In reply to: Keeps loading without doing anything?
joelpittet
ParticipantI tried a fresh install, worked through a few permission settings (755 wp-content/ recursively from FTP and again from SSH) that some related forum topics suggested and still no luck.
bp-core-ajax-handler.php Seems to be returning 404 also for messages AJAX call and the letters on the groups page.
Does anybody see the same issue in firebug, maybe I am going nutty.
I see the response in firebug, and the 404 too, and the ajax loader keeps spinning.

Greg
ParticipantJust trying again for something that I’m sure has a simple answer.
I’m not asking for help to troubleshoot the cookie integration – I really just want to know how to create a link to the WPMU logout page from bbPress.
In fact, exactly like the BuddyPress.org forum. The link on the above right on this page calls the WPMU logout function, but is doing so from the bbPress template. Is this link manually assembled? I imagine not, because it includes the nonce value.
I have searched for this info on this forum, the bbPress forum, the WPMU forum, and the Internet.

ParticipantThis has now been tested with WPMU 2.7.1, bbPress 1.0 RC1 and Buddypress 1.0. At the time of this post it actually works with all SVN versions of the softwares, but working with releases is preferred.
Thanks,
Trent

David Lewis
ParticipantI just did a quick test. In the home theme at least (wp-content/themes/bphome/header.php) the global nav at the top is already hardcoded. So it’s dead easy to hide the groups and members links simply by wrapping it with this:
<?php if(is_user_logged_in()): ?>
[ links for logged in users only go here ]
<?php endif; ?>In my template, the “groups” and “members” links appear on lines 48-53.
Note that the last item in the navigation is:
<?php do_action( 'bp_nav_items' ); ?>This function could pulling in more navigation links if you are using any plugins… like bp-events for instance. That said… I like the solution in this thread much better.
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1651&page=2
The “solution” above is very “low tech” and in fact, isn’t really a solution since it doesn’t actually restrict access… it just hides some links. Probably not a good way to go. You could probably still get into a group by… let’s say… clicking on someone’s profile link and then clicking on a link to a group they are a member of.

ParticipantAh, right. Thanks for the answer, Jeff!
I was just thinking that it would give a framework that could be adapted to the BuddyPress default theme, so that you could offer a ‘BuddyPress default’ theme for bbPress. After all, a lot of people are going to use the BuddyPress default theme with minimal alteration, because it’s neat, clean and tidy.
If no-one else has got the time, I’d be happy to have a go at adapting Andy’s BP.org bbPress theme to match the default theme – but I’ve not themed for bbPress before, so it would feel like a bit of an extra mountain to climb to have to start from the bottom.
It just seems that with the work Andy’s done already to port BP.org to bbPress, you’re very close to having a bbPress ready BuddyPress default theme – for which I’m sure a lot of people would be very grateful…

As I say, I’d be happy to lend a hand if it’s not a high priority for anyone else.

The plugin DJPaul linked to alters the behavior of WPMU’s registration process which is controlled by wp-signup.php.
When using BuddyPress, you have a choice to either use WPMU’s registration script or the alternate one found in the home theme–register.php. More information in this thread

You are correct. Andy has themed the BuddyPress forum theme to look just like the rest of BP.org.
At this time, he does not plan on releasing this theme. He wants to keep the bp.org brand distinctive. Imagine if many of the new BP installs used this theme. It might confuse people when coming to BP.org. BP.org needs to maintain a unique identity. It is, after all, the place where everyone else comes for guidance.
Of course, everyone is free to style their own theme.

ParticipantSorry, not sure which thread to post this in now!
So buddypress.org is clearly running a version of the BuddyPress default theme (with blue instead of orange) that has also been ported to bbPress – is that right?
Would it be possible to release that as a bbPress theme?
Or has that perhaps (crossing fingers!) already been done somewhere?
Thanks for any input…

ParticipantFWIW, in this thread Bpfan posts a solution for the problem with BBP 0.9.0.4 where the admin is redirected to the main bbpress page on login (instead of the admin page).

KeymasterThis has been done similarly in various forum software. Wouldn’t be too hard to adapt to fit WordPress/BuddyPress.
I say do it.

At this time, BuddyPress only works with WordPress Multiuser (WPMU) version 2.7.1. You will have to install it yourself, which is really the only way that it should be done. It is never wise to use a one-button install service to install complex software platforms.
Now, whether your hosting plan will be of sufficient horsepower to successfully run WPMU is a different issue. For this issue you can search the WPMU forums.

The buddybar was displaying fine before I upgraded from my .9 build. Now with 1.0 rc2 I’m experiencing an unusual phenomenon
Currently, it is recommended that you stick with bbPress 1.0-alpha-6. See this thread.
This could be a bug with bbPress 1.0-RC-2. I suggest starting a thread on the bbPress forum for this issue if one is not already started.

KeymasterPierce2, if you’re trying to change the colors of the included “Social Network” logo image in Photoshop, your best bet is to just alter the hue/saturation to your liking. Just filling the colors will make it look all blotchy regardless of anti-aliasing.
This isn’t a design forum, but since it’s BP related I’ll let it slide.

I’d also recommend using Firebug with Firefox. This way you can tweak CSS on a live web page, and then apply those tweaks to your CSS file and upload it once and be done.

ParticipantI am wondering if there is some file for the Main Theme that comes bundled with BuddyPress
There are two default themes that come with BP–the bphome theme and the bpmember theme.
My standard caveat when creating custom themes from the default themes:
Make sure that you make a copy of both bphome theme and bpmember theme. Your customizations should be done in copies, not the original. That way, if you have issues with your custom themes (and we all do when working on customization), you can switch back to the standard BP themes to see how things should work.
