Nice job oldskoo1. Slick and it’s a great idea. I know that kinda thing would have been very appreciated when I was younger with kids. Being a parent is just plain terrifying the first time. “What are we doing wrong?”, “Why is he still crying!”, worried to let him out in the front yard. Ya know, normal stuff that isn’t normal because you’ve never done it before.

    Normal changes.

With the 2nd kid it wasn’t terrifying to let him play in the front yard near the street as much. We just learned to listen for the sound of screeching tires. Anything else wasn’t worth bothering with. :)

Don’t forget to post your site here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=185

Sounds like a user switching/authentication problem. When bp talks to bbpress it uses xmlrpc and then uses the logged in (in bp) user’s credentials to work in bbpress. Only for creating posts and topics. Creation of forums and reading topics, posts goes under the utility user that gets setup in config.

Do you have the var: $bb->bb_xmlrpc_allow_user_switching = true; declared in bb-config.php? If somehow bp/mu is confused about the var: $current_user->user_login then it will have problems authenticating your normal users on the bbpress side.

Don’t use the LDAP plugin and don’t know what the implications for authentication are in xmlrpc. This does sound like it’s related to that. Your users can’t authenticate on the bbpress side so, failure.

https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1314 start there. Look at the code for bp-core-adminbar.php

Create a function that is your new top level item and submenus. Use add_action() to hook up the new function/menu item.

And here is a thread suggesting there should be a way to report inappropriate content, which could be good functionality to combine in one plugin along with Favorites functionality, as they are both forms of the same thing, tagging items: “Report This” feature

Here, just for reference, is a more active discussion on the same idea: “My Favorites” Plugin, but I think egerrits’ description, in the first post of this thread, nails it more clearly.

bp doesn’t control how or if registration emails are sent. It relies on wp to do that. It depends on your host and if you have wpmu configured properly. I signed up with your site and didn’t get an email either. So it’s not just you. Try the wpmu forums for help. https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/

I would need a “report this USER” plugin that allows other members to report an individual user to the admin…

No, it makes no sense to report the user, the specific item (whether it be a photo, wire comment, blog post, whatever) should be tagged so that moderators know exactly what the problem is and can decide whether action against the user is necessary.

Perhaps this could be combined with the Facebook/FriendFeed-style “Like” tag that egerrits has suggested in his Favourites Plugin? thread, and that betoverli has suggested in his “My Favorites” Plugin thread.

We could have small tiny links under each item, like Facebook, but saying:

    like – comment – report

    @nicolagreco

Your Subscribe plugin sounds very useful if you want to track a particular blog’s activity, but it does not match betoverli’s request for a way to mark something as “liked” or to have that item then appear in the Favorites section of that user’s profile.

Betoverli does not want to receive alerts about new material, he wants a way to alert other people to items (posts, comments, photos etc) within the site that he has already seen and marked as a favorite.

Egerrit’s thread explains the idea more clearly and, again, your Subscribe plugin does not match the stated need. It would, though, be great to see a plugin that did.

Anyhoo, the other thread was here:

    @egerrits

The problem is that it is very hard to keep track of topics in bbPress – if you make a good suggestion at the wrong time, it can get pushed off the “front page” before anyone has a chance to write a response and get a discussion going.

Also, because there is no email notification of replies, people tend to return less often than other types of forum, meaning that some people who might love your idea simply don’t visit the forum on the day you post it.

I think the trick is to keep an eye on topics as they emerge and, if someone posts an idea that chimes with one you have already posted, reply as I have above, linking to your original thread. I have successfully used this technique in the past to resuscitate threads that were initially ignored but ended up being lively discussions.

So, you mean something similar to the new Facebook “like” and “comment” features, borrowed from FriendFeed?

I agree that this would encourage more activity within the site.

As a first step towards this sort of interaction, however, I would like to see a way to become a “fan” (not friend) of a particular blogger within the site i.e. indicate your liking for a person’s entire output, rather than just individual items.

The Fans concept is discussed here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1573

Hey all, first time poster in the BP forum, be gentle! I usually surf the forums before posting and seem to be able to figure things out, but I can’t with this one…and like always I imagine it’s as simple as the nose on my face!

my site momchatter.com, on the groups, blogs, members pages I’ve figured out that it’s the “narrowcolumn” css that I want to get ride of…and I’ve looked for it in all the .css files that you all mentioned here..any thoughts? (course I have a 3 year old to disctract me so I may not of looked hard enough, even using “find”)

    Thanks!

    Dace:

According to jjj, a privacy component is currently being developed and should be released as part of version 1.1. Read John’s post in this thread for more details: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1590#post-8019.

So, what you are asking will be possible in the near future. When will version 1.1 be released? Well, since BuddyPress version 1.0 has not yet even been officially released, I cannot answer that question.

    Thanks Burtadsit!

Yeah so I had that current version of the plugin and am still having errors. Any reason why this would not activate in BBpress? Is there something it checks for? I have been having other issues with my forums, but I still cant see a reason why it wouldn’t activate!

Just started and definitely still a long way to go!!!

After three days of fiddling around I finally managed to fully integrate bbPress, so now I have to figure out how to add “Forum” to the menu and include all the header section into bbPress. The design will also be custon when I’m finished.

I’ll jump on the wagon here – has there been any progress since this series of posts?

This support forum looks great, and as all I’m using is a modified buddypress theme whatever this site uses would be perfect.

Anything around that could do the job?

The prospect of starting from scratch isn’t something I’m particularly keen on to be honest.

bobman024, I’m kinda lost here. What plugin are we talking about? bpGroups? Download the latest at: http://code.ourcommoninterest.org/2009/02/14/buddypress-group-forums-for-bbpress/

I just downloaded that ver and set it up again. Activates and operates.
