@mercime :
But there is still a nag
Ok, it’s fixed. Weird

Fixed double-nesting
– This is fixed now
If you want special tags[…] – so I wrote some tags like : new, used, giveaway, red, blue, black
Those are tags you have to create in your data-blog and then put their “ids” in (eg:7,4)
Checked option for Auto-suggest Tags
Oops I forgot this option, but it’s not active yet.
there is no Site Admin or Admin Role there, so do I assume that Keymaster ala forums is for Site Admin, correct?
The roles are retrieven from your blog. I don’t understand your question very well but you should find the usual wordpress roules there
Thanks for testing and review !

ParticipantEmail login plugin. Lose the username field by making it type=”hidden” on register.php and autogenerating a username value using a trick like this one.

@mercime
ParticipantHi Grosbouff, thank you. I auto-installed your plugin to test installation. Cannot activate plugin. Double-checked server, buddypress-classifieds folder is there but it is double-nested.
Fixed double-nesting. Went to Plugins > Install. In addition to BuddyPress Classifieds Plugin, I also activated the new BuddyPress Classifieds Roles & Capabilities Plugin sitewide. But there is still a nag – “There is a new version of BuddyPress Classifieds Roles & Capabilities Plugin URI: http://dev.benoitgreant.be/2010/02/01/buddypress-classifieds …”
Moved classifieds theme to my bp-1.2 child theme in wp-content/themes/mercime-bp12child/classifieds.
Created new blog named bpclassified tests; set Privacy settings, set categories like Backpack, Tents, Shirts, Shorts, etc.
In admin BuddyPress > Classified settings
a. Options Page
– input the blog ID of special classified ads blog
– input days active
– “If you want special tags (e.g. : propositions, offers) to sort your classifieds, put their ids here – comma-separated” – so I wrote some tags like : new, used, giveaway, red, blue, black
– Checked option for Auto-suggest Tags
b. Roles and Capabilities.
– Very Nice.
Question, there is no Site Admin or Admin Role there, so do I assume that Keymaster ala forums is for Site Admin, correct?
c. System Reset – great add-on thanks.
d.Support and Donate page – cool.
So all settings saved. Went to front page and see that “Classifieds” is now part of the main navigation menu in 1.2 bp-default theme.
======= got to leave for a while, will be back later to continue with results of test =======

ParticipantI guess everyone is focused on bp 1.2 and getting it off the ground. Having posted two forum topics on this, and not getting a reply, as well as a forum topic last year on the same thing, I guess it is up to me to “discover” how to solve this.
What I do know: it is NOT the ‘admin_email’ setting in wpmu, which you can find in the admin user area of wpmu in the general settings selection. You can also find that code in wp-includes in wpmu-functions.php The email address I would like to use is already set up there.
This leads me to believe it is a buddypress function. I have looked in bp-core.php, bp-messages.php, all the files in the bp-messages subdirectory. Nothing.
There must be a setting that says SMTP or phpmail or some other type of function that sends out the email notifications by using the default server email setting.

Participant… but relationships to users need to be maintained, in a ddition to Groups and possibly even events. Then each image must maintain an associated comment/activity stream set of functionality. Finally, in order to be truly useful in a social media context, the ability to “tag” a user in an image will be very important.
That’s all metadata with image files, it has nothing to do with uploading photos, generating thumbnails, etc. I’m not saying writing a plugin to make those connections is easy, but it would be easier than writing an entire gallery/photo app from scratch.
I’ve tested several gallery scripts. I needed something that could handle upload of raw photos. NextGen came close, but still had some problems. If Buddypress tries to build an entire app into the core, it’s never going to be as solid as NextGen or Zenphoto or other established gallery apps.
Obviously Nextgen and Zenphoto are for single user galleries. That doesn’t make them any less suitable as starting points for a BP plugin. There has been some discussion about Nextgen on the WPMU forums.
This photoblog plugin claims to support WPMU. Not sure what it does. Haven’t tested it.

