    OK I installed the shouty theme from buddydress and uploaded the functions.php from bphome.

    Now I see the shouty theme for the home page and the blog page but see the bphome theme for the groups members and blog pages!

    Is there any other files I need to upload

    Regards

    i’ve resolved the problem with wpmu 2.7.1 + bp 1.0 + bbpress 0.9.0.4 + deep integration

    i’ve followed the 3d plus i’ve installed THIS plugin, works great and now i can login in bbpress use the wp/bp theme and access in bb-admin.

    **NOTE**: i’ve used the 0.9.0.4 to have a bbpress forum like this site and NOT to use it for groups etc or with the component bp-forums.

    Hi Guys,

    The warnings have gone!

    I just opened up the site and they have gone very strange!

    Anyway lets see how I get on with the custom theme and I will add the functions file and see if it works.

    Regards

    Mal

    It’s Automattic’s theme, and they use it on http://wpdevel.wordpress.com/

    Ok I see you have position relative set for both on the header, this allows for some handy position absolute inside.

    Set the margin on the #nav and #nav li to 0 and leave all the other properties, then set the nav to position: absolute, and top: -5px, right 20px(or your pref from the right)

    #header ul#nav {
    margin: 0;
    position: absolute;
    top: -5px;
    right: 20px;
    }
    #header ul#nav li {
    marign:0 0 0 18px;
    }

    This should make it more consistent instead of fighting with negative margins.

    First, off I’m tired and just thinking out loud here.

    Let’s go back one potential issue. Did you find whitespace before the opening and/or after the closing PHP tags?

    Next, concerning the livequery error message, I do not think that it is related to the issue in this thread. The “offending” code is found in widget-groups.js. I’m guessing that if you remove the Groups widget from your theme, that error will go away.

    BP uses version 1.0.2 of the Live Query module for JQuery. Maybe if BP upgraded to v1.0.3, which may then also require updating JQuery to v1.2.x, this error may go away.

    But, I don’t think it is of concern for your particular issue. Try removing the Groups widget and see if it disappears.

    Hi DJPaul,

    I am interested in the P2 theme for BP as well.

    Could you please send me the URL of your website at which you are using the P2 with BP (in order to see how this works) ?

    Am willing to pay a couple beers as well if I am gonna be using it……

    jcoaster2008-

    This thread has not had any activity in more than 1 month. Since then, the BuddyPress codebase has changed considerably, so the solutions presented here may be out of date.

    I’m having the same issue, but I don’t know how to fix it. I see the solution but don’t know how to implement it myself. Is there code I need to change somewhere to fix it?

    The bit you’d want to change is /[membertheme]/directories/blogs/blogs-loop.php line 16, the call to bp_the_site_blog_avatar_thumb().

    I’m too tired to figure out how to get the author/owner ID from the blog ID. If we could figure that out, you’d just change that bp_the_site_blog_avatar_thumb() function call appropriately and it would be easy, though you would be changing a core file (making future BP upgrades a PITA).

    That’s the quick way. A better way would be to make use of the filter called ‘bp_get_blogs_blog_avatar_thumb_BLOGID’. In something like bpcustom.php, you would somehow get WPMU to return an array of all the blog IDs on the site. You’d then be able to write one function and call it via add_filter and then do exactly the same as in the “quick way” above.

    Hopefully someone else can dig in and suggest how to get the author ID from the blog ID, then you can decide which to go for. I’d recommend the latter solution – though more complicated to do, saves time later.

    @Burt: you were asking for BP_ROOT_BLOG id… how do I find that out?

    @Jeff: answers to your questions embedded below.

    1. Which version of WPMU are you running? 2.7.1

    2. Did you install WPMU as a directory or subdomain install? subdomains

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory?

    4. Did you upgraded from a previous version of WPMU? If so, from which version? Yes, I upgraded wpmu when I upgraded bp to 1.0 (not sure what previous version of WPMU was)

    5. Was WPMU functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress? I don’t know because I installed it as part of BP install, and didn’t test it separately

    6. Which version of BuddyPress are you running? 1.0

    7. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? 3 plugin widgets of my own that display posts from the database

    8. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? customised themes

    9. If running bbPress, which version? 1.0-rc-1

    10. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files

    [Tue Jun 02 18:46:20 2009] [error] [client 78.149.72.128] File does not exist: /home/live2run/public_html/wp-content/themes/2live2runmagazine/images/background.gif, referer: http://2live2run.co.uk/

    I just did a quick test. In the home theme at least (wp-content/themes/bphome/header.php) the global nav at the top is already hardcoded. So it’s dead easy to hide the groups and members links simply by wrapping it with this:

    <?php if(is_user_logged_in()): ?>

    [ links for logged in users only go here ]

    <?php endif; ?>

    In my template, the “groups” and “members” links appear on lines 48-53.

