2) did not @import parent theme’s default .css

Participant== when I go activate my child theme in admin I lose my sites header banner, and all the work associated with my menus is broken..? ==
You don’t need to copy over the functions.php of bp-default at all. Seems to me that this is more of a CSS mixed with missing tags issue. How did you add styles to your child theme?
1) @import parent theme’s default.css and then add your styles in your own stylesheet OR
2) did not @import parent theme’s default.css and created stylesheet from scratch?October 5, 2011 at 5:52 pm #122508In reply to: Help with homepage

ParticipantIn your dashboard, go to “Settings > Reading”.
This link should take you straight to that page if you’re already logged in:
http://www.pressstartgamers.com/wp-admin/options-reading.phpThen under “Front page displays” option, select the option that says “a static page” and select the page you want on the front. Maybe “Activity” would be good. Or create a new page in the backend and then come back to the reading settings page and select it.
Nice theme by the way!

Memberwhy does start a new post take me to the community page?
anyway had to jump in here because I can’t start a fresh post..
like the title of this blog states (After activating child theme tags and categories not working correctingly ?)
I followed the instructions for creating a new bp child theme and put the following in my new style.css file:
/*
Theme Name: BuddyPress (my child themes name)
Theme URI: https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/my child themes name
Description: child theme for BuddyPress.
Version: 1.0
Author: my name
Author URI: https://buddypress.org/
Template: bp-default
Tags: buddypress, two-column, grey, dark
*/when I go activate my child theme in admin I lose my sites header banner, and all the work associated with my menus is broken..?
I copied all my previously edited files from the bp default theme to my child theme, but did not move or touch anything associated with the bp default functions.php, should I be doing this even though I do not need to make any edits with this file?
Using bp 1.5 with wp 3.2.1 the bp default template
Many thanks in advance

@mercime
ParticipantMike84, typo in your link? It’s going nowhere. So if you were using Roots Framework, you created a child theme of that framework and installed the BP Template Pack plugin. Which stylesheet is it not loading? I would assume that if you have child theme, you’d either import or enqueue the stylesheet of your parent theme.

Member@mercime I have managed to get past the white screen. It was due to my template, Roots Framework, use get_template_directory(). The template directory would now be bp-default. I changed this to get_stylesheet_directory() and my template is loading but its not loading my css. Any ideas there? The site can be viewed at http://www.cozanigera.org/web if that helps at all.

@mercime
ParticipantWhen you turn on debug, consider installing Theme Check plugin, Debogger plugin and Log Deprecated Notices plugin. Very helpful and used by WP theme reviewers.

ParticipantFYI – The theme is now available in the WordPress Theme Directory. This thread was quite long, so I’ve started a new one and maybe this thread can be closed now.

MemberYes, this is just a Buddypress 1.5 site, the theme is updated to 1.5 and there are no other plugins whatsoever. You can view the site at http://lesue.com/3gasbags/ . Thanks for your prompt response.

ModeratorIs this happening without any plugins aside from BuddyPress? Assuming (which I think it is) the theme is updated to BuddyPress 1.5 and assuming you mean it is at the bottom vertical – is that right? A link really would help clarify where it is vertical though. It sounds to me like a scripting or CSS issue, again if you could provide a link that would help narrow the field.

ParticipantWhite screens are php errors. Check your error logs, they tell you exactly what is wrong. or turn on debug.

MemberI’m having the same issue. my theme is updated to 1.5, i deactivated it and activated the default theme, and i deactivated everything save buddypress and akismet. also just reuploaded 1.5 fresh. no activity feed…
October 4, 2011 at 11:41 am #122372Tammie Lister
ModeratorAre you using a theme updated to 1.5? I ask this as I’m thinking something is up with the scripting you’re linking to and this could be the issue.
A good basic test would be to see if you get the same issue using the default theme – that would tell us theme or plugin. Alternatively if you’ve not updated theme files that could be it.

Participant@Mike84 no worries. Which child theme are you using?
There still might be a solution although I haven’t seen a child theme of BP 1.2 cause white screen in front and backend yet.October 3, 2011 at 6:27 pm #122120In reply to: Frisco Child Theme

Participant@KylieSocial I’d recommend creating a `custom.css` file and then using a basic CSS image replacement technique. http://css-tricks.com/630-css-image-replacement/

ParticipantGood stuff, @nosoura
Glad you like it.
The theme should not break any jquery. It looks like you’re using a boatload of plugins – I’m guessing one of those could be interfering.
Try deactivating plugins one by one to troubleshoot. Or try reverting to bp-default temporarily.
I will be posting another entry about this, but the theme was just published in the WordPress Theme directory – https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/frisco-for-buddypress
I’ve already fixed a few bugs since that initial version was uploaded. The newest version is currently under review and should be available soon. See https://github.com/davidtcarson/frisco or https://themes.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5497 for the latest.

MemberI love the theme I’m using it made some modifications:
– Created a archive.php and index.php to my liking with the same look as the theme
– Added a floating sharebar to the posts
– Modified the submenus to make them cleanerand a few others! thank y lot I love it —> have a look http://www.smartideabox.com
I have a question is the theme breaking some jquery because bp-labs and rate forum posts don’t seems to be working.
cheers

KeymasterWe’re aware of the IE7 problem with the nav header. It will be fixed in BP 1.5.1. We don’t support IE6, so here’s hoping the IE7 fix does that, too