ParticipantYou have to create a “custom.css” so the change won’t be affected at the next update.
Read the forum to know how to do this
You have to add
margin: 0 auto;
in the body css

ParticipantIf you’re new to BP, i recommand that you use the stable version.
One error is that you have probably not read the README and the forum;-)
– Control the paths indicated in wp-config.
– You can also set your permalinks to something other as “default” in order to have your BP working correctly.

ParticipantAndy, I think the problem is still the same as in the first version of the plugin. It doesn’t really fetch the new stuff. When I visit the backend, and push the update buttons (both twitter and external-blogs) then the stuff gets fetched (I just found out).
For the “old” version somebody recommended a solution to this (https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/external-group-blogs-plugin-update-bug)..) did you consider that?
It would be great, if those plugins would work correctly with the release of BP 1.2

Participant@osasko, do you use the email login plugin? You can’t get rid of the username entirely, because WordPress is built around it, but you can autogenerate a username and hide the input field on register.php by adding type=”hidden”. It’s an ugly hack…

ParticipantHi r-a-y,
excuse me : some precision :
-> I use the BuddyPress install for bbpress and Buddypress + bbPress are on the same base
-> i didn’t upgrade from a previous version of WP-MU or Bpress : it’s a new installation for both of them
-> i don’t have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed
-> I’m using the standard BuddyPress theme
-> I didn’t modify the core files
thanks

ParticipantI was originally going to make use of one of the forum subscription plugins but our students have requested to be “spammed to death” with updates regarding their collaborative group work – much like facebook. Of course, now that they have got their wish they realise that receiving a huge raft of emails regarding your work each day isn’t quite as fun as hearing about what your friends did on facebook…

I’ve posted an update on where I’m at with the plugin and what I’m planning to implement before release this weekend. The link is below but I’ll also cut+paste the content as it’s probably going to get more people reading it if it’s on here rather than my small dev site.
Update:
Current bugs fixed. Will be adding the following requested features in the next couple of days with planned release on fri/sat/sun:
1) User’s have to be registered X amount of time for their activites to email people. Warning about this in the notifications screen. Amount of time defaults to 1 week but controllable in wp-admin backend.
2) Mention of the need to check these notification settings in the sidewide notifications area. Perhaps a list of links to the group notification settings for each group the user is a member of too.
3) Default behaviour for the plugin will be for activity updates to be off or at least infrequent. This default behaviour controllable by wp-admin backend.
4) Possibly change all notification settings to be time based as per the current group wiki edit ones
5) Enable group admins + mods to send out a group update that overrides group user settings in regards to not receiving updates. This will be done by ticking a box on the update screen, an extra “what’s new†bit in the group notifications area or a screen in the group admin area.
6) Finish the implementation to allow plugin authors to add their own action type handling
The aims of these changes are:
1) Keep the interface as simple as possible for all the site users
2) Have default behaviour that isn’t too spammy
Possible future updates:
Ability for users to have update ‘digests’ received at a specified time daily. Allowing users to choose the time they receive the update should help spread server load.

ParticipantThanks, r-a-y,
Basically what r-a-y has said is completely correct. It hooks into the action for recording an activity and then emails everyone in the group with a notification of the activity. The idea of this is that it can catch pretty much anything related to a group – so forums, ‘wire posts’, group joins, wiki edits, etc can all be included. By default it will support the buddypress basic functions + our groupwiki functions but I’m also trying to build in an easy way for people to extend this to support their own plugins with just a small amount of additional code to their plugin file.
Even without building in specific support for a plugin this will grab an activity update for a group and email it out, with a generic description for the activity type rather than something specific.
The feedback I’ve had so far suggests that users want a bit more control over default behviour/settings of the plugin and for a way for group admins/mods to post ‘must have’ alerts. I’m hoping to add this in the next couple of days and get the plugin out by Friday or some point over the weekend.

KeymasterThis isn’t the same.
This gives email notification to group activity stream updates.
Boone’s plugin and yours only does group forum email notifications.

KeymasterUse Boone Gorges’ Group Forum Subscription plugin:
http://dev.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2009/12/07/group-forum-subscription-v1-4/
This will work on BP 1.1.3.
