In reply to: Going full-width
Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantAll depends on the theme, look at the page browser view source or use firebug to see what classes are on the body tag then choose one specific to that page then you’ll do something like .someclass #content (width: auto;} just after the rule that is setting the width or margin you need to remove.
October 31, 2012 at 7:13 pm #144336@mercime
ParticipantIf you wanted to go full width/remove the sidebar, then check out the HTML structure in your theme’s full-width template file if you have one. I can only assume that you would have to change the class=column-left in `
` to something else at the top, then remove “ at the bottom of the file. It just depends on your theme’s markup for full-width page. October 31, 2012 at 6:30 pm #144333Ham Radio

@mercime
ParticipantTo make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress, you need to install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin, then go through Appearance > BP compatibility process.

ParticipantThanks for your help!
However, I did what you said. I disabled all my plugins, and theme, and I still have the same problem.
Any more ideas? Thanks!October 31, 2012 at 5:03 pm #144322In reply to: Need original WordPress Registration page back
David Cavins
KeymasterI think a better bet is to collect that info on the BP registration page and then not display it on the user profile (that way you’ll still be able to use it in other ways). With BP 1.6. you can change the visibility of each xprofile field to friends only, logged-in users, or public (and force that level or allow the user to override your selection). (Visible to admin only is coming in BP 1.7, btw, which would totally fix you up.) At the moment, you can modify your theme template file (themes/yourtheme/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php) to hide some fields like this:
`about line 17:<?php $no_display_fields = array( // Enter the field name of any field that you don't want to appear on the user profile.
‘E-mail’,
‘Name of Field Hide’,
‘Another’
);if ( bp_field_has_data() && !in_array( bp_get_the_profile_field_name(), $no_display_fields ) ) : ?>`
It’s a hack, but it works for me (until BP 1.7).

ParticipantSorry for the late replies – I have been quite busy!
Bebop was created from an academic perspective to aggregate OER content from around the web into BuddyPress.
There is nothing to stop anyone else creating a facebook /any other extension, just send me a pull request on Github and I will check it out! (https://github.com/lncd/bebop). There is also a Wiki on Github explaining the key steps to creating a plugin.
Bebop creates its own user_meta table because the options bebop uses is rather complicated; I decided to simplify this by temporarily using a custom table until such a point when I can switch over to the standard user_meta table. I will only ever do this if i can reliably and accurately remove data though!
As i have mentioned in the blog posts, the funding for Bebop has officially ran out so I cannot spend time from my ‘working day’ adding features. I will work on bebop as and when I can, in my own time, but i will always maintain that ‘paid’ work must come first. (I also do a lot of freelance work, not just around the ‘WP/BP’ theme.) Unless, of course, people want to ‘sponsor’ some particular work.
If you find bugs or have feature requests please add them to Github. This makes it easy for me to see what the priorities should be when I have some spare time to work on Bebop.
Thanks for testing and using bebop; its the first plugin I have made and it is nice to know that people are finding it useful.

Participant@mercime I just tried deactivating all other plugins and reverted to all the default themes with the same outcome. I am not questioning the quality of the plugin whatsoever as I have heard many people using the plugin without issue.. but I am not sure what the issue that I am seeing may be.
Also i noticed on the plugin page that some others were asking about the compatibility with 3.4.2 so I am not sure if maybe someone else may be seeing the same issue that I am.

ParticipantOne addition: it seems, that also the state of privacy is not saved, when i create a new group. Only, when i change the privacy after creation. So when i want to add a private group and not public, it is still public after creation. The problem exists also with Standard Theme of Buddypress…

SpectatorActually @karmatosed has the best solution. Using the selector CSS in a child theme is the easiest way to fix the button overlap. Aside from that the plugin was working great to start with.

ParticipantI believe you need to edit the template file, “forums”->”forum-loop.php” or “groups”->”groups-loop.php” if you are using the default BP theme. Look for the “freshness” function.
October 31, 2012 at 3:25 am #144282Toby Cryns (@themightymo)
ParticipantThis could be a javaScript or theme problem.
Steps to troubleshoot:
1) Deactivate all plugins except for BuddyPress
2) Activate the default BuddyPress themeDoes it work now? If so, then you have a plugin or theme problem.

ParticipantScott, the plugin author of restrict usernames, is a top-notch developer and I’ve used the plugin successfully in my sites. The plugin is compatible with BuddyPress. Could be conflict with another plugin and/or with theme, there are just so many variables. Have you tried deactivating other plugins except BuddyPress to test restrict usernames plugin?

ParticipantI am having the same problem with my button not appearing on my new site I started building last week, HippieNations.com, but, I am not using the BP Menus, or any of the other plugins you have listed. I used BP Compatibility to make a non BuddyPress theme BuddyPress. I think I remember somewhere it asked me if I wanted the button or to hit enter and I chose to hit enter, but, that was the wrong choice I think. I don’t remember where I saw that though and I can’t find it again. I also thought maybe it was some kind of permission error too maybe. I will keep trying to figure it out.

Participant@pataphor open up your theme’s header.php with a text editor, copy all code, paste code in pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URL here. Do the same for your theme’s index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files.

ModeratorThe theme compat is working but the template files are not all there. There most likely will be a few rc’s to work out bugs and get plugin and themes in order.

ParticipantHave you changed the theme template to remove the walled garden hook?
With Your function there should be something like “ in the header.php ….
An alternative way is to load it on a bp hook as in https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-do-i-make-buddypress-1-6-a-private-community/#post-136021 ( Note:
The function can be put into bp-custom.php though that example puts it into a plugin )October 30, 2012 at 12:47 pm #144252Hugo Ashmore
Participanthmm ok this isn’t perhaps a fair example, but illustrates the ease with which I can do what I need in bbPress:
We have a template part ‘content-archive-forum’ do nothing and this template part injects into page.php. I can overload the template part dragging it into the theme modify and still have it inject into page, php – however now I have a different requirement page, php is no longer suitable but I can create a new template in theme root archive-forum.php and use that to call the appropriate template_part ‘content-archive-forum’ /forums/ now finds that template rather than page.php.
As I say though not perhaps best example.

October 30, 2012 at 1:49 am #144235wpmirwin
ParticipantOk.. I finally realized that all of the css for my “template pack” install of BuddyPress is being driven from the bp-template-pack plugin… crap. bp.css file is right there, and it contains everything I was looking to change. I copied this css into my child theme, turned off the template pack css, and everything is going well.
