Yes. You have 3 options:
- Search for a plugin on the Plugin Directory
- Write some code yourself. Feel free to ask any “how to” questions on here
- hire a developer

Are you referring to this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-profile-search/If so, you should use Andrea’s support forum:

orYour option could be added, but will require coding ability, afaik.

ParticipantI need some help. I’ve decided to remove the the messages->starred from BBP Activity and the Admin bar links.
I’ve tried a lot of functions and none of them seem to be working.four examples:
1. $bp->bp_nav[‘starred’] = false;
2. function remove_nav_items() {
bp_core_remove_nav_item( ‘starred’ );
}
add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘remove_nav_items’);
// ——- End Removes Forum link Activity feed ————- //// ——- Removes member link forum AdminBar ————- //
3. $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu(‘starred’);
4. function the_bp_admin_bar_remove() {
global $wp_admin_bar;
$wp_admin_bar->remove_menu( ‘my-account-starred’ );
}
add_action( ‘bp_setup_admin_bar’, ‘the_bp_admin_bar_remove’, 301 );I’ve done so successfully using CSS but I would like to use the functions instead. Can you please help?

ParticipantHi
Thank you for responding.
I tried a few other themes including twentythirteen & Mesocolumn – no difference.
Then today I disabled all plugins except buddypress & bbforum.Observation:
#1. The mentioned links worked.
#2. I then first activated a number of security plugins + Hyper cache plugin. Problem back, of page not found, until I deactivated Hyper cache.This was solved by reading this article => http://www.buddyboss.com/buddypress-speed-and-performance/ & doing this:
By default this plugin will cache all of your siteās pages, including your BuddyPress-specific content like activity posts and forum posts. This is not good, as your BuddyPress content is constantly updated and needs to remain fresh. To fix it add the following lines into āURI to rejectā in the āFiltersā settings panel of Hyper Cache:
/forums/
/groups/
/members/
/activity/
/blogs/
/messages/
/register/
/activate/… I think current plugin terminology is “Exact URIs to bypass” & “(Starting with) URIs to bypass”, which I did and clearing the cache.
#3. As I continued activating, I discovered the used https://wordpress.org/plugins/404-to-start/ also causes if I try to go to my profile page or for example /members/user-x/, etc to re-direct to site front page, with no error.
I have to look into this later. The other plugins I had tried before caused some issues, so I was happy with this re-direct plugin.
Will report back, at least if I get a response from author or get a plugin not causing issues, someone could recommend one ;).
Thank you & regards.

Participant@hnla lol sorry my bad i didnt realise the HE was infact a SHE :), yes i agree its slightly off topic as a whole for buddypress but isnt that some point serious buddypress users are in-fact going to have to deal with in the future?
This is why i said maybe have its own section in the forums than just having to post it under miscellaneous?
What good is it having a porche with only a sinclair c5 engine under the hood ? š

Participantcool he will probs read this when hes online, this is the thing with buddypress, i just didnt understand when i first came to these forums a few years ago even though i had been comming longer without registering, I myself had shared hosting and thought yippee i have found a plugin that i was looking for and installed it, then after messing around with buddypress it dawned on me that shared hosting just was not gonna cut the ice with buddypress let alone wordpress for a serious install.
I then decided to delve into the world of dedicated/vps servers. I am by no means an expert in this world yet but i believe from my own experience that it is a very daunting task moving to these kind of setups at first, once you get the basics of initial setup and general security right its then time to tweak everything for future proofing and scaling and performance tweaking if your serious about the future of your website, unless your willing to pay ALOT of cash out to people who can do his for you full time.
This is why i sort of pushed my buddypress websites design back in favour of looking into all this. I think this is one of the biggest points concerning every website build and believe that not enough info is out there to make people understand just how important all this is to succeed with their websites, alot of people see these one click easy installs and adverts off companys telling them to come build your website with us its easy then see wordpress installed and think yippe look at my new website and what it can do, until of course they then get popular crash and burn then fail and give up because they just dont understand the reality involved in pushing forward a scalable environment. This is why i believe people doing a massive project such as buddypress should really be able to share this info with each other from nivice users to experts in this field.

