ParticipantSame problem here wp-themes/bpmember
If that is the case, then you have an incorrect directory name. The bpmember theme should be in /wp-contents/bp-themes/, not /wp-themes/.
Also, make sure that you do not have any old BuddyPress themes or old BP theme directories in /wp-content/.

Participantwhen I change the theme to the church theme that I am using on wpmu it does not work!
BuddyPress themes are special cases of WordPress themes. They have additional functions and some unique code that make them work in BP. So, you cannot take any WP theme and substitute it for a BuddyPress theme.
If you wish to use something other than one of the Standard BP themes, then you need to pick an already available custom BP theme, customize a WP theme to make it work in BP, or design your own BP custom theme from scratch. You can search the BP forums for advice on customizing themes to work in BP.

Participantyeah that works, however i noticed that it distorts the FB pic in the BP member theme. It streches it from 50 x 50 to 150 x 150

danielfelice
ParticipantWhy don’t you create widgetized areas within your theme? That is probably easier and you will have more control over the widgets.
Look here for more info on create widget ready themes
https://codex.wordpress.org/Widgetizing_Themes
Or is that the part that you tried and didn’t work?

ParticipantI’m having the same problem, but mine seems to be related only to the “register” page.
http://www.elsegundo.net/register
I can’t let anyone register. What is the difference between /wp-signup.php and /register?
I can’t get either to work. I did a clean install on another test domain into a new database and it won’t let me signup anyone either. I get blank screens back with no errors.

ParticipantUninstalled bbpress per above instructions (thanks btw).
Still getting same errors. Must be some other issue…
Tried deactivating BuddyPress then reactivating… nothing different happened?
Any other clues where I should look?

ParticipantYa, John’s right. That’s the symptoms of just putting bpmember in /wp-content instead of /wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember during an upgrade. You then have to vist BuddyPress > General Settings and say Save.
It’s due to the directory ‘bug’ in wpmu 2.7.1.

KeymasterDo you have a theme named “bpmember” in your wp-contents\bp-themes\ directory?
If so, have you navigated to your BuddyPress settings and activated that theme as your members theme?
May 25, 2009 at 5:59 pm #46046Greg
ParticipantJeff, thanks for the extensive efforts to repro on your side. I have answers to your first two questions:
1. No other plugins
2. Default BuddyPress Home Theme
I will investigate the server logs.

ParticipantRebootnow-
Since I had only one radio button field, which was located in my first field group, I did the following:
- I added a new radio button field to my second field group and tested. No issue.
- Then, thinking it could be an issue if two or more radio button field sets were in the same field group, I added a second radio button field set to the same group. No issue between all three radio button field sets.
- Then I created a new field group and added a fourth radio button field set. No issue. Each change I made showed up and remained properly set, whether just changing a single radio button field, or changing all four radio button fields.
- Finally, thinking maybe this could be an issue only within the first field group, I added a second radio button field to the first field group. I now had 5 radio button field sets. No issue. All five worked as expected. No issues within filed groups or between field groups.
- Since the first radio button field set in the first field group was set to “Required”, I reset it to “Not Required” to see if that would make a difference. No issue.
- I then set both radio button field sets in the first field group to “Required”. No issue.
So, I have tried numerous combinations and cannot recreate your problem.
A few questions:
- Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, try disabling .
- Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? If customized themes, try switching to the default BP themes.
- Are there any errors in your server’s log files?

ParticipantJeff, yes, I hit save changes. I also checked to see that the changes were accepted by looking at my profile in a separate browser window.
After pressing “Save Changes” the default BP theme returns me to the edit page for that part of the profile, and the radio buttons there are set to my global defaults (not the options I just chose). If I browse away to my profile page without saving changes again, the correct (new) options are in place.
I have now tested this on a second (new) BP installation. One thing I found was that it didn’t affect the very first radio button custom field I created in the Base group. I do see the issue for every subsequent custom field I create (in the Base group or in a second field group that I added) though.
Jeff, have you tested this on your install with more than one radio button custom field?

