MemberIn our case, it turned out to be a permalinks issue. The registration form would be submitted, but not directed to the right script. Make sure your .htaccess file is writeable, the resave your Permalink settings.

ParticipantIn order for your users to register sites, you need to enable Multi-site. Once that’s done, you should be able to go into the Network Admin menu in the top right corner. From there, Settings on the Left has a Registration Settings area to Allow New Registrations. The available radio buttons allow you to decide whether your users can register Sites. This also enables the “Create A Blog!” option in the BuddyBar along the top.
On the root site (where buddypress is installed I assume), I would leave the General Setting as subscriber. Your users will be Admin on their own blogs, but you don’t want them messing about with your root blog.

MemberI don’t know if this is where I need to be posting this. i’m having two issues with the avatar page in registration.
1. when I upload and crop an avatar, it doesn’t “take”; I end up with the default (mystery man) avatar. But I can re-upload and crop via MyProfile>ChangeAvatar, and the avatar then is saved. Not sure, after skimming all posts in this discussion, how to deal with this.
2. more importantly to me, from a user standpoint, is the lack of direction from the avatar page. When first arriving, I’m told “we’ve fetched an avatar for your new account…” but there’s no means of actually accepting that avatar. My only options are “Choose File” and “Upload Image”. As a user, I am FORCED to upload an image (which, from #1, is then lost anyway). If I do upload an image, I am then returned to the same avatar page with the default (mystery man) avatar and the same two options (Choose File and Upload Image).
Some help establishing a simple “accept this avatar” button would be appreciated.
I’m using most current BuddyPress 1.2.8 with WP3.1.2.
Thanks

MemberIn ‘Network Admin’, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Settings’ and then the 3rd selection down (under Registration Settings) make sure you select the radio button ‘Both sites and user accounts can be registered’.
You’ll then find the Registration login widget enabled in the sidebar of your site.

Participant== move the Activity, Registration and Members folders to TwentyTen theme ==
You don’t “move” the BP folders to your theme, you need to
1. have Twenty Ten theme activated
2. install the BP Template Pack plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
3. follow the instructions of the BP Compatibility Process https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
If you need some pointers for the whole process, read this – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/

I have not tried this yet but soon will. I’ve been waiting for a year for this solution. I wonder why the BP gurus dropped the ball on this.

Participant1. Go to members/single/profile/edit.php in your theme.
2. Find and delete this line ``
3. Paste this `` after each instance of this line ` `.
And it’s a similar sort of process for the register.php – found in the registration folder in your theme.
Sloppy, but oh well.May 18, 2011 at 2:42 am #112508tnd
MemberI am very sorry for bumping, but this is sort of a crucial problem I need to fix, as this website is somewhat time-sensitive. If anyone has an idea on how to remedy it, I would be extremely grateful.
Again, I am just looking for a way to use the plugin instead of the default registration page.May 17, 2011 at 8:13 pm #112499In reply to: profile field setup question

MemberI’m using latest BP / WP 3.1.1. I have the added field in the first group and it now will stop the user regsitration if they do not complete that field BUT no new users are getting the validation email. I’ve got various users on different IPs and email domains – all local and they appear to finish the registration but never get the validation email and I never see their information on the admin side because that last step is not done. Yet – I get 1 phony user registrationeach day from an IP address from China. This may not be a Buddypress issue but I’m stumped and so is my IT department. I personally was able to complete registration from my home computer and my work one, which has much higher security but that was 4 months ago. I’m concerned that one of the updates in the last 4 months is causing my problem since it worked for me in January. http://fayettevilleforward.org/

ParticipantThanks for the help. Enabling user registration did the trick, but I’m still getting Page not found errors whenever I click on anything beyond the first page. I’ve set up custom permalinks, but it didn’t change anything. Any suggestions?

KeymasterYou need to enable user registration: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-enable-user-registration-log-in
And make sure you’ve set custom permalinks. Otherwise, we’ll need more details to help

ParticipantYou can map profile fields from Facebook to BuddyPress with WP-FB-Autoconnect with custom code. It is indeed on the roadmap!

MemberThanks for replying.
Well, we have a very specific, slightly unorthodox, design in mind for the registration page. For one, the plugin’s ‘Disclaimer’ box is exactly what I was looking for, without trying to edit any BuddyPress code (which I would prefer not to do). It just seems more flexible, especially since I am somewhat of a beginner in the world of web building and design.
So, I suppose my question is this: can I use the plugin registration form instead of the one that came with BuddyPress?May 12, 2011 at 8:40 pm #112182Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterI don’t think there’s any way of integrating these two similar, but different, beasts. What type of registration field do you find BuddyPress lacking in? Privacy options?

KeymasterYou’d have to build it yourself. Are you familiar with building widgets? If not, you may need to find a developer unless you learn.

KeymasterCheck Facebook’s T&C; I’m pretty sure they don’t let you store user profile data, other than a username, in an external system.
