect could come later.

ParticipantThere is a long way to go, but now that bbPress is tightly integrated in BP, forum support is emerging. Etiviti (rich!)’s new “Forum Extras” plugin that is a big leap toward bringing classic bbPress plugins into the BP environment, and it’s getting better every day. Forum attachments is another great plugin that brings a classic forum feature into the BP environment.
There are some core limitations of bbPress that will keep it from being as “powerful” as PHPBB, such as the ability to merge threads, but whether those features are critical or even desirable is open to debate. (Moderators love that feature but I am not sure users do.)
I hope it’s not true that forums are “minimized on purpose” around these parts, because what you have built is a perfect fit with forums. Forums are the heritage of web-based “social networking”, and there are a lot of important social interactions that still lend themselves quite well to the forum structure (such as this thread you are reading right now, for example).
Like that hybrid commercial on TV right now: Forums were social before Facebook even existed or YouTube uploaded its first video.

BuddyPress Forums Extras Version 0.1.5 | By rich fuller – etiviti (rich!)

Participantdepends…
1) what version of the plugin now?
2) shortcode bbcode or bbcode to html?
if bbcode to html, then proper formatting of a link is like so Google It
if shortcode bbcode, then you’ll need to speak with the plugin author who provided the shortcodes

Memberuuhh – bbpress seems pretty good, but as far as restricting access to certain conversations to certain logged in members one plugin is antiquated with no admin section for my client (sad since it had the beginnings of what I need) and another restricts access to categories of users but not specific users – dang
Obviously I am new to researching a forum solution – maybe I’ll have to move to something like phpbb2, yay

ParticipantQuestion to anyone who can help.
Seems that all links added using bbcodes are having a whole bunch on stuff added to them.
It should be – http://www.juf.org/tov/uptown_cafe.aspx
I dont think this was happening before I upgraded to the lateset version. Any ideas on who to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

InactiveNope, you’re on a BuddyPress powered site, but the forums that are integrated into BuddyPress are powered by BBPress.
March 23, 2010 at 5:49 pm #69857Reaxion
MemberI really need to be able to create closed discussions for specific groups, so that means there are two levels to the site:
– a members section for certain people
– those members are divided into their own group discussions
I thought Buddypress would be best for that. Aren’t we in a Buddypress powered forum right now?

Keep up the good work!

ParticipantThank you so much for this. The forum extra page works awesome on my setup and I am so happy. You have really outdone yourself on this one.
I do have one question. I made a post in a members only group forum, yet on the forum index page the new post does not show in the list of ‘fresh’ posts on the top. It does add to the counter in the group forum listing below though.
I would have expected the post to show up because I am logged in and a member of the private group, but to have it not visible to the public, or members who are not members of the group.
Is this a setting somewhere?
thanks

ParticipantAgree with Andrea_r. Note that the oneclick install forum doesn’t have as much community support as far as plugins go as the standalone bbpress does.
At the end for forums I think nobody beats phpbb. So whatever your focus is as a site/communicty/group go with the best extensible available solution. If forums is your core look at forum software that gives you what you need. I would hold back for investing in a swissarmyknife, but fail at the one thing that is important for your audience.

Participantyou’ll need to download the development version (v1.6b) – not a stable tagged version.
