Hi:

This is a corrected version of a support query I raised the other day. I realised I had two plugins in use which were not helping and which are now deleted. But no change.

However the issue described below persists.

Plugins deleted: bbPress Enable TinyMCE Visual Tab (out of date) and Buddypress xProfile Rich Text Field (deprecated because rich text functionality now built-in to multi line profile field).

Where necessary I have changed all my extended profile fields to multi-line.

BUT:

When I edit and add a URL on the profile front end the dialog box is displayed incorrectly. It appears below the page footer as a set of fields rather than a properly styled dialog box. Weird. (Link editign works fine on the back end).

The theme developer (X Theme) say this is not a theme issue.

Hi:

I have various rich text fields in my buddypress profiles.

When I edit and add a URL the dialog box is displayed incorrectly. It appears below the page footer as a set of fields rather than a properly presented dialog box. Weird, messy confusing to users! (Issue drawn to my attention by a user.)

Is this a known issue? Does anyone have any advice?

I tried downgrading Buddypress to 2.4 so match the theme requirements but this made no difference

Why in the world is it this difficult? This should be in buddypress core. Considering that buddypress is supposed to be a social network out of the box, and member profiles are such an integral part of any social network, very little thought has gone into the profiles page.

Compare adding fields in buddypress to any other social network platform (elgg, oxwall, jcow, dolphin, etc.) and it’s just not there. Why should I have to dig into code just to add a profile field. There should be a drag and drop profile builder.

Avatar location, cover photo, customizable sections and profile fields; they should all be drag and drop.

I wish I was a coder. This is #1 on my priority list of buddypress improvements.

I’d love to know more about this as well. I’ve been trying to find anything on modifying and customizing the profile page, but there is a serious lack of info on this subject. It’s like everyone using buddypress is perfectly willing to accept a crappy and mediocre profile page.

The most frustrating part for me is the simple inability to add custom fields from the backend to the profile page. Why in the hell is this so difficult?

Anyway, sorry for the mini rant, but at least I know I’m not alone in my quest.

Hello,

i try to let users edit their profile fields in a thickbox “popup”.

Here’s the code which is working so far BUT it’s not showing empty fields and i don’t get the clue why because it’s the same code like in /single/profile/edit.php.

Hi folks,

So on my site about a year ago i had Buddypress and bbpress installed on my site but recently decided to remove buddypress and keep bbpress. The only issue is that i’m not sure which database tables to delete below! I know that bbpress and buddypress are kinda related so don;t want to mess up bbress.

You can add profile fields via wp-admin > Users > Profile Fields

My guess is that another plugin or some custom code or your theme is trying to apply a filter to
bp_get_the_profile_field_id but the $field is not available.

Try deactivating any plugins that deal with profile fields.

To confirm that the issue is in your theme, try switching momentarily to a WP theme like 2013.

I believe this not an issue because BP only needs an email, username and a password to do a succesfull registration. All other inputs may change for each site.

You can use a plugin(like “contact form”) to create registration forms and then assign form inputs into custom created xprofile fields.

How can I enable or disable xprofile fields in a group. I can see that this is possible for an individual field but I was wondering if this was also possible for a group of xprofile fields as well.

Still working on this, I discovered something while debugging:
It seems apparent to me that the “Enable BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncing” option is the culprit, but would that be a bug that the setting is grabbing the wrong values because even if I don’t hook into bp_core_activated_user the meta values that were successfully stored at registration are then wiped during activation? For example:
- first_name becomes the username
- last_name is cleared completely
Setting the priority to 20 the results show that by that point the originally stored meta_value(s) have already been wiped.

There is no user_id field in bp_xprofile_fields.
The correct table is bp_xprofile_data.

value is a text field, so you need quotes: AND value = '45'";

Instead of AND value !empty"; try AND value != ''";

$wpdb->get_var returns a single value. Try $wpdb->get_col.

Your issues could have been solved by examining the table structure and reading reference docs like https://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/wpdb.