    Note that the last item in the navigation is:

    <?php do_action( 'bp_nav_items' ); ?>This function could pulling in more navigation links if you are using any plugins… like bp-events for instance.

    That said… I like the solution in this thread much better.

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1651&page=2

    The “solution” above is very “low tech” and in fact, isn’t really a solution since it doesn’t actually restrict access… it just hides some links. Probably not a good way to go. You could probably still get into a group by… let’s say… clicking on someone’s profile link and then clicking on a link to a group they are a member of.

    Ah, right. Thanks for the answer, Jeff!

    I was just thinking that it would give a framework that could be adapted to the BuddyPress default theme, so that you could offer a ‘BuddyPress default’ theme for bbPress. After all, a lot of people are going to use the BuddyPress default theme with minimal alteration, because it’s neat, clean and tidy.

    If no-one else has got the time, I’d be happy to have a go at adapting Andy’s BP.org bbPress theme to match the default theme – but I’ve not themed for bbPress before, so it would feel like a bit of an extra mountain to climb to have to start from the bottom.

    It just seems that with the work Andy’s done already to port BP.org to bbPress, you’re very close to having a bbPress ready BuddyPress default theme – for which I’m sure a lot of people would be very grateful…:-)

    As I say, I’d be happy to lend a hand if it’s not a high priority for anyone else.

    Odd thought I have just had – have you installed Buddypress, or its themes, using symlinks? If you have, copy the directories/files and don’t use a symlink path.

    If you don’t know what a symlink is, then disregard :)

    I just received this error while trying to install Buddypress on a fresh install of WPMU 2.7.1. I was using the “add plugin” feature so I assume that I am getting the latest version of Buddypress (1.0).

    Per the questions above, I installed per directions and made no modifications except to move the bp_themes folder to wp_content as instructed. I opened no Buddypress files.

    So it looks like this problem is alive and well. I’m at a dead halt with Buddypress.

    Regarding my ‘thinking out-loud’ point above about figuring out how to implement a consolidated theme across all buddypress blogs and the main page …

    This morning, as I was clicking on the CNN site, and I noticed they have a bunch of different individual & topical blogs. I wanted to see how they unified the look and feel, so I clicked on several different ones. What they have there is just a simplified layout of their main site … essentially, a subset of the main page layout. So it (finally) occurred to me that what I can do for this is

    1. Figure out template setup basics, enough to …

    2. Put together a basic template that uses the same color, font, and graphical components from the site’s main theme, but is a very basic theme, not one that is buddypress ready. It will look like it is the same theme, but that will be a deliberate coincidence.

    * I can hardcode widget and/or custom code into there as necessary

    * I imagine this part can get tricky, but it does some reasonable to do.

    3. Make this template the default for all new users

    I acknowledge this is probably not such a revelation to many of the WPress initiated … but for me, it took some time and mental crunching to get to this conclusion. From my humble newbie vantage point :), it does seem like it could be a useful consideration if users have their own blogs.

    The plugin DJPaul linked to alters the behavior of WPMU’s registration process which is controlled by wp-signup.php.

    When using BuddyPress, you have a choice to either use WPMU’s registration script or the alternate one found in the home theme–register.php. More information in this thread

    You are correct. Andy has themed the BuddyPress forum theme to look just like the rest of BP.org.

    At this time, he does not plan on releasing this theme. He wants to keep the bp.org brand distinctive. Imagine if many of the new BP installs used this theme. It might confuse people when coming to BP.org. BP.org needs to maintain a unique identity. It is, after all, the place where everyone else comes for guidance.

    Of course, everyone is free to style their own theme.

    If an intentional design decision then it is a poor one!

    This has nothing to do with BuddyPress. It has all to do with the design and styling of the theme you are using. Switch to the default BuddyPress themes (bphome and bpmember) and you will see this problem go away.

    Talk with the person who designed your theme.
