    Hi I am using the profile fields date selector to calculate a person’s age

    but as the date selector goes up to the year 2030 people’s age turn out to -19 and what not

    How might I limit the max year limit in the date selector profile field?

    @pete-deane,

    the xprofile component offers all type of html forms fields, except upload box for security reason. This is simply not possible “as is”. The only thing you can do is to copy/paste an URL into a a single line textarea.

    Or invite your user to enter their CV into a multiline textarea. And copy/pasting a formated CV in this box will loose his formating.

    So there is no possibility at this time to join a separate document to a profile.

    See perhaps what you can do with bp group documents plugin.

    Hey all!

    Hopefully a quick one for you.

    I have 3 different Member Directories on my site created using BuddyPress User Account Type Lite plugin. I am hoping to add a filter/search at the top of the lists to filter by one of the Profile Fields. I am using BP Profile Search plugin which is working to some degree.

    At the moment, it is at the top of all the Member Directory lists, however it is not displaying the correct results on two of the directories. The results which display are for the original directory. I have tried changing the Filtered Members List value in Users -> Profile Search, Advanced Options tab as per the documentation but this has not helped.

    You can see the issue here at the following locations:

    http://adoptapet.ie/rescues
    http://adoptapet.ie/pounds
    http://adoptapet.ie/vets

    The resuces page was the original directory on the site, the pounds and vets pages are the second and third ones created. If a search is carried out on pounds or vets, it displays the results for rescues.

    I am using WP 3.5.1, BP 1.6.4 and BP Profile Search 3.2

    I hope someone can help!

    Cheers

    Damien

    Hi there.

    I want to be able to give a profile field to a user by default.

    In this case it is a ranking. I want to be able to assign users a ranking, and have them not be able to change it.

    Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks for your time.

    Anyone have a solution to converting the vertical xprofile field database structure to a horizontal more efficient structure?

    I have 10 million entries in my xprofile_data table and my site crashes everytime i try to filter anything with ajax… very frustrting.

    i am going to extract the important xprofile fields and convert them to a horizontal database structure and point my search box to the new table.

    anyone done this before?

    Add this to your themes functions.php or bp-custom.php:
    `
    /*
    * Remove autolinks created in buddypress profiles
    */
    function remove_xprofile_links() {
    remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘xprofile_filter_link_profile_data’, 9, 2 );
    }
    add_action( ‘bp_init’, ‘remove_xprofile_links’ );
    `

    how can i have an “About me” section in the registration … keywords

    “About me” section like http://testbp.org/members/johnjamesjacoby/profile/ was done by creating a new Profile Field Group then adding xprofile fields for that group. As for keywords, you could create radio or multiple select boxes et al with defined keywords for members to choose from or create a text boxes with instructions to members to list interests separated by commas

    @danspeak12 what specifically are you looking for? xprofile fields can already be set by members to show publicly, for friends only, or for admin only. There’s a plugin to make activity streams show up for friends only https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-activity-for-self-and-friends-only/

    Hi,

    Using WordPress 3.5.1 (not multi-site)
    Using Buddypress 1.6.5

    Is there a way to display ‘not filled in’ profile fields on the user’s profile page with a custom message like ‘Not Given’?

    I have a few fields like age, location, facebook, etc. and it would be great if the user’s profile can show the following:

    _______________________________
    Name: user’s name
    Age: 28
    Location: Not Given
    Facebook: Not Given
    Relationship Status: Not Given
    ________________________________

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the help!

    I know I can add all fields to the ‘Base’ group so it all displays on the same page, but then it will also appear on the signup page which will make the signup page look huge.

    Is there anyway to add elements to the ‘Base’ group and not allow it to appear on the sign-up page?

    Hey guys, I am looking for a way to display all profile fields on the same page once the user clicks on ‘Edit profile’.

    Currently I have three field groups, which are,

    Base(first name, second name )
    Social networks(facebook, twitter, website)
    About(About Me).

    Currently, once the user clicks on ‘Edit’, he is only presented with the ‘Base’ profile fields, namely ‘First name’ and ‘Second Name’. To edit the other fields, he has to click on ‘Social Networks’ and then ‘About’ tabs.

