In reply to: Transitioning from 1.5.x to 1.6
r-a-yKeymaster@bmk0220 – mrjarbenne was incorrect; bp-custom.php belongs in /wp-content/plugins/. You need to wrap the code with opening and closing PHP tags. Read the corresponding article here:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/—
Sorry guys, I meant to close this thread to prevent replies and that’s what I’m going to do now. Please create new topics for your support questions. Thanks everyone!
August 6, 2012 at 2:31 pm #138487In reply to: BuddyPress 1.6 is now available
Art LoParticipantHi!
Is there reaaly anybody from BuddyPress answering to all these questions?
It’s a shame launching a new update and NOT SUPPORTING us. Plase somebody Answer.I have upgraded from version 1.5 to 1.6 but nothing’s working.
I decided to uninstall 1.5 and then install 1.6 but no files or option are showing after installing it through ftp since installation directly from WordPress does not work.
What’s this bug and and can I fix this?
Thanks;August 4, 2012 at 12:10 am #138387r-a-yKeymaster@notpoppy – You have the right idea that your code is loading before BuddyPress and you are also correct to have read the Checking if BuddyPress is active codex article.
Now, you just need to connect the dots!
1. Create a new folder (eg. /my-bp-plugin/).
2. Copy and paste the contents of what you wrote above into a new file (eg. /my-bp-plugin/my-bp-plugin.php).
3. Now, copy and paste the contents of the codex article into a new file (eg. /my-bp-plugin/loader.php) into the folder you just created. Make sure to change the file path and name to the ones you created above as well as the meta data at the top of the file.
4. You should now have a folder with two files. Move this folder into the /wp-content/plugins/ directory, navigate to the WP admin dashboard and activate the plugin! If you have any other questions, let me know.

Tammie ListerModeratorCool start, you’ve posted this in the gallery section so probably for your questions you would get more responses if you put them each in a post in one of the other forums. For instance the ‘Creating and Extending’ for customisation or ‘Installing BuddyPress’ for setting up, or ‘How-To and Troubleshooting’ for any issues and after set up.
As far as commenting on the site I’d love to see the front page show more of the community within. I always think it’s a shame to just have a wall of text when you land on a community. Maybe expand on the logo styling and rough up (for want of a better design term) the other elements. I’m a sucker for a bit of personality in a site and think considering your topic you could do that fairly easily.
August 2, 2012 at 9:55 am #138301In reply to: How to create new dynamic menu including BP links?
Roger CoathupParticipant.. and here’s a write up on how to use hooks (or in this case filters), to add your dynamic menu item:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10644384/dynamic-url-in-wordpress-navigation
Obviously, you’ll have to adapt the code to add your BuddyPress profile links.
You can also ignore the comment about playing with the priority number for ordering (that’s nonsense). You’d have to take the item list (incoming parameter), and manipulate that – inserting your menu at the right point.
It’s not ‘cut and paste’ though, and you’ll need some reasonable PHP development skills to get it set up correctly.

July 22, 2012 at 10:00 pm #137809In reply to: How can I find my topic
AsynapticParticipant@modemlooper, changing his profile/username will only show activity going forward, not retroactively
@sp12 what modemlooper is trying to say is that there is a strange feature at buddypress.org which hides your activity stream (due to spam concerns) so a way around it is to change your profile and edit your name field to something else other than 12sp (I changed mine from Synaptic to Asynaptic)
when you make the change you’ll be able to then see your activities on this site going forward, but you will NOT see activity prior to making the change, so your best bet is to recall keywords and then to search google like this (remove quotes of course):
“site:buddypress.org KEYWORD”
and hope that it has been crawled in google.
This “feature” to fight spam has been a source of questions by MANY users here at buddypress.org so much so that it seems the best bet is to either change it or to at least INFORM people once they register that they must change their name/username to be able to see their activity!
No idea why mods ignore this – it would not only cut down on confused questions but also improve usability of the site since prior activity is never shown, even when the change is made.