Participant@henrywright who is the best person to ask on these forums to add a new section?
I would love to see a server configuration and hardware setups section for buddypress in these forums, i have mentioned this before.
It could be a specific place for people to share all kinds of server configuration settings and tips and server scalability issues etc along with initial setup advice to.
I mean i would be willing to post a few server tips and tricks i have learnt along the way into this section and maybe write a few guides etc for server lockdown and shh hardening tips etc, even though i am still learning alot of server administration tasks (because the scope is vast )it would be good to have a place for vps and dedicated server users to all have a chat about issues and setups etc for buddypress. I do realise as a rule that there are plenty of server setup and config info all over the web on other forums etc and in articles but hey would it not be great for users of buddypress to have a tips and help section for this to? this would let users share their experiences with setups running with buddypress installs specifically and could also cover things like server level caching php caching and many other tweaks needed to run at optimum performance. lets be real here buddypress is not designed to run very well on shared hosting (not for very long anyhows to you bottleneck yourself) and i think this would be good info for people making the leap to other setups.

So I have the forum icon in the picture below.
http://www.cmpg-annex.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Home___Post_Processing_Group___cmpg-annex1.jpgIs it possible to send it to a different url? Below is the current code sending it to a forum. I would like to send it elsewhere. Is there something I can put into my child theme to accomplish this?

ParticipantIf you want to rename reference to the Forums everywhere you’ll probably need to do that with a language file: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/customizing/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
Did the stack exchange link help with the additional link you were trying to add?

KeymasterYes, you need to install bbPress in order to have forum functionality within BuddyPress groups.

ParticipantOkay @henrywright, I’ll check about that error message with that bbPress plugin through their forum.
So I did what you recommended and turned off all the plugins (including the bbPress plugin) where I only have the BuddyPress plugin activated, with me still using the TwentyFifteen theme, went ahead and filled out the registration form once more, and it still took me right back to that registration page with my same information filled out that I did but left the password boxes empty and this is all still showing up each time the page loads up instead of creating the new user profile or redirecting me somewhere else.

ModeratorPossibly, but it may be unrelated. In order to investigate that particular message, try opening a topic on the bbPress support forum

ParticipantI’m still trying to get to the bottom of why some of my users are being shown this message:
āYou cannot reply to this topicā
As I mentioned above, whenever I run the “Remap existing users to default forum roles” option in /wp-admin/tools.php?page=bbp-repair I end up with a blank screen. It seems like this could be related to the problem – can anyone explain what this option does and how to fix it so it runs correctly?
@danbp Thanks for the offer of help. Can I pass on this information to you privately somehow?June 4, 2015 at 3:58 am #240169In reply to: Group tab questions

ParticipantI think you can add this to your bp-custom.php file to rename forums:
// change 'discuss' to whatever you want define( 'BP_FORUMS_SLUG', 'discuss' );June 4, 2015 at 2:01 am #240158In reply to: Fatal Error When Plugin activated
mrjarbenne
ParticipantSo, if you can comment out any references to the Activity Stream Permalink/URL in that buddpress.php file you should be able to deactivate the Activity Stream again.
Look in that file for references to
bp_get_activity_directory_permalink();and then put a /* at the beginning of the code and */ where the line seems to end. One of those support forum links suggested line 478, but that might be an older version of the theme, and the offending line may indeed just be 427 and nothing else.Glad to help.
June 4, 2015 at 1:43 am #240153In reply to: Fatal Error When Plugin activated
mrjarbenne
ParticipantIt’s hard to know what that file is doing without seeing the whole thing. It’s not a standard BP file, it’s something your theme developer has added to provide additional functionality to the theme (something that would probably be better left as a plugin, but that’s another argument entirely). BuddyPress has its own theme compatibility layer, that should make it look nice in any theme. Your theme is clearly trying to do something fancy with BuddyPress in a way that is messing things up.
A quick google search reveals a few different people having issues with the xTheme and BP.
https://theme.co/community/forums/topic/buddypress-error/
https://theme.co/community/forums/topic/buddypress-website-down/This topic seems to suggest that if the activity stream isn’t activated in Settings/BuddyPress/Activity Streams then there is an error:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-website-dowm/
You could try commenting out the line as suggested in the above link. You could comment out line 427. You could temporarily delete the entire buddypress.php file in your theme (use your FTP program to throw it on your desktop and then delete it).
In the end, the X themes developer should really be the one to fix this.