    To make it easier for the user, I would like to display all these fields on the same page (the page the user lands on once he clicks ‘Edit’).

    Is there any way I can achieve this?

    As for youtube I have not still found one that you can have a youtube gallery for say.
    But I did find a active steam plugin that allow the uploads. And I also found other plugin that allow me to host the videos but I weighting the options at the moment on that.

    I did find a nice event plugin thanks to one of the other threads on here after i was digging through the post. So now it comes down to fins a way to custize the profile more than just the fields.

    Hello All,

    Here are my system stats:

    – WordPress 3.5.1
    – Buddypress 1.6.4
    – Huddle Themeforest WordPress Theme

    Here are my currently installed plugins:
    – Akismet
    – BuddyPress 1.6.4
    – BuddyPress Media 2.6.7
    – BuddyPress Portfolio 1.0
    – Buddypress Xprofile Custom Fields Type 1.4.9.3

    When I used the default BuddyPress theme, the HTML wasn’t showing, however, when I use the Huddle them, HTML shows up. I noticed on the original BuddyPress theme, you were able to click on the items that were entered through the form and it would search for uses who had the same item. I can see that the HTML showing is showing that.

    How would I be able to stop that from happening. The Huddle theme is exactly what I’m looking for, and it is a BuddyPress and bbpress theme.

    Please advise.

    The live site is here: http://roger.noyadesigns.ca

    Thank you for all your help!

    Unfortunately as that says nothing about the types of requests going to the Ajax file, it’s not very helpful.

    Is your site using an object cache?

    I’m not quite sure what an object cache is. If it helps, I am using CloudFare with my website.

    How do I find out what requests are going to the Ajax file?

    As for Ajax it is being used far too much, people don’t seem to get why it oughtn’t to be or when it’s even suitable to be used – people love gimmicks and that’s all Ajax is – even if I do like using it myself.

    I have disabled WordPress’ autosave in posts too, which I think uses ajax. As far as I’m aware, I haven’t put any ajax on my website, so I’m assuming the ajax calls must be from the plugins.

    My plugins, if this helps:
    – Advanced Custom Fields
    – Akismet
    – bbPress
    – bbPress Topics for Posts
    – BP Template Pack
    – BuddyPress
    – BuddyPress Custom Profile Menu
    – Custom Post Template
    – GD bbPress tools
    – Google Analyticator
    – Google XML Sitemaps
    – Restrict Content Pro
    – Use Google Libraries
    – WordPress Backup to Dropbox
    – WP Minify

    I’m going to try and move it to the Virtual Server on MT.

    I’ve built a nice small business around vBulletin over the past 10 years. It’s a community site that thrives on user-generated content. And though I’ve had success building a site with that platform I’m not in love with the direction it’s gone – it doesn’t seem to have kept up with the trends of the modern community trends (at least, in my opinion). I think Forum sites will remain strong for a while but will eventually evolve, and I don’t know that vBulletin is going to be in the best position for that transition, which is why I would like to find a different platform to build the next community-driven project around.

    Though I’m critical of vBulletin’s outdated approach to online communities, I’ll be the first to admit that the script has been very scalable and inviting to millions of users looking to connect with (and interact with) others who have a common interest or passion. My next project will need to be built on a platform that can scale at least as well as vBulletin. I can jump over to Google and find countless websites with thousands of online users based on vBulletin, I haven’t found a way to do that same exercise with BuddyPress. The other script I had been seriously considering was phpFox, but I’m growing a little leery about the code and its ability to scale. I just don’t want to get to the point where we’re getting a lot of concurrent users and find that we chose the wrong platform.