July 22, 2012 at 7:03 am #137774@mercimeParticipant@michaeljdornan it’s unfortunate that sbrajesh’s Join Blog Widget for WPMS doesn’t work in your WP MultiNetwork /BP MultiNetwork installation. Following options are available: you’d have to code one or hire a developer to do so for you or wait for a developer to release a free plugin just like the Join Blog Widget for your set up.
July 22, 2012 at 12:55 am #137764michaeljdornanMemberHi @mercime, so it seems the plugin you suggested would work great if I were using sbrajesh plugin, but I’m using wpmuguru plugin so it doesn’t seem to work….
Any other ideas? Seems such a basic need to allow people to be part of the sites rather than admin control it, I sent a message to wpmuguru Ron and got the below:
“This question doesn’t have anything to do with BP Multi-network. If you have a single WP network with subsites, you still have the same situation where people cannot become members of sites (without assistance).
Either a super admin or the site admin has to add a user to a subsite in WP networks.”

July 21, 2012 at 8:39 pm #137757In reply to: Portfolio plugin
Roger CoathupParticipantHi Auktweena — that plugin is not related to BuddyPress, so you would be better off asking questions on the forum for the plugin, or on the wordpress.org forums.
As for step 3 – that’s standard ‘stuff’ for integrating a plugin’s templates into the theme you’re using for your website. This article gives you an introduction to theme development in WordPress: https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development
Generally, theme work requires PHP development experience. In your case, to get the basics up and running, it looks like you just need to copy some files… you’ll need an FTP client to navigate and copy / move around the files on your website.

Hugo AshmoreParticipantIt’s vital to read the posts carefully and pick up on all the questions that may be asked by us as they are all asked for a definite reason and will allow us to work out the issue and hopefully the solution quickly with minimum of posts

July 18, 2012 at 11:47 am #137494PE ScholarMemberI created this user for myself for testing in the early stages of site development, before we imported content from Ning (thought I’d add that in case it’s relevant). This problem started around the time I deleted this user – perhaps there’s some disconnect between this table, and others on deletion where certain conditions exist, I don’t know? I’m afraid I don’t have exact replication steps though.
Happy to help if you have any further questions though? As I say, workaround seems to be just straight deleting the record in the table, but I suppose that’s only good if the user account has, or can be, deleted.
July 17, 2012 at 1:47 pm #137432In reply to: BuddyPress issue since upgrading WordPress
Roger CoathupParticipantYou’ll probably need to upgrade your BuddyPress version for compatibility with the latest version of WordPress.
Unfortunately, a number of look / feel aspects typically change when you upgrade BuddyPress (particularly coming from a relatively old version). It often requires developer support to upgrade and retain your site’s design.
Some questions that will help you get further support:
What version of BuddyPress are you on / were you on previously?
Which ‘off the shelf’ theme (if any) are you using?
If bespoke theme – is it a child of another theme – which version?
July 17, 2012 at 3:22 am #137417@mercimeParticipant@michaeljdornan best place to ask is at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/bp-multi-network wpmuguru does answer forum questions
Having said that, you can try this plugin which I know works with the other BP MultiNetwork plugin by sbrajesh http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-join-blog-widget-for-wordpress-multisite/
July 16, 2012 at 11:04 am #137376In reply to: [Resolved] What table are pages meta stored in?
frank trediciMemberPerfect. Thanks @mercime. Appreciate your help…
I typically post my questions in both the WP forum and this forum. It seems to increase my chances of getting assistance from “never getting assistance” to “getting some assistance within a few days”. Both forums are not as active as many others out there on the net that I participate in.
July 16, 2012 at 8:01 am #137367In reply to: buddypress-bbpress forums,members pages not working
Paul Wong-GibbsKeymasterIf you only want sitewide forums (not group forums as well):
In wp-admin in BuddyPress > Components, disable the “Forums” component. Go to the Pages menu in wp-admin, and if you have a page called “forums”, delete it (you don’t need it any more).
In wp-admin, go to Plugins > Add New, and search for and install and activate the “bbPress” plugin. You should see something like version 2.1 of that plugin.Once done, you should be able to start using bbPress for sitewide forums. If you have specific questions about how to make bbPress do non-BuddyPress things, the best place to ask is on bbpress.org.