ParticipantHi
It is over a month since I requested for some assistance, but probably either my case is unusual or has been overseen.I remembered this, right after writing a newly registered person to login & if they want edit their profile by going o the link top-right. However as mentioned in the original post, ALL these links lead to a page not found error.
As said, I have no link-related errors outside buddypress/bbforum (where they told me the issues are bbpress & not bbforum-related & referred me here).Links not working include /members/abc/, /groups/xyz/ & /members/abc/profile/.
As mentioned, I have no idea when the the problem started or what triggered it.I would appreciated some help as these links not working defeats the purpose of Buddypress.
Kind regards

shaquana_folks
ParticipantHello @hnla,
Didnāt mean to be āshoutingā through this message in the subject line, itās because this is the 4th time Iāve tried to get my message through this BuddyPress forum and out of all my messages from a few days back, I noticed that this recent one I just did was the one that actually went through and I did the other messages just the same exact way as Iāve done before so I donāt understand why my messages havenāt went through the other times. So itās just been a very frustrating time for the past couple of weeks trying to get help and I havenāt received further help so far from anyone so Iām just trying to resolve everything. But youāre right, and Iām trying my best to work with everyone to get the most feedback that I possibly can to get the job done and resolve these problems.
The off site frame 404 not found page should be working fine now. I just updated the permalinks and when I went to click on the register link, the registration page (as well as the actual website link) was working properly from my end.
As far as the BuddyPress plugin goes, I didnāt know that BP doesnāt have a setting for people to upload files, however when you go to the registration page on my site, thereās an āChoose Fileā section for people to upload a picture file (for their profile page) on there as someone is filling out the actual registration form, so I just assumed that feature automatically comes with the BuddyPress plugin.
There shouldnāt be nothing wrong with the theme for I had double-checked already from my backend and I spoke to a representative through my hosting provider and after explaining everything to them, they said that I would have to get in contact with one of the BuddyPress developers to resolve the issue and if itās an issue from the hosting plan, to inform me about it that way I can contact them again to let them know what the specific problem is. So Iām basically going back and forth between BuddyPress and my hosting provider explaining the same thing, therefore Iām pretty much stuck on what to do, so thatās why Iām asking for anyoneās help if possible, because Iāve done everything on my end to the best of my ability.
So here are some screenshots that I hope will be helpful of what I actually was doing through the registration process and hopefully someone can come up with a solution as far as why this is not working properly:
SCREENSHOTS FROM MY MAGNUS WORDPRESS THEME FOR REGISTRATION PAGE:
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2
Screenshot 3
Screenshot 4
Screenshot 5
Screenshot 6
Screenshot 7Then I did the same exact process with one of the WordPress default themes from my dashboard:
SCREENSHOTS FROM THE TWENTY FIFTEEN WORDPRESS THEME FOR REGISTRATION PAGE:
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2And as you can see, the same result happens. So can someone please explain to me why this is happening? Is it a BuddyPress coding issue? Or is it from my end? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

ParticipantThey are so many topics on this forum explaining how to do this ! If you think it’s not correctly documented, add your contribution to the Codex.
That said, i made you a working buddypress-en_US file you can download with almost(hopefully) all groups related strings changed to Alliance. Some are not modified, but you can add your own words with poEdit.

