Thanks for the fast response Ray. I hope they can implement this in the future. :-)

The missing piece is deep integration. There are a number of threads on these forums about how to do just that. It is not easy.

    Thanks Jeff.

I’ve followed that link and got stuck a bit.

I have the one-click-install working without a problem.

I then uploaded BBPRESS to a new directory off the root (called it /forum/). browsed to that directory and didnt get taken to an install page….

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

    Hi capitalistdog,

Short answer as of right now is “No”.

This feature has been listed as a new enhancement here:

    https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/946

What you could do right now is create five separate groups for your different Economic sections… I know that’s not what you wanted to hear!

I have to say that the forum at “buddypress.org” is much more user-friendly than at “testbp.org”

Not sure why, but it truly is……

Anyone got any ideas please? Should I start again and reinstall or I saw a plugin called force-member-login mentioned in the forum will this sort it out.

    Thanks

Instead of touching WPMU core file, create and upload the code of plugin to mu-plugin. See this thread – https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/14647

This one’s working in my 2.8.5.2 installs and set up for Site Admins only for site security

You can enable the theme-editor in the Script mu.php in wp-admin. But be carefull because users than write php-code.

For more information you can look here:

Thank you very much Jeff. I think the default theme caused me the confusion. With a “forum” tab, it would seem that it would be separate from groups rather than integrated into groups. I really appreciate the clarification.

The integrated version of bbPress creates group-based forums. So, to add a topic, you must be within that group’s forum. If you want a sitewide forum, you will have to install another copy of bbPress (you can use the same bbPress tables) using deep integration. There are a number of threads on these forums about how to do just that.

Read this Codex article for more information:

Have you posted in the http://BP-dev.org/ forums? This plugin is a 3rd-party plugin created by Nicola Greco. If you’ve posted there and received no response, you can PM him via BuddyPress.org.

The register.php page is a BuddyPress-specific theme file that let’s you more easily customize the user registration page. It is found in the /registration/ directory of the parent theme bp-sn-parent. When it is in use, it takes over the duties from the wp-signup.php page which is a WPMU file. You can use either one, but I find it easier to use the register.php page.

Also, read this thread. The OP created a new Captcha plugin for WordPress that is compatible with version 1.1.x of BP:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/si-captcha-for-wpmu-and-buddypress#post-24383

Here’s the direct link to the plugin in the WP repo:

    Hi Jeff,

thanks for getting back on that part of the question. I actually do not know where I got if from, I guess from the WPMU forums, but Google does not seem to know it anymore.

I have never had any premium subscription, so unless they offered it for free temporarily, it must have een from the public part of the wpmudev.org.

This is the info from the plugin file, which does not give much info:

    /*

    Plugin Name: Signup Question

    Plugin URI:

    Description:

Author: Andrew Billits / James Farmer

    Version: 1.0.1

    Author URI:

    */

Basically it let you define a basic question in the backend (I think the standard question was ‘is fire hot or cold’), which would be easier to solve than most captcha’s and was needed to sign up.

    Edit: I found it: http://wpmudev.org/project/Signup-Security-Question

Though not a premium plugin, it is not GPL either… /Edit

I am not sure if this part made any difference in stopping splogs though: seeing the thousands of hits on my -renamed therefore non-existent- wp-signup.php it seems that renaming the sign-up file would make more difference.

That is also why I doubt if renaming teh slug will help as the underlying fle can still be reached?

Welcome your input on both aspects, thanks!

I’m searching around the forums and not seeing anything specifically related to my problem, but I’m thinking this has to be something simple. For whatever reason, after installing the new version of WPMU (2.8.5.2), it’s not recognizing any of the buddypress functions.

    I’m quite befuddled.

Is the plugin you’re referring to this one?

    http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/security-signup-question

If so, it states that it is not updated to the newest version of WPMU and that there are no plans on updating it. Also, again if this is the plugin with which you are having issues, then you will more than likely not get much support on the BP.org forums. Since this is a premium plugin, the developers of it should be doing the support. In other words, you are not going to have someone solve the issue here for free when someone else is making all the money.

If it is a free, GPL plugin you’re having issues with, please provide the link here. Also, contact the developer and make sure that it is compatible for use with BuddyPress in general and that it has been update to the BP 1.1.x series.

thanks for the link Jeff, and yes i’ve read a lot of topics on MU forum (the problem isn’t related to MU because i can login, access the backend and do all the actions allowed to a simple user on MU.

i know when i import all the user i don’t have data for BP, but i’ve logged in with a user “Arturo” updated my profile but the member directory is empty, the last user widget too, etc and this is my problem, see the user in BP, after i’ve created and updated the profile for example…

    @MrMaz

Unable to receive activation or lost password emails.

Although WPMU now tells me everything is installed and working I’m not able to register using the buddypress frontend. I found a reference in a forum suggesting that any plugins with ‘-‘ in their name can cause the error I’m seeing.

    From my log:

Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary.

I’m still getting this after deactivating buddypress-links though so may be more of a buddypress general support quesiton. Any ideas?

Since you have taken a WP install and turned it into a WPMU install, there would be no BP data to import from your original install. Thus, you will have no BP data when install and activate BP–other than your Admin account.

Did you search the WPMU forums for instructions?

    https://mu.wordpress.org/search/upgrading+WP+to+WPMU?forums=1

If so, as DJPaul says, each member will have to log in before their initial BP data set is created.

Migrating from WP to WPMU is beyond the scope of this forum. Have you tried Google or on the WPMU forums?

If I’m not wrong, you can just make the Buddypress Default theme available to users in the Site Admin–>Themes section of the dashboard, and disallow other themes.

I’d probably create a new child theme (blank, basically, so it’s identical to the Default Buddypress child theme) and name it after my site, then make it the only one available.

You can change the default WPMU theme if you want more than one available via a code snippet somewhere here in the forums that I have since lost the link to (check the stickies?) or with this paid plugin (which is in and of itself not worth the signup fee I don’t think).

This free plugin may offer the same functionality but I haven’t tried it.

Alternate: Don’t know if this still works. I haven’t tried it.
