    John – have you resolved this question? I’m interested in doing the same thing… would be grateful for guidance if you’ve been able to achieve what you described.

    Hello,
    i was wondering if anyone could help me how can i do this, basically i want to add custom fields and load them up separately and basically when people click on the custom field it will edit automatically and form box will appear instantly which allows users to edit there profile fields instantly without going into profile edit here’s an example of what i want to add http://www.ofbrooklyn.com/2010/03/24/code-snippet-jquery-edit-in-place/

    What does this mean “matches the page” ?

    You need to know the field_id (numeric) of the profile field(s) you want to match.
    Take a look at this:
    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/search-member-profile-fields-by-url/

    Untested, but try this:

    `
    add_action (‘xprofile_updated_profile’, ‘profile_change_notify’);
    function profile_change_notify ($id, $posted_field_ids, $errors) {
    $global $wpdb;

    if( $errors )
    return;

    $names = ”;

    foreach( (array)$posted_field_ids as $field_id ) {
    $sql = ” SELECT name FROM wp_bp_xprofile_fields WHERE id = ‘$field_id’ “;
    $name = $wpdb->get_var( $sql );
    if( $name == ‘Country’ || $name == ‘City’ )
    $names .= ‘ ‘ . $name;

    }

    if( $names != ” ) {
    $user = new WP_User ($id);
    wp_mail (‘myname@mydomain.com’, ‘Subject ( ‘ . $user->user_login . ‘ just updated the Profile )’, $names);
    }
    }
    `

    When a user updates their profile field “Country” or “City” with a new value, I want to be notified with only the field that has new value. Currently I’m using this but doesn’t tell which fields have been modified:
    `add_action (‘xprofile_updated_profile’, ‘profile_change_notify’);
    function profile_change_notify ($vars = array ())
    {
    $user = new WP_User ($vars);
    wp_mail (‘myname@mydomain.com’, ‘Subject ( ‘ . $user->user_login . ‘ just updated the Profile )’, ‘Message Body goes here.’);
    }`

    I appreciate any help..

    This Plugin may help, tested on a single site, hasn’t been tested on a multi-site install. I was having the same issue, so I had this developed. Let me know if it works for you.

    FYI: I submitted it to WP for inclusion in their repository, should be there soon.

    I’m looking to do something similar but for a template. I’d like to have an author bio at the top of author pages.

    Currently using WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5.1
    I am using the new BP registration form and am largely happy with it.
    Once a user has registered they have the capacity to edit the extended profile fields from the registration, together with email and password but there is no access to the WP contact and biographical information fields. As admin I can see and edit them but ordinary users can’t.

    Hello All,

    I would like to be able to Insert BP extended profile fields into Custom Posts.

    Has anyone done this before?

    Hello All,

    I have been searching for a few months on how to get images show up in BuddyPress Extended Profiles. Alex wrote an awesome coding post about how to hack this here: http://alextheafrican.wordpress.com/2012/03/10/how-to-add-an-image-field-to-buddypress-extended-profile-fields/

    It would be nice if this functionality were part of BuddyPress Core.

    Hi,

    When users used to register on my site, they would put their name in the primary ‘Name’ field, ie; John Smith and it would be split up. John would go into ‘First Name’, Smith would go into ‘Last Name’, their nickname would be John Smith and their display as name would be John Smith.

    For some reason this has stopped happening.

    Upon registration the First/Last Name fields are left blank, their username is being used as the nickname and their full name is being used as the display as field.

    Once they update their profile for the first time though it fies itself and their WP profile is updated with the correct information.

    I am trying to think what has changed in the past two months and the only thing I can remember doing was upgrading BP to the latest version and activating MU and then deactivating it. Nothing else.

    Any assistance solving this problem would be fantastic!

    If you’re trying to load members-overview.php as a separate page, take a look at this plugin:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/allow-php-in-posts-and-pages/

    If not, then use the bp-custom approach I mentioned above – you’ll need to learn it anyway.

    Basically, you need to ask better questions, ie. what, where – exactly, why etc.
    Use http://pastie.org/ and show your code.

    members-overview.php only loads when i put locate_template( array( ‘members/single/members-overview.php’), true ); into member-header.php and then display the member profile page.

    I need to get members-overview.php to work outside the loop. The idea is to be able to display profile fields anywhere and not just display them on the member profile page.

    @mercime i reinstall everything form 0 using a backup of my Data Base and it fail, so i think its an error in my DB what is wrong, so maybe ill have to reset my page :(

    Are you sure members-overview.php is loading ?
    Do a simple echo in that file to check.

    also try : locate_template( array( ‘members/single/members-overview.php’), true );

    Thanks shanebp but I do need to create members-overview.php.

    How can I insert profile data into this file once i’ve created it?

    bp_get_profile_field_data( ‘field=Location’ ); doesn’t seem to work so I am assuming I need to have a loop somewhere which makes the profile data available to that file?

    Hope someone can give me some pointers on this?

    @mercime it didn´t work so ill to reinstall from 0 and then mount a backup of my DB and my wp-content y hope it fix it.

    So overview.php creates some html that you want to reuse in various template pages ?

    You probably better off just creating a function in bp-custom.php.
    Then call that function wherever you like.

    Apologies if someone else has already raised this – I’m sure there must be a way for me to search to see, but I’m buggered if I can find it! :-)

    Would be good to be able to specify profile field by profile field if they should be on the ‘sign-up’ page, rather than having one group where everything is. It means that if you would logically have one or two ‘key’ fields completed on sign-up – e.g. name and country – it’s a challenge to then have groups for “Your Details” and “Your Location” that sit ‘logically’. (Sorry … maybe it’s just me being anal!)

    Anyway … a ‘nice to have’, not a ‘deal breaker’. :-)

    bp_displayed_user_fullname();

    bp_get_profile_field_data( ‘field=Location’ );

    I am currently using these functions in members/single/member-header.php and they are working great.

    However, I just created a new php file “members/single/member-overview.php” and when I try to insert these functions in there nothing shows up. What can I be doing wrong?

    The reason for creating member-overview.php is i’d like to reuse its contents in a few places using something like:

    locate_template( array( ‘member-overview.php’), true );

    Hello,

    I am making my first Buddypress child theme with version 1.5.2
    Once I hit the register button, the page only refreshes and does not create a new user.

    Any ideas? Here is my /registration/register.php file:

    `

    <img src="/images/thumbs.png” alt=”thumb” />

    Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem accusan- tium doloremque laudantium, totam

    Register a new account

    <input type="text" name="signup_username" id="signup_username" value="” />

    <input type="text" name="signup_email" id="signup_email" value="” class=”email” />

    <input type="hidden" name="signup_profile_field_ids" id="signup_profile_field_ids" value="” />

    `

    Hey Thanks @shanebp
    I’ll give that a try…

    Actually, I think I got it. I’ve just put a link in the BP profile and WP profile so at least the user can access those fields to edit.

    gmxperry
    Participant

    That’s true, I hadn’t even thought of that. Is there any way for me to add a link in the “Edit” profile option which will direct them to the WP profile?

    I guess I should say, I’m sure there’s a way, I’m just not sure which file I would have to make changes to in order to get that to display properly.

    Thanks for your reply!
