Memberyep I confirm I retried a fresh install of wordpress with a new db; I only install BP from within the admin – no specific options during the install -I choose the default BP theme and same problem happens.

MemberThere are people that use the Suffusion theme with BuddyPress, so I know it should work, and everything is working and looks great — except for the register page. Which is arguably the most important part.
I don’t think any of the plugins are conflicting with it, because it does work if I just switch the theme without changing anything else.

MemberYes, tried under the circumstances you describe : no plugin installed.fresh WP and BP install.BP default theme.On another note, This is the only bug I have on the complete WP install with about twenty plugins and components running so it has nothing to do with the plugins/themes.
During the install process the forum installation process completes but the admin button never displays “installed” when the install popup opens it does say “installed”.Thank you for answering so far, I hope someone can give me a clue…

Keymaster@edinchez We’ve fixed this for BP 1.6 which should be out in a couple of weeks.
If you cannot wait, open up register.php in your theme and adjust this line:
`if ( bp_has_profile( ‘profile_group_id=1’ ) ) :`
to look like:
`if ( bp_has_profile( ‘user_id=-1&profile_group_id=1’ ) ) :`Please please be sure to revert this change after you upgrade to 1.6; it’s the sort of seemingly-harmless change that could cause some subtly weird behaviour at some point in the future which would take ages to track down

ParticipantThanks . Now I don’t have any problem except the one I said . I think maybe it is because of my rtl theme .

Participantswitch to bp-default theme… does your site display now?
If so, it is almost certainly a problem with your theme. Which one are you using, or is it a custom build?

Jeff
MemberHi,
The error log I posted encompasses the errors that have been generated while I was micking around with reinstalling buddypress and bbpress.
I have both bbPress and Buddypress installed currently, and I also have the Activity Streams component enabled.
However, a ticket from way back three years ago explains what I think the problem is. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/241
If I go to my profile, and post an update on my profile, this gets saved in bp_activity. But anything new topic creation or reply on my bbPress forum, it DOES NOT get saved in that table. So it looks to me that stuff created in the BuddyPress side gets saved in bp_activity, but stuff from the bbPress side do not.
Is there any way so that user activities from bbPress gets saved to this BuddyPress table?
=========
== EDIT ==
=========
I have tried deactivating all plugins apart from bbPress and BuddyPress. Also, switched to the theme that came with BuddyPress. SiteWide Activity Stream is still limited to just BuddyPress activities.Note that I have User Groups and Discussion Forums (within Groups) DISABLED, which is how I do want it, as we want the community as simple and straighforward as possible while still enjoying the awesome features like messaging from BuddyPress
I also imagine that if I were to create Groups in BuddyPress, and then post messages in Forums of that Group, it will get posted to the Activity Stream. But I really do not want Groups.
I understand that this may very well be how the plugin was designed to work, but this is a plea for a little help now

ParticipantHave you enabled the activity stream component in your BuddyPress settings?
The basic step for debugging any problem like this is — disable all your plugins except BuddyPress; switch to the default theme. Does it work now? If not, there is something wrong with your install.
If it does… switch to your theme, test; then add your plugins one by one testing at each stage.
From that, you can determine what’s breaking it — install, theme, or specific plugin
[edit: from your error log, you clearly also have problems with bbPress not being installed]

Member@djpaul – Just the standard, out-of-the-box BuddyPress registration process for now. Couple of additional fields, all added as standard (via BP profile settings).
We are looking into using Gravity Forms for user registration in the future, mainly so that we can hook Twitter (& other social url’s) into extended & custom profile field, and also to make the registration process self-contained (not requiring email activation), but right now, we’re just using out-of-the-box functionality/forms.
FYI – We’re also using the Mingle theme by Parallelus but having raised this issue over on their support forums, I was informed that it’s highly unlikely to be a theme-related issue, which is fair enough really.

ParticipantThe plugin i posted was a guide line, place this somewhere within your theme: http://pastebin.com/JLjMynR0
If the user is logged in, it will show up. It is a link to the users @Mentions

@mercime
ParticipantSo you’re using bp-default theme. If you went through the Installation Wizard after activating BuddyPress, the Register and Activate pages (along with other BP pages) would have been auto-created, and the uri would have been yoursite.com/register if WP/BP are installed in main domain.
If you associate the Register and Activate with pages you’ve previously created e.g. “Join Us” and “Activate Now”, then your url’s would be yoursite.com/join-us/ and yousite.com/activate-now respectively.
When you say the new pages are invisible, do you mean you get a blank white page in browser?
July 19, 2012 at 1:01 am #137568In reply to: How To add ‘Community’ dropdown in a menu
@mercime
ParticipantWP themes which are updated to latest WP versions like Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven plus BuddyPress’ own bp-default theme have custom menu functions you’ll find in Appearance > Menus.
Just create a link named “Community” and add whatever links you want under it.
e.g. for bp-default theme or its child theme https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/how-to-set-up-your-main-site-navigation-using-the-built-in-wordpress-menus/July 18, 2012 at 10:31 pm #137562In reply to: Activate And Register Tabs Not Visible
@mercime
Participant@hornet1968 if you’re using a WP theme, you also need to install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP compatibility process. We have a list of “template-packed” WP theme near the bottom of this page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

ParticipantThis was from a plugin I developed for a site, you should find just about everything you need in there, and if not have enough of an understanding to fill in any ones that aren’t covered: http://pastebin.com/xC1jd4vv

@mercime
Participant@b1gft there are a couple of simple ways to go about deleting “freshness” from group forums
1. Simplest of the rest -> Just add the following at the bottom of your theme’s style.css file
`span.time-since { display: none !important; }`or 2. Copy over https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.6/bp-themes/bp-default/forums/forums-loop.php to your themes /forums folder, open it up and delete line #85
or 3. filter bp_the_topic_time_since_last_post in functions.php

newpress
ParticipantSpecs
1. WordPress latest
2. Buddypress latest
3. Frisco theme
4. Use bbpress 2.0 for group forums
5. Use “GD bbpress Tools” plugin to have a signature. (its sad that bbpress doesnt have such a basic feature)For the second time in my entire life, I had a look at PHP and CSS. I hope I can cope with. Till then which is the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”?

Lacey
Member@mercime I did do that. I mentioned it in my original post. The Register page works just as it is supposed to when the bp-default theme is activated.
I’m trying to find out what about my set up with the Suffusion theme is causing the conflict. It works with the bp-default theme, but I don’t want to use that theme. I’m wondering where do I go from here to get it working with my Suffusion theme.

Participant@lacemastarson basic troubleshooting -> deactivate Suffusion BP Pack, and change to bp-default theme. See if issue is corrected.

Participantusers might jump to the conclusion that they are a part of the site navigation
Ok that’s all you needed to have said in the first place – so the reason I asked skill level was because this is a fairly basic thing to do, but as has been said above you will need some ground level CSS knowledge – I gave you a pointer on how to do that if that wasn’t clear then you perhaps ought to have expressed that rather than taking a cheap shot at me

Further than that it’s difficult to help with we don’t know the theme so can’t give absolute answers only guidence.
In a stylesheet somewhere in your theme you need to add a rule along the lines of .forum-signatures a {color: red;}
but you will need to identify what element is the parent of the anchor for the correct class or id to use replacing my example ‘.forum-signatures’

Participant@newpress — if you want to modify a website theme, at the very least you’ll need some HTML / CSS knowledge. It would be a good idea to book up on those before attempting to modify the look and feel of your site.