    Here’s a list of requirements:

    – Scalable, able to easily handle a few thousand users online at a time
    – Not buggy, don’t want to spend a fortune fixing things that should work
    – Easily modified, with lots of plugins and a big dev-for-hire network
    – Has a ton of social media and community features out of the box
    – Easy to build out different content types and expand upon existing features, like:
    — More robust profile pages, with custom fields added by admin
    — Sub-profile pages, like: User Profile > Vehicle Profile 1 > Vehicle Content (info, videos, photos, blogs, etc)
    — Ability to plug in Facebook-like features
    – Not bloated – unused features can be turned off or removed (something I didn’t like about vB)
    – Easily optimized for search engines, especially the profiles
    – Solid support community where we can get help when we get stuck
    – Secure, obviously

    Again, I’ve been very close to choosing phpFox, as it has most of the features and plugins we’d need right out of the gate, with very little custom work to do what we want. But the built-in SEO features appear to be a little lacking and trying to fix the issues seems to raise flags in the code structure, which brings up questions about the scalability and overall capabilities of the script when the plan is to have a large site with thousands of online users at one time.

    My concerns about BuddyPress – it’s open source, which is risky to build a business around when you’re looking to customize it and add plugins. At least with a paid product you can get some level of support, but once you customize it, you lose out on that a bit. I’m also worried about it being based on a blogging script. A social media/community plugin for a blogging script seems like a risky move, compared to buying a script that is built specifically for a community site (like phpFox or vBulletin).

    I know that asking this here will come with a BP slant, but that’s fine. I really want to find out more about the benefits of the script, why it would be a better choice than something like phpFox or vBulletin, and this is obviously the best place to get that.

    Hi,

    Currently I see the search criteria as ‘Order By’. But, I want to search members by custom profile fields. For example, ‘Location’ or ‘City’. Can some please guide how to add these criteria and get the entire functionality working?

    Regards,
    Sandeep.

    Alright right now I figure out. How to split the accounts as I want But now I’m unsure how to tag some of fields so that the can be used to sort the members in the search by the group tpye and state and position.

    Next I need help on the members page I’m not sure what I need to do. To get what I’m after.
    But here it is.

    -I need a plugin for videos to be kept on the member profile ,But preferable A way to use YouTube as a host for the video

    On 2 types of my profiles I need some features for them such as
    -there own blog on my site found on there page member page and the
    need know how to set up a section so they can have
    -stats
    -standing
    -Season Schedule
    -Roster (hopefully a way to link player on roster to the players profile)
    Which I can make fields for these, But that lacks the interaction I want with these

    And last I need a way to to tag profiles so in a search They only search one of the 5 types of profiles on my site

    Thanks in advance to any info that can help me figure out how to achieve this as this site of mine is for athletes,coach,teams,leagues,and fans so they can find one other and communicate on my site.

    Not sure what your issue is here, create a new profile field with a select drop down then start adding the 202 countries as option fields, set it as required and ensure it’s in the base group so it shows on the register page. On members display you can then check the profile field to see what selection a user has.

    Is there a way to allow members to post content onto the blog (they don’t have their own blog, they just submit content to a main one in which I oversee) and then be able to search through the postings based on member profile fields?

    I know that there is a BP Profile Search plugin that searches for members based on profile fields but what I’m looking for is a way to search or filter through posts based on member profile field criteria.

    Is this possible or is there some sort of plugin available that allows for this?

    Cheers

    hi @jmetzger631

    Assuming you used xprofile component to do so.

    You have to enter the correct profile field name. This means the name, in fact the field title, you entered when you create the profile field.

    Probably “Company” or “Your company” or something readable for your public.

    In BP 1.7/bp-default/members/members-loop.php:67 there is an example who explains this too.

    /***
    * If you want to show specific profile fields here you can,
    * but it’ll add an extra query for each member in the loop
    * (only one regardless of the number of fields you show):
    *
    * bp_member_profile_data( ‘field=the field name’ );
    */

    You can also create a function to insert a do_action in the members-loop.

    In the function, intented to work outside of the profile loop, you need the user id and the xprofile data

    $user_id=bp_get_member_user_id();
    $anything = xprofile_get_field_data (‘the_field_name’, $user_id);
    echo $anything;

    add_action ( ‘a_name_of_your_choice’, ‘your_function_name’)

    and somewhere in the loop, do_action( ‘a_name_of_your_choice’ )