Hello,

I am trying to get user_ids of users that have field a certain filed in their profiles to show only them in a custom members loop.

global $wpdb; $db_query = "SELECT user_id FROM wp_bp_xprofile_fields WHERE field_id = 2 AND value !empty"; $match_ids = $wpdb->get_var($db_query); $get_these_members = '&per_page=20&type=newest&include=' .$match_ids; if ( bp_has_members($get_these_members) ) :

I think there’s a syntax error, and !empty is not the correct way for this, I tried a lot of options non of the works.
To test it, I tried this line:
$db_query = "SELECT user_id FROM wp_bp_xprofile_fields WHERE field_id = 2 AND value = 45";
where 45 is the value of the filed for one of the members, but it still doesn’t show any member.

I found that I need to implode the user_ids list from the forum, but it doesn’t help neither.

It returns ‘Sorry, no members were found.’
when I enable wp_debug appears this error
‘WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘user_id’ in ‘field list’]’

Could you please help me?

“Tab Base”

To delete Base and all other fields groups names in user profile:
1. find in your theme file /buddypress/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php
2. Delete in that file: this line: <h4><?php bp_the_profile_group_name(); ?></h4>

If you don’t have such file in your theme, than copy this file:
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php
into your theme here:
/wp-content/themes/[your-theme]/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php
and remove the line that I wrote above (with h4).

Members Directory – All Members

1. find in your theme file /buddypress/members/index.php
2. Delete in that file the line with this text: id="members-all"

If you don’t have such file in your theme – do the same thing as written above but for index.php file.

You should understand, that this will break ability to filter results on members directory page.

Hi to everyone,
I’m new with buddypress, so i would show some columns in the admin user view (/wp-admin/users.php).
I’ve created 2 custom field in extended profiles (/wp-admin/users.php?page=bp-profile-setup) so i would insert this 2 custom field in the panel where the admin can edit/view all users (about 30 members).
The two custom fields are numerical, so the user can update manually this value.
Please could you tell me how i can make this?

I have a custom registration form that tweaked the registration.php template to include a couple additional inputs. The form works as expected, being processed through the buddypress channels

bp_core_screen_signup()

Then I hook into the bp_core_signup_user like so:

Through my custom add_registration_metadata() method I store the $_POST meta to the user_id like so:

As expected all the values are set in the usermeta table. I would think this is all that is left to do but its not and there is some confusion as to what is happening next.

So now the user attempts to activate their account through their email obviously passing the activation key. This works! BUT my metadata values are gone. For some reason BuddyPress wipes the values stored in the usermeta table. So then I try to hook into the bp_core_activate_signup like so:

This custom method attempts to re-update the user information but for some reason no combination seems to work, here’s what I have at the moment:

Any clues as to how I can update the first & last names (not using some xprofile field that redundantly stores the same information), as well as any other custom fields I may add in the future. It’s seems I’m on the right track, this just is working right now.

All fields that are in the first Base fields groups will appear on registration page.
So you can just move those fields to another fields group, that you can create on this page /wp-admin/users.php?page=bp-profile-setup using this link http://cosydale.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=bp-profile-setup&mode=add_group.

Another option

Find the ID of a field that you want to hide in admin area (when you edit the field it’s in the URL like this /wp-admin/users.php?page=bp-profile-setup&group_id=1&field_id=2&mode=edit_field = field_id=2 is what you need), make sure that this field is NOT required, then open style.css of your theme and add there something like this:
#profile-details-section.register-section .editfield.field_2 {display:none}

Hello!

I want to hide some profile fields on registration, and I also want that the users can fill all fields after registration.

So on the registration the users fill some basic information, and after the activation they can complete their profile.

I hope it is understandable.

I’m probably misunderstanding the question but for the first part (“List each field where I want”) are you trying to control the order the fields appear to a user on this page?

your.website/members/admin/profile/edit/group/1/

If so, have you already tried reordering them in admin panel -> users -> profile fields ?

Hi

I’m changing the profile edit form on the front end. What I am trying to do is:
- List each field where I want rather than BP just looping through each profile field
- I want to be able to customise the classes for the fields as I am using Twitter Bootstrap
Currently I have to this to loop through the fields and only show the field I want where I want it:
