I think I understand BuddyPress for social networking, but I’m new here. Can I create an online classroom using BuddyPress? I see that BuddyPress users can communicate in private threads, but is there capability to have group video instruction? My users will need access to downloadable training materials, password-protected. I’m sure I don’t even know all of the features available for online instruction. Please point me to the resources. I appreciate your guidance.

    Hi,

Newbie question I’m afraid. I’m sure someone else must’ve done this but have been unable to find anything!

I have a data collection utility that users can download. It creates a file which I want the user to be able to upload for analysis. I then want to be able to post a report for the user to review.

My question: Is there a plugin that will allow the user to upload a file, let me retrieve the file, let me post a report back. This must be kept private for each user.

I’ve searched for plugins without success …

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you want them to pay to get to that member page, try the s2member plugin. If you want them just to register (for free), then I think this is the thread with a bunch of possible solutions: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-make-a-private-community/

As far as the MP3 player, I don’t know, but I’m sure there are a ton of options. In this case, it wouldn’t need to be BuddyPress specific at all. Just search for an MP3 player that works with a webpage and it can be added to the WordPress page. There might even be a WordPress plugin that does this already.

Hello , i am using the RANDY CANDY theme and it has no “functions.php” file.
Anyway , i paste the code that Travel_Junkie gave in “fuctions.php” file
that is located is “/bp-themes/bp-default” folder , but still I see no change.

Please help , I am desperate… Sorry for the bad English , I am Greek.

I cannot get the PM system to work at all either.
I have tried rwo fresh installs of WP 3.0; installed the BP 1.2.5.2 plugin; used the default BP theme; changed the permalink setting to something other than default.

I can fill in the form to send a PM but nothing gets sent; nothing gets received; there are no messages in the database tables.
Other functions like Friends and Groups seem to work but I need PM.

I don’t get any error messages on screen and there are no error messages in my server’s log files.

There must be something missing in the set up instructions if a clean install doesn’t work. I’m not the only one.

Well it doesn’t appear that easy to reproduce as I’ve just tried on my production server test site running WP 3.0 and BP 1.2.5. Created a new group, set it as hidden, Added an update, and a forum thread and there is no sign of the two pieces of data in the activity stream.

This is why detail is vital, this is a serious issue if true and as I’ve said one that I first discovered and reported in the Trac a while ago, a solution was tested and as far as I was aware eventually committed to a version release, if not this has to be looked at again.

When you see these pieces of data are you logged in as a member who is a friend of someone who belongs to a hidden group as this was the issue originally.

Really seems easy to reproduce…all any member of a hidden or private group needs to do is post a forum thread, update, and/or comment and walah! The activity appears in the public activity stream. At one point it was showing up in CommentLuv links outside of the main domain all together, which leads me to believe it is an RSS failure. Is this how the mail notifications are tickled? RSS? Activity stream as well?

I would like to implement PM function BP in sidebar of my themes, where the post author’s PM function will appear.

How are non members of hidden or private groups seeing this, how is it “getting outside” Steps to reproduce this would be helpful as this is an issue I raised a ticket on quite a while back but it may not be exactly the same issue.

    WP 3.0 BP 1.2.5.2

Forum threads, comments, updates, heck all of it is getting outside the groups as non-members of those hidden and private groups are telling me. I’ve logged out and witnessed it myself.

    Any way to fix this?

    @sadr
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/ does this already.

You can set whatever defined wp_cap/role levels assigned to:
    Create group capability
    Create group forum capability
    Create private group capability
    Create hidden group capability

Hi everyone – if you have used my plugin BP-Group-Control, I am beginning to gather ideas for some new features. Please post anything that comes to mind, and hopefully we can get a good discussion going about the best things to put in the new version.

Oh, so anyway, BP-Group-Control lets users select an “identifying group” that goes next to their name (good if you have users that need to be part of companies or something like that). Also you can configure the plugin so that group admins of public and/or private companies can add and delete users from their groups without being site admins. It has lots of options – almost everything can be turned on or off individually.

    Thanks!

For the past year I have been trying to recreate our “marinprofessionals” website with the same database capabilities for information retrieval , based on an incredible website: http://www.umwblogs.org which I believe our community could really benefit from.
    What was acomplished:
1)Created the domain (marinprofessionals.com) WHICH WAS NOT registered but was being hosted with Godaddy,
    2) I uploaded the MUWP 2.9 from a script +BuddyPress ..
    4) My initial plan was to create each page starting with the home page from a WORPRESS template and then add/actvate membership user login capability similar to “www.umwblogs.org”.I was able to upload the Current Theme to the marinprofessionals.com hosting account in godaddy which is called :
Sliding Door 1.8.7 by Wayne Connor
    5) Because liability is one of the major concerns our association has, the challenge has been to find and deliver a solution that is not only reliable and easy to maintain but most of all, one that is able to provide security, or in other words, the ability to control and maintain all the private information CONFIDENTIAL.
Also, I was told about LDAP and how it was used to manage centrally-stored information.

So, I contacted Jim Groom at the University of Mary Washington who pioneered the integration of all three products(WP+bbPress and LDAP) quite nicely on the “www.umwblogs.org”. and I was hoping to get WordPressMU, BuddyPress, an LDAP integrated for marinprofessionals…

But now, one bad thing happened:
I forgot to renew the domain name “marinprofessionals.com” and somebody else took the domain name. so I HAVE TO CHANGE THE NAME FROM “marinprofessionals.com” to “marinprofessionals.co” to make the website work again.

    In GODADDY:
Domain : marinprofessionals.com has now changed to marinprofessionals.co
    Hosting Login : wandilly
    Server IP Address : 97.74.215.63
    Dedicated Hosting IP : 173.201.83.101

l have tried to get help/answers from different forums to make it work…
IN SHORT: I am trying to enable multiple users registration capability available with WPMU+BPRESS+LDAP so that each registered MARIN PROFESSIONAL user is able to create their own Blog and manage them. By doing so, I can have each registered user to be added to a directory of users on a more secure form, but I also must CHANGE THE NAME FROM “marinprofessionals.com” to “marinprofessionals.co” to make the website work again. Can anyone help me out please?
    the query bellow didn’t help,
    UPDATE wp_posts SET guid = REPLACE ( guid, ‘http://marinprofessionals.com’, ‘http://marinprofessionals.co’);
I am not able to log in to the wordpress website dashboard, I need your help please

I have a new install, using BP’s latest version, WP3.0 (non-multi-site use), root install and I get the 403 you don’t have permission to access this document page and the url in the browser shows as http://www.mydomainname.com/members/rolandogomez/messages/compose// when I hit the send message button. Notice the double “//” at the end of the URL. Now I’m no coder, but I’ve ran WP sites for quite sometime. I have reloaded all the files again, still nothing. I even tried switching to the BP’s default theme, same problem as in my custom Genesis theme. So I don’t think this is a theme issue. Any help is appreciated. I need to get the PM system working. Thanks, rg.

@r-a-y Yeah, you have simplified the entire problem in one phrase, i’m amazed! ;)

I suppose i should learn to code on wordpress, much more difficult than Joomla! or Nuked for me.

    Hey hachimaki,

Your needs would need to be custom-coded. When a user creates a blog, they have the option to select its privacy. A possible solution involves checking if the blog in question is private; if so redirect to the registration page, if not, leave open to public.

Right now, BP will auto-suggest friends when you start typing their name into the SendTo box in a private message. We currently have the friend funcationality turned off on BP and would like to leave it that way. Is there a way, code modification or plugin, that will enable auto-suggest for non-friends?

Rich this is already patched… if they want to patch it… VERY long/multiple file patch though… in the trac.buddypress.org site.
