    Thanks @shawn38.

    I am running WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.5.6

    In my installation there is no `Profile Fields` in the Dashboard > Users navigation path.

    The manner in which I get to `Profile Fields` is Dashboard > Buddy Press > Profile Fields

    The page ends up being “Extended Profile Fields” and under the “Base (Primary)” tab and I click the Edit button for Name (Primary) (Required) there is no Field Description box like there is on all the other profile fields.

    Do you think I have a faulty or incomplete install going on here?

    Appreciate your help…

    That is strange.When you went to Dasboard/Users/Profile Fields and under Base(Primary) and clicked Add New Field it should have took to to where you can add a Field Title, and Field Description. Did you scroll to the bottom and click “Save?”

    haven’t actually tried it myself but it would be something like:

    `

    Country:

    `

    and I’d put that just after the latest updates endif in the members-loop.php

    I’m not a great coder, just learning with buddypress. Let me know if it works

    PS: by doing it that way, you can add some style in style.css

    How can I display member profile fields outside the profile page? For example if I wanted to add everyone’s country to the Member Index page, how would I do that?

    Thanks

    hello,
    Any help to this would be great i’m new to buddypress and I am trying to add a custom Profile Field, a post code to be precise. I want to add a max length to the profile field and limit the number combinations so users can only input the follwoing numbers 1000 through to 1199 and two letters aa through to zz..
    I’ve been searching through the bp xprofile folder but cant seem to find where the custom fields are being added from.
    any help would be great and much appreciated

    `<option value="textbox" maxlength="4" type == ‘textbox’ ){?> selected=”selected”>`

    This is what i’m tring to limit the maxlength but i cant seems to get it to work
    if some one could point me towards a open ticket that explains this I would much appreciated.

    In the BP profile fields, I have the tab control for the New Field Group that I added overlapping the tab for the Base. I believe this was looking fine before upgrading to 1.6 (I upgraded 1.5.6 to 1.6 RC2 to 1.6).

    Maybe related: I have the plugin for CD BuddyPress Avatar Bubble. This one shows the profile fields when you hover over the avatar. Surprisingly, it shows me fields that I removed. Would this be a plugin issue, or some kind of db issue? I thought those fields would just be gone.

    Thanks.

    Thanks, Paul– I hadn’t clicked into edit existing fields so didn’t see the toggles there.

    In what way? There is an option in the profile fields admin screen to allow an admin to set a specific profile visibility for a specific field.

    Thanks for your prompt response! I haven’t added any field that says, “Write down whats your favorite hobby is”, and I have also looked into “Profile Fields” under the “Users” menu, but there’s also nothing there?! So, I don’t get it where’s this field coming from?

    It’ll be a profile field set up in wp-admin. Look for “Profile Fields” under the “Users” menu, and delete it.

    Is there any way to change Profile field visibility only to admins ?
    I mean only admins can see some of the profile fields .
    Thanks

    @jloc14 Install and activate @modemlooper ‘s BuddyPress Extended Settings plugin from here https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-extended-settings/
    In the dashboard go to BuddyPress/Extended Settings put a check beside “Profile Field Links Disable auto linking of user profile fields” and at the bottom click “Save Changes.” This will remove the auto linking of those profile fields. Alternatively you can create a file named bp-custom.php and place it in the plugins directory and copy and paste in the below code:
    `<?php
    // hacks and mods will go here
    function remove_xprofile_links() {
    remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘xprofile_filter_link_profile_data’, 9, 2 );
    }
    add_action( ‘bp_init’, ‘remove_xprofile_links’ );
    ?>`
    Save the file and this will accomplish the same goal.

    HI all,
    I saw a post about this earlier today but it seems a bit old and not too much was there on what to alter/change so I am posting in a new post.

    I am trying to combine all my profile groups into a single edit screen. I currently have 2 forms on the page with 2 separate save buttons. Which works fine. But I’d like to have a single form with a single button. I tried to use a single form but the form only saved a single profile group fields. I believe the problem lies within these 2 methods: “bp_the_profile_group_edit_form_action” and “bp_the_profile_group_field_ids” but can’t narrow down what/where to alter the code.

    Also in bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-screens.php there is this method “xprofile_screen_edit_profile” which I think may have something to do with it as well.

    Questions:
    1. Can I hook into the “xprofile_screen_edit_profile” method and use my own code to save the profile data.?
    2. How can I get all the profile field ids without using two separate forms and save buttons? Is there a method I can use to loop through all profile groups and their fields to send to “bp_the_profile_group_field_ids”?
    3. Does this deserve it’s own plugin?

    I am sure this is possible but need a push in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

    I was wondering if it is possible to extend the functionality for `bp_filter_request` to include specific arguments or fields when searching – at the moment, it seems that only some types of custom profile fields and the username are included by default when running a member search, but it would be great if specific fields could also be included / excluded from the search (e.g. the ‘primary’ field).

    I’m aware that `bp_filter_request` takes an ‘extras’ argument, but I’m not sure what arguments takes, or if this allows for something specific to be included in the search.

    Hey guys.

    I’m wondering 1.) why text put into the various profile fields are appearing as links and 2.) how do you stop this from happening? It makes the page look really ugly IMO and I’d like to be able to turn the links ‘off’.

    Here’s an example – http://www.mycollectr.com/members/joemd/profile/

    Thanks in advance.

    Just updated! the new privacy option added to the profile fields are creating confusion in my setup. Is there a way I can disable it?

    I requested urgent help on this please.

    Thank you very much :-)

    I’m wondering if there are shortcodes of sorts that will display a logged in user’s fields. I would like to have a welcome page for a user that greets them similar to how WordPress does it on the Admin bar: “Howdy, Username”. I’d like to diplay the user’s Full name and 3 custom profile fields I configured using Buddy Press. Does something like that exist?

    If you want validation as they type / enter — hook some jQuery onto your form. [That’s standard jQuery form validation, for which you’ll be able to Google for plenty of examples]

    In your jQuery, you can call out (POST) to your PHP validation function. Look up AJAX in WordPress for details on how to do this – in particular you are interested in using admin-ajax.php and registering your function as an action. You then specify that action in your jQuery AJAX call.

    You might also want to look at some of the WordPress data validation functions.

    It’s not a perfect solution but have you look at gravity forms for registation forms and BuddyPress? http://www.gravityforms.com/