InactiveI don’t know exactly what to look for in header… but (I obviously like the word but here
) noticed when comparing testbp.org’s html source and mine that in header I have different code on line 11:Mine is:
<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://domain.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-blogs/css/widget-blogs.css?ver=2.7.1' type='text/css' media='' />and testbp.org’s is:
<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://testbp.org/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity/css/widget-activity.css?ver=2.7.1' type='text/css' media='' />Meaning that instead of bp-activity I have bp-blogs…
Everything else seems to be similar. Is this a problem and why is my code different from tesbp.org’s?? (I’m using BP’s default theme now, before fixing my own theme.) I have changed nothing in BP’s default theme.

ParticipantSubster-
First, you should not edit the core files–this includes the widget files. Instead, make copies of the widget files that you want to modify, give them a unique name, and then work on those copies. You can then install and activate your new widget in WPMU’s backend like any other widget.
Second, before modifying any widget, you should remove it from any BuddyPress theme column in which it is installed. This is just a wise precaution.
Third, I’d suggest copying back to their original locations, unaltered versions of the widget files that you modified.
Making a backup copy of your DB is always a good idea before any modification that can impact the data. But, as far as what you’ve done with your actual data in you DB, I cannot advise.

Jeff Sayre
ParticipantThese two error messages indicate that you do not have a a complete install of the standard member theme.
You state that you are using the standard BuddyPress themes and it seems like you are able to access the member theme to get to the links to change the avatars, but the files to alow you to do so are missing.
For the change-avatar.php file, look in /wp-contents/bp-themes/bpmember/profile.
For the group-avatar.php file, look in /wp-contents/bp-themes/bpmember/groups/admin.
If you do not see either of the files in those locations, then your installation is flawed. Reinstall the member theme, reselect it in WPMU admin, and try again.

InactiveOK, so the problem might be in the theme?
I have own theme and find out some minor problems there but when using bp 1.0 default theme (BuddyPress Default Member Theme (1.0)), I still have the same problems.
The weirdest problem is leaving the group. When logged in and on the Groups Directory/Groups Listing page, it is no problem to leave a group, but when I try to leave a group on group’s own page (e.g. http://domain.com/groups/testgroup ) by clicking the Leave Group -button, I get problem #3 from my 1st post (…This page (leave a group) doesn’t have a wp-admin-bar and footer at all! Other pages have. I only get messages: “Confirm Leave Group” and “Are you sure you want to leave this group?” but there’s no options “Yes, I’d like to leave this group.” and “No, I’ll stay!”. ….)

Participant@DJPaul I think there must be specific issues with BP themes as I’ve tried all the main WPMU multilingual plugins and not succeeded (though admittedly this is probably at least partly me).
I have found one (TransPosh) that is easy, quick and is the nearest thing I can get. But, unlike changing languages via the dashboard, when using any plugin, it seems to use a different system, often just translating on the fly using google translate, for example. So things like ‘login’ aren’t translated properly – especially when my default language is Catalan (regional language in Spain). Whereas setting it in the admin translates perfectly.
I’m more interested in translating the actual structural items – login/account links, menus, etc than the actual blog.
If any clever WP/BP developer reads this can you shed any light on this? Thanks

ParticipantTo Uninstall bbPress
1. Delete bb-config.php from your forums directory.
2. Log into your database and drop the tables that begin with bb_ (assuming you left bb_ as your forum prefix)
To install it again, simply go to the same page you used to install it before. Run through your installation and your bb-config.php as well as the bb_ tables will be created again.

ParticipantThanks!
Now, I am kind of confused actually.
What I wanted to do was to copy the function over to my bp-custom.php, and then remove the <img src=”” /> tag from the function, so that I could get the avatars by writing the entire code with <img src=”……” /> in the theme I am using.
I did this with the bp_loggedinuser_avatar() function, but it does not seem to be any img-tags in the bp_get_options_avatar() function. Now, does anyone of you know where I can find the img-tag witch Buddypress automatically gets when using the bp_get_options_avatar() function?
Thanks…!
