Participant@jeff: Thanks again for the hint. When it comes to DBs it kind of scares me, because I almost know nothing. But as far as I can tell there is only one “bb-config-location” in the wp_sitemeta table and this seems fine…

ParticipantThe code must be dropped at or near the top of your wp-config file.
Yes! That worked. Thank you Scotm.
I had searched the forum re how to defining which blog ID BP was going to run in, couldn’t find it so I posted question in https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/run-buddypress-from-sub-blog-or-blog-id-2
KeyMaster or Moderator – please change the topic Run-buddypress-from …. to “resolved” or delete it entirely. I had started that thread using dropdown “not resolved” and after posting, I couldn’t add tags. Nor, after finding the solution in this thread, could I change the status to “solved” or post and refer solution to this thread.
Thank you.

Participantit’s not the quote that is the problem… a “who quoted me” function is what is needed if we interpret it the good way…
i coded something similar for vBulletin, where people were “rated” by popularity when rating was based on how much people were quoting you in a forum… maybe this rating thing can be fun to add in BP, as a lot of features are compared already…

ParticipantThreaded forum doesn’t sound that good to me though, an @ function doesn’t either. I think the old quote function works best on a forum. Most populair forum softwares still use it, so can’t be all that bad.

Anonymous User 96400
Inactivethreaded forums and such is kind of a different matter to using @username, erich. it’d be more like twitter, where you can see what has been said about you in one place rather than having to go to the forums, the wire or anything else.

Participant1)
why do I have to write “@stwc” in this post after all, so that everbody knows I am replying to YOUR post ?
2)
If we would have THREADED-forums, THREADED wires, etc. than I would not need to write “@somebody” all the time…..instead DIRECTLY replying to your post.
3)
your suggestion might be a nice feature for young Twitter-geeks, but I do not think that the average user would even understand this feature.
Just check out the following forum and you will see what “intuitive” means:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/forum/
4)
probably we could have both ? Your feature and also threaded-items ? Combining those two things would be great !

KeymasterIt isn’t possible without some kind of plugin, but it is possible with one.
You would want to take a look at the buddypress/bp-forums/ directory to see how forums are created within BuddyPress to begin with, and modify that existing code in your own plugin to modify that behavior and turn it into what you’re trying to accomplish.
The code is in there to do what you want, you just need to make it do it.

KeymasterIt’s very possible there is a JS conflict between plugins, but it’s less likely there is a conflict in the core WordPress files (though not impossible.)
Since the cropper tool relies on JavaScript entirely to function, it will fail without any real degradation if there’s a JS error or the user has JavaScript disabled. The first scenario is more likely to upset people, as if someone specifically has disabled JavsScript in their browser, they’re probably used to getting jipped on their web experience.

KeymasterUser and avatar information is stored in wp_signups before the account is activated, and it is moved into the user, usermeta, and xprofile tables upon activation.
It would seem you’re experiencing a different issue than what you describe.
For now I’m closing this and linking it to…

ParticipantInteresting idea. Why don’t you create a new enhancement request in Trac. You log into Trac using the same credentials as you do here on the forums.

ParticipantCorrect. The meta key “bb-config-location” will only be located in the wp_sitemeta table. What I was suggesting is that their may be duplicate (multiple) entries of the “bb-config-location” meta key within the wp_sitemeta table.
Make sure that you have throughly scanned the entire table for that possibility. I have seen this happen with other meta key, meta value pairings before.

Participant“if he does get to a new version, that we have the option of suppressing the flurry of emails sent to the user when the Welcome Pack kicks in (or maybe there’s an easier way”
Hehe, when we first enabled the plugin on one of our sites, it created a mail queue so long, that due to our host’s spam-prevention mail limitations, it took three days to send out all the mails.
Not a complaint though, Achievements is a fun plugin, and we have it on three of our installations.Back on topic though. There was a forum post somewhere about how to write defaults into a plugin, but I can’t find it. Any ideas? I might just use Welcome Pack for self-educational purposes, but need it to do some more specific things.

Participant@jjj: Thanks for the hint – it seemed logical… BUT, it also seems, that the path for the bb-config-location is correct (htdocs/bb-config.php). So who gets the $5?
@jeff: I also searched the entire DB for the term “bb-config-location” but it was only found in the wp_sitemeta table
You guys are great! I got also $5 for the person who catches the “evil-doer”

If it helps I could grant you access to my installation and DB – for I am not a programmer or something, just a greenhorn who tries to find its way through the jungle of the virtual world…

ParticipantOK, so I used the code from Xevo in this thread in a custom functions.php in my child theme. It redirects all calls throughout all the WPMU blogs to signup.php to the BP register page, which should help you do what you want, if I understand correctly.
One thing this hack doesn’t do is to pick up any changes to the register slug in wp-config, though, so you’ve got to remember that if you change it.

Dwenaus
Participant@Andy, are you working on threaded comments on the wire, or categorized (parent/child) groups and forums. both are discussed in this thread but they are very different things. But both of them would be excellent features.
I am now working on a project where parent-child or categorized groups are essential. I guess there are two ways to do this: having the parent group be a group itself or just an empty container. I guess both approaches have their uses.

ParticipantJohn-
That’s a great suggestion. However, I would have thought that when Michael tried using the “re-install” link in “BuddyPress > Forums Setup”, that the proper bb-config.php location would have been saved.
Perhaps there are two–or more–conflicting meta data entries for the location of a bb-config.php. That’s what I’m now guessing.
Delete all the “bb-config-location” entries except for the proper one and it should work. Although, it might require starting the install process over once again. This means deleting all the bb tables and the config file AND any and all entries for “bb-config-location”.