ParticipantHi,
You can search on this forum, they are many topics related to hosters. On my level, ovh, one&one are well noted european hoster.
Or googling for some other ressource and recommandation to make your opinion.
Choosing a host depends on many details like what you intend to do, how many people you expect, so it is just impossible to give an absolute answer for now.Good luck !

ParticipantNot sure how to mark this topic resolved, but I’ve decided to go about this in another manner. I followed the BP model and have my admin bar acting in the capacity of a menu and deleted my primary menu. Is working out pretty well thus far. For anyone else that’s interested I
Removed “howdy, $name” just because to me it screams WP
function custom_adminbar_welcome() { global $wp_admin_bar; $name = wp_get_current_user()->display_name; $avatar = get_avatar( wp_get_current_user()->ID, 28 ); $class = $class = empty( $avatar ) ? '' : 'with-avatar'; $wp_admin_bar->add_menu( array( 'id' => 'my-account', 'title' => __('') . $avatar, 'class' => $class ) ); } add_action( 'wp_before_admin_bar_render', 'custom_adminbar_welcome' );Removed WP links and change logo
add_action( 'wp_before_admin_bar_render', 'custom_adminbar_welcome' ); function rebranding_wordpress_logo(){ global $wp_admin_bar; //the following codes is to remove sub menu $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('about'); // Remove the about WordPress link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('wporg'); // Remove the WordPress.org link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('documentation'); // Remove the WordPress documentation link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('support-forums'); // Remove the support forums link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('feedback'); // Remove the feedback link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('site-name'); // Remove the site name menu $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('view-site'); // Remove the view site link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('updates'); // Remove the updates link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('comments'); // Remove the comments link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('new-content'); // Remove the content link $wp_admin_bar->remove_menu('w3tc'); // If you use w3 total cache remove the performance link //and this is to change wordpress logo $wp_admin_bar->add_menu( array( 'id' => 'wp-logo', 'title' => '<img src="http://test.theblackxperience.com/darklogo45.png" />', 'href' => __(home_url()), 'meta' => array( 'title' => __('eQubator'), ), ) ); } add_action('wp_before_admin_bar_render', 'rebranding_wordpress_logo' );Moved BP child menus up to make them primary menus
function make_parent_node( $wp_admin_bar ) { if ( ! is_user_logged_in() ) { return false; } $wp_admin_bar->add_node( array( 'id' => 'my-account-activity', // id of the existing child node (New > Post) 'title' => '<span class="ab-icon"></span><span class="ab-item">'._x( '', '' ).'</span>', // alter the title of existing node 'parent' => false, // set parent to false to make it a top level (parent) node )); $wp_admin_bar->add_node( array( 'id' => 'my-account-friends', // id of the existing child node (New > Post) 'title' => '<span class="ab-icon"></span><span class="ab-item">'._x( '', '' ).'</span>', // alter the title of existing node 'parent' => false, // set parent to false to make it a top level (parent) node )); $wp_admin_bar->add_node( array( 'id' => 'my-account-messages', // id of the existing child node (New > Post) 'title' => '<span class="ab-icon"></span><span class="ab-item">'._x( '', '' ).'</span>', // alter the title of existing node 'parent' => false, // set parent to false to make it a top level (parent) node )); $wp_admin_bar->add_node( $args ); } add_action( 'admin_bar_menu', 'make_parent_node', 999 );Added CSS to turn the menu items into dashicons
#wp-admin-bar-my-account-friends .ab-icon:before{ font-family: "dashicons" !important; content: "\f307" !important; } #wp-admin-bar-my-account-messages .ab-icon:before{ font-family: "dashicons" !important; content: "\f466" !important; } #wp-admin-bar-my-account-activity .ab-icon:before{ font-family: "dashicons" !important; content: "\f130" !important; } #wpadminbar .quicklinks li#wp-admin-bar-bp-notifications>a:before{ font-family: "dashicons" !important; content: "\f319" !important; }Only problem I’m having now is that for some reason the logo has decided to move itself to the right, but that’s another question for another topic.
