Participantcan someone explain in “dumb” people talk how site activity works? Does the action send the information to site activity or does the site activity pull from somewhere…

Andrea, I was remiss in not giving props to the mu forum. You’ve helped me out several times over there.

ParticipantFirst of all, since you are installing a premium, 3rd-party DB sharding tool, you need to contact the people at WPMU DEV Premium and ask them for support. It seems like all was fine with your standard WPMU + BP install until you switched to using their multi-db plugin.
Secondly, in case you are not aware, there is a free sharding tool–HyperDB. In fact, this site (BP.org) is using it. Also, there is a great two-part article on how to use HyperDB written by Trent Adams, one of the moderators on this and other WP product forums.

Participant@allenweiss – The lack of stickies (as well as a directory) on the forum’s front page does need attention in future updates. I understand both items could create a cluttered forums area, but they should be options (perhaps in the forums setup area) available to site administrators.
Currently, forums appear to be an after-thought tacked onto groups, when actually, user behavior makes me think the focus should be reversed; the majority of users, once logged in, head to the forums area, not a group.

KeymasterMy response from the other topic:
That’s the way it is working currently. Stickies are basically excluded from the directory loop at the moment while Andy figures a way to handle them properly. There’s nothing wrong with your installation.

Participantok…the only way I know to make this work for my site, is to have a sticky subject that people see when they first enter the forum. Right now, however, when I make a post (in a public forum) sticky, it won’t show up in the forum (that’s strange) but will when I don’t make it sticky. Is this the way it’s supposed to work?

KeymasterWith the integrated version you won’t have access to the bbPress admin panel to turn them on or off, so external only.
bbPress being included with BuddyPress is like TinyMCE being included with WordPress. Yes they are applications all their own, but they also live together in a very symbiotic way (without being alive of course.)

ParticipantThank you, John James Jacob. I know it is small, but it would be akin to a coder seeing a missing “endif” or an absent “;” — stands out like a sore thumb.

Participant@stwc — I use the Welcome Pack to automatically add new members to an “Announcements” group. This group includes topics such as system rules, FAQs and other information new members need to know. My first “sticky” subject: how the forums work.

ParticipantThe solution I’m thinking about when I get 1.1 installed is to use the Welcome Pack plugin which you can use to have new users automatically added to a Group, and have a Group called “Everyone” or something of the kind.
But I’m still wrapping my brain around the way this will work, and the best way to make sure it’s all intuitive for less technically-minded users who are used to the standard bulletin-board way of doing things.
